Chapter 7 "The Ghostfight"

The air was heavy, a deafening silence drifting through the air. A foul stench filled the atmosphere, thick and suffocating. No one made a move—just staring at the malevolent figure spawning to existence.

It twisted. Its limbs Turning in unnatural ways, like it had no bones to be broken. It stood tall,—almost 9 feet high, and hunching over like a man crushed with grief. Arms dangling on the floor. Its long hair covering half of its ominous face—only showing a large mouth filled with dagger-like teeth.

Its wrinkly skin was corpse-pale. Swollen spots grew on its back, looking like measles and glowing a bright neon green.

Adam stood there—frozen. Gazing into its hollow eyes, too frightened to even blink.

It lunged foward,a crooked hand reaching for Adam—

BOOM!

A blast of blue energy slammed into its wrist, exploding its hand on impact. The shockwave hurled Adam backwards, stumbling over to the floor

It shrieked—a wet, grating sound—Its rage boiling as it turned to the attacker

''Thats not your food your filthy bastard'' John barked, holding what looked like a high-tech assault rifle—a trail of smoke escaping from its barrel

Ray took out his baton—now beaming with energy—droping to a low fighting stance

''Cover me'' He said, before launching himself toward the spirit.

The ghost lunged at the agents — violent,

fast, screeching. It swung its long arms in a claw shape, aiming for Ray's head. He ducked low, slided underneath its swinging arm and countered—delivering a devastating strike to the knee

A jolt of pain shot through its body like static. It staggered, trying to retaliate—

BLAM!

Another blast exploded in its face, sending it tumbling to the floor.

Ray wasted no time. He dashed forward. Knee to the jaw. Elbow to the face. Fists and baton rained down from all directions.

Adam — crouched low behind a pile of rubble — watched the chaos unfold in front of him. His body trembled, a bead of sweat slipping down his cheek.

The sharp smell of scorched concrete burned his nostrils. Dust clogged his throat, making it hard to breathe.

He stared, wide-eyed, as the agents battled the spirit — a real fight, unfolding right before him.

The same agents who, on any other day, would be hunting him instead.

The spirit shrieked, this time swiping both its arms in desperation—

BOOM!

Another blast exploded through its chest, hurling it backwards through the wall

''pff,too easy''John scoffed,lowering his rifle

''Well,it was only a level three spirit, what did you expect'' Ray replied, patting off some dust from his shoulder

He glanced at his watch and grimaced''Were late, the boss won't be happy about that. Lets hurry up and get the boy''

Fear crept into Adam's chest. He had a chance to escape when the agents were distracted—but he blew it.

He slowly peeked over the rubble to check if the agents had spotted him

''wait...where's the one with the gun—?''

WHAM!

Pain exploded in his head, like his skull had been smashed to peaces. He collapsed instantly,a trail of blood sliding down his forehead

John stood above him, rifle still raised, his expression cold and empty

[-15]

[HP—85/100]

Adam groaned as he struggled to hold onto consciousness. He dragged himself, using every ounce of energy he had left to try and escape. Every inch was agony.

''gah...he's...stronger than i thought'' Adam croaked, pain lancing through his ribs with every breath

John walked up to the boy, delivering a devastating kick to Adam's stomach.

Adam folded inward, the air just got knocked out of him

[-8]

The system popped up again, showing his HP slowly depleting

''Hey,relax'' Ray said, walking up to John '' We're not supposed to kill the boy, remember''

''Screw it!''John barked'' This brat has caused us enough trouble today. First he steals the prototype and now we barly manage to retrieve it if it were'nt for his own stupidity''

Adam coughed up blood. His insides felt crushed, like someone stuffed broken glass in his insides

He could barely groan

Adam hunched near some rubble, struggling to breath. His vision was slowly fading— life flashing before his eyest.

Lifting his head up,the agents stood tall before him, like two predators about to finish off their prey

Out of desperation,Adam grabbed a small rock nearby and hurled it at John's face. John easily grabbed the rock mid-air,and crumbled it with his bare hand—his expresion empty

''End of the line...Ghostboy''He scoffed

The mission was a success. Although they didnt manage to retrieve the prototype itself, their boss would be pleased to know that it has successfully bonded with a host.

''.....''

The air was wet and silent. The lights started to flicker wildly. The walls pulsed, like they were alive

[WARNING! Hostile ghost detected]

[Reading energy signature—Error!]

John's pocket scanner buzzed violently, sizzling with stray sparks, before finally shorting out in a puff of smoke.

"What the hell...?" John muttered.

A massive shadow fell over them.It was like a scene straight out of a horror movie.

Slowly, they turned.

From the rubble, the spirit rose again — larger now, its hair upright, its hollow eyes blazing red.

It roared with great intensity—voice echoing with grief and sorrow—the air nearly hurling the agents backedward they had to cover their faces and keep maintaining their balance

''Gah, back for round two already''Ray mocked, snapping his baton and taking a fighting stance''Take the boy,I'll destract it''

John nodded, picking Adam and putting over his shoulders

''Let...go of me''Adam rasped,too weak to resist

Ray launched himself into the fray, preparing to strike at the ghost's knee

Ray charged the spirit again, aiming low — targeting its knees.

The spirit leapt sideways, dodging with unnatural speed, then countered — a claw swipe gleaming in the flickering light.

Ray blocked it — barely.

The force still cracked the ground beneath him.

The ghost roared,a deadly howl—deafening. Its strength was slowly rising from within—and Ray could feel it. He strughled to hold on,the crater beneath him getting larger

With a mighty shove, the spirit smashed Ray away, dust and debris exploding everywhere.

Ray stumbled, panting heavily, but didn't retreat. He rushed forward — targeting its head this time.

CRACK!

A devastating blow rattled the ghost's skull.

It staggered, roaring in pain — but it wasn't done.It lashed out — claws tearing across Ray's chest — and hurled him across the floor.

"Ray!" John barked, alarmed.

"I'll end this!" John growled, dropping Adam roughly to the ground. He raised his rifle, energy charging at the barrel.

"Eat this, you bastard!"

The rifle fired — a piercing blast of energy that tore through the ghost's shoulder, ripping its arm clean off.

The spirit shrieked, stumbling.

It scooped rubble one-handed and hurled it wildly.

John dived aside. But he wasn't so lucky, a rock smashed against his ribs, knocking him to one knee. He forced himself up—barely—only for a massive hand to slam him into the wall.

The concrete shattered. Blood dripped down Ray's face. His vision blurred, his body screaming in pain.

The ghost stood triumphant, breathing heavily. Its hollow gaze drifted toward Adam — still lying helpless on the ground.

Their eyes locked. Adam's heart seized. And it was at this moment that he knew,he f*cked up

"Crap."
