Zuria
Maya tried to coax me into sitting on the chair beside the window, but I shook my head and sank back down onto the floor beside the twins. My fingers tangled in their soft curls, one hand resting on each of their backs. I couldn't be apart from them. Not right now. Not even for a second.
"I'm fine here," I said hoarsely.
"You need rest, Zuria," Maya said gently, but I didn't budge.
I felt Elio's eyes on me. That unnerving stillness, as if he were watching not just my face, but everything beneath it—my thoughts, my soul.
"I don't have time for emotional displays," Elio said loudly. "If you cared so much about your kids, they wouldn't have gone missing in the first place."
The words pierced through me like shards of ice. My spine stiffened, and my lips parted in disbelief.
Danny stepped forward before I could respond. "You don't know what happened. You don't get to stand there and judge her."
Elio didn't even glance at him.
