Grim awoke to sunlight streaming through partially drawn curtains. For a moment, he didn't recognize his surroundings.
His body felt heavy, muscles aching from exertion and mana depletion. Echo lay on a stand beside his bed.
Voices drifted from beyond his door. He pushed himself to a sitting position just as the door opened.
Chen Xing entered, followed by Master Yongrun. Behind them came Lord Orvannis, accompanied by two guards. Lady Mei was there as well, with her own security detail.
"The triumphant warrior awakens," Chen Xing said with a slight smile. "How do you feel?"
"Like shit," Grim replied dryly. "What time is it?"
"Nearly noon," Yongrun answered. "You've been unconscious since yesterday's match."
Lord Orvannis stepped forward. "A remarkable victory, Lord Ambrose. The capital speaks of little else."
Grim nodded in acknowledgment, then gestured to Sera. "Sera, refreshments for our guests."
