Chapter 34 - Encounter

The forest in the Demon Realm is far more dangerous than the one in the Human Realm. I can take down a beast from the Human Realm with a single move, but the demonic beasts here are so tough and thick-skinned that I can't even scratch them. I'm like a newbie again, forced to survive cautiously in this forest, avoiding trouble whenever possible. Even the plants here might attack you. I've been here for two days, starving and exhausted. The rations I brought were lost in a fight, so now I need to find something to eat. As I walk, I spot a stream ahead—maybe I can drink from it or catch some fish. I reach the stream, and the water looks fairly clean, with fish shadows darting through it occasionally. This is my chance. I use magic to create a fishing net, but since it's magically conjured, it won't last long. I need to catch fish before it vanishes. I cast the net into the stream and start fishing. Soon enough, fish swim into it. I quickly pull up the net and catch two fish. They're dark, with gray-blue patterns, unlike any fish from the Human Realm. Whatever, I'll give them a try. I use fire magic to spark a flame and start a fire. After cleaning the fish, I skewer them on bamboo sticks and roast them over the flames. I also conjure a kettle with magic, fetch some stream water, and boil it. It's rare to find clean water in the Demon Realm. After a while, the fish are almost done. I carefully taste a small piece to check for poison. After waiting a bit with no ill effects, I confirm they're safe and dig in. The fish taste decent, not too different from those in the Human Realm. After enjoying this rare dinner, I start thinking about my next move. I don't know where I am, have no idea how to get to the Demon King's castle, and can't find my teammates. I wonder how they're doing. Just then, probably drawn by the smell, a demonic beast approaches me. It looks a bit like a triceratops but with only two horns. "Ugh, do I have to fight?" I summon a sword, ready to face it. The fire stands between us. I grab the uneaten roasted fish and toss it to the beast. It looks at the fish and starts eating. Seizing the chance, I bolt. After running far enough to feel safe, I stop to catch my breath. Thank goodness I thought fast and escaped. But before I can fully recover, a screech comes from the trees above. I look up to see a giant bird glaring at me. Great, one problem after another. It swoops down to attack, and I quickly hit it with lightning magic. The effect is perfect—it's stunned. After that, I keep moving forward. This forest doesn't give you a moment's peace. I reach a small hill, which seems relatively safe. "I'll spend the night here," I think."The night is as beautiful as ever. Would you like to admire it with me?" A seductive voice comes from a tall tree nearby. Startled, I look up and see a woman with long black hair, dressed in a black dress, gazing at the night sky while speaking to me. Her beauty is striking, noble, the kind you'd struggle to find even back on Earth. Why would someone like her suddenly appear in this terrifying forest? Is this a trap or an illusion? I grow wary, half-expecting her to turn into a monster and attack. "Hey, are you listening? How about it?" she says again. "Alright, fine," I reply. We gaze at the moonlight together—she's up in the tree, I'm below. I don't know what's going on, but for now, I'll go along with it.After a long while, she says, "Thanks for watching the moon with me. Now, please die." She leaps down from the tree, raising her hand to attack. "(Wow, that escalated fast! I knew it was too good to be true!)" I think as I turn and run. A black-purple beam shoots toward me. I dodge by veering to the side, and the beam obliterates where I was standing. Holy crap, this woman is insanely strong! I dive into the jungle, using the bushes as cover to escape. I run desperately, ignoring the thorns scratching my body. After what feels like forever, I think I've lost her and stop to catch my breath. Suddenly, she appears right in front of me. "Tired of running? Want to rest?" "Ah!" I yelp, startled, and take off again. I run until I physically can't anymore and have to stop, gasping for air. "Hi," she says, appearing behind me with a smile. This woman is like a ghost—I can't shake her! Looks like my time's up. Still panting, I say, "I don't hit women. If you want to kill me, go ahead. But can I move somewhere else? I don't want the flowers behind me to get caught up in this." Sorry, Bona, I guess I can't keep our promise, I think as I step away, ready to face my fate. Behind me is a beautiful black rose, blooming alone in this forest. The woman glances at the rose, and her raised hand slowly lowers. "There are some cute humans in the Human Realm, huh," she says before vanishing. Wait, is she letting me go? Did I do something? I scratch my head, utterly confused.
