Chapter 4 - The Storm Is Coming

Author's Note:

Since I last posted a new chapter for this story, I have not only reached Sumero, but I have also started and finished Chapter III.

Zhongli is my favorite Archon so far, but Nahida is among the cutest and most adorable beings in all of Teyvat.

Speaking of the Harbingers, The Doctor is my favorite of their group, I love the mad scientists who wear masks and do everything to promote their experiments.

My next stop is Fontaine, by a strange coincidence, after finishing Chapter III, I got Furina.

Chapter 4: The Storm Is Coming

Plot: The Traveler, Paimon and Amber have arrived in Mondstadt. Amber decides to give her new acquaintances a little tour of the city and give them a little welcome gift. When everything seemed to be going well, the storm arrived.

XXX

POV Narrator

Mondstadt also known as Mondstadt City and Crown of the North, is a city located in the western part of Starfell Valley on a large island in Cider Lake.

Mondstadt features cobbled streets and several windmills surrounded by a large stone castle wall at the lower eastern end.

A statue of Archon Anemo watches over the city, with the Cathedral of Favonius in the background.

Simply put, Mondstadt is a beautiful city, too bad it is threatened by a mythical beast driven mad by grief.

At least one potential savior has just crossed the threshold of the city of Mondstadt.

XXX

The Traveler, Paimon and Amber, the three of them entered the city, the first two passed the guards' check without any problems.

Amber's presence made it easier for the Traveler and Paimon to enter the city, without having to answer questions or present documents or entry permits.

Amber steps in front of the two travelers, wanting to give them both a good first impression of her city.

"Travelers under the protection of the Knights of Favonius, let me officially introduce the city of wind, dandelions, and freedom, welcome to Mondstadt!" Amber declares in a happy voice, acting like a tour guide.

"I hate to repeat myself, but we don't need your protection." Bruce said, not needing a knight to defend him.

Amber pretended not to hear the Traveler's comment, having quickly realized that he is one of those proud people who do not easily accept help from others.

"Finally we won't have to camp out in the open anymore!" Paimon exclaims enthusiastically.

The little fairy is looking at the different inns in Mondstadt, as if it were the promised land or something.

"Little Fairy, if you don't like sleeping in my tent anymore. Next time I put up a tent I'll let you stay alone in the bushes." Bruce said in a stoic voice, obviously he's joking, but it's hard to tell because of his stoicism.

"Paimon apologizes! Paimon loves camping with BB! Paimon doesn't want to be alone and become wild animal food!" Said the little fairy clinging to her traveling companion.

'This reminds me of when Gwenivar was a little girl, she was always clinging to me. Clingy like her mother.' Bruce thinks nostalgically, remembering events that happened decades ago.

"You're lucky I've spent a good portion of my life dealing with clingy women and attention-seeking little girls." Bruce comments, as he pats Paimon's head.

Amber carefully observes how the stoic Traveler behaves affectionately with the white fairy.

"You act like a brother-sister duo or a father-daughter duo or a stage magician and his mascot." Amber said, having no idea that the Traveler might be her grandfather in terms of age, despite his youthful appearance.

Amber's words had an effect on the two travelers.

"Paimon is not BB's little mascot." Paimon said, floating towards Amber, ceasing to cling to his traveling companion.

The little fairy can be quite defensive when called certain names.

"I have inherited many good and bad traits from my owl mother, unfortunately the problem of adopting strays is not one of them." Bruce comments, walking straight towards the main square of Mondstadt, ignoring Paimon's small outburst.

The Planeswalker is not entirely sincere in his words, Bruce is not Eda who has practically adopted almost all of her children, but Bruce has done his share of adoption in his life.

Bruce walks forward towards the main square, moving his gaze left and right, noticing several shops.

Paimon chases after his traveling companion, but maintains an adorable pout.

"Little Fairy, do not argue with Outrider for the Knights of Favonius, I want to see the city of Mondstadt before I am forced to leave." Bruce said in a calm voice, noticing Paimon's expression.

The Traveler wants to prevent the little fairy from turning the Bunny Girl into his enemy, something rather unlikely from Bruce's perspective on Amber.

Paimon flies back to Bruce, precisely above his right shoulder, while Amber walks to Bruce's left.

"Why would you have to leave? Mondstadt welcomes travelers with open arms." Amber asks, partly curious and partly suspicious.

In this world to be a traveler and live long, you need to know how to fend for yourself or have a good supply with you.

Amber isn't surprised to meet a Traveler who can fight, but a Traveler dressed in strange clothes, extremely fast, wielding a flashy staff, and accompanied by a flying mascot... is out of the ordinary.

"Let's just say that in my previous travels I ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Trouble finds me easily." Bruce said, stopping at the entrance to the plaza.

The Traveler notices an advertising fountain in the center, a small restaurant on the left, and a small "alchemy" shop on the right.

"And I think it's happened again, just look at the main street and you can tell Mondstadt is not having a prosperous time." Bruce said, seeing almost no one in the square.

The few people who are out in the open have a tense, fearful look, as if disaster were about to fall from the sky at any moment.

"Amber, why don't the people in the city seem very cheerful?" Paimon asks, surprised that in such a beautiful city the people are so gloomy.

"Maybe because there's a flying dragon threatening their way of life." Bruce suggests the most obvious and simple explanation of all.

"The Traveler is right. Stormterror has been making everyone uncomfortable lately. But everything will be fine as long as Jean is with us!" Amber said, admitting that there are problems, but also hope.

"Jean?" Paimon asks, he doesn't know this person Amber is talking about.

'Jean, this name brings good luck, will it be like Jeanne d'Arc or Jaune Arc or Jean Foster or John Watson?' Bruce thinks, putting a hand on his chin.

The Planeswalker believes that the name Jean and its variations are names of good luck.

"Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius — Jean, Defender of Mondstadt." Amber declares Jean's role and title, her voice full of admiration and sincere confidence.

"This Jean must be an extraordinary person, only those good at leadership can inspire such respect and trust in their followers." Bruce said, adding the word charisma and possible Jeanne d'Arc of Mondstadt to Jean's blank canvas?

"You're right again Traveler, you sure are a smart person. Jean she is fantastic, with her on our side, even the ferocious Stormterror will surely be no match for us." Amber said, having unshakable faith in the woman who holds the position of Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius.

'I don't know if this Jean is as good as Amber thinks or if she's comparable to Jeanne d'Arc. But she's definitely a woman I need to meet, meeting one of the leaders of Mondstadt will help. Maybe she might know where I can find Barbatos.' Bruce thinks, mentally adding meeting Jean to his to-do list.

"Would it be possible to meet Jean in person? I would like to have a word with her. Maybe we could help each other, it may not seem like it but I have some experience when it comes to cities in danger and threatening monsters." Bruce said, hoping that by promising help against the dragon he could avoid the typical bureaucracy that surrounds the meeting of an important figure.

'I don't know how useful the Traveler will be against Stormterror, but from what I've seen he's fast and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Plus, I promised to help him.' Amber thinks, seeing no harm in taking the Traveler to Jean.

"Before I take you to the Knights of Favonius headquarters, I have a gift for you, Traveler. It's a reward for helping me clear out that hilichurl camp." Amber said, using the Traveler's name.

"He-Hey! Why doesn't Paimon get a reward?" the little fairy asks out loud, feeling left out.

"Because you didn't participate in the fight against the parasites, I did most of the work. You showed up at the end of the fight to collect the glowing things from that camp." Bruce answers Paimon's question without holding his tongue.

"Paimon was helpful, Paimon collected the hilichurl's Mora." The little fairy said in an angry voice, turning to the Traveler.

"You took the money, that's a reward in itself, what else do you want, adorable little fairy?" Bruce asks, wanting to see how Paimon will respond.

"More Mora or food." Paimon declares, having only two great loves in life, money and food.

"You are a fairy with simple tastes." Bruce comments, slightly surprised at what Paimon thinks would be the ideal reward.

"Simplicity is a virtue in itself." Paimon replies, trying to sound like an intelligent and wise fairy.

"You two are fun to watch." Amber comments, unable to help but smile at the sight of this little scene.

"Anyway, to answer Paimon's question, I didn't get you any reward because it won't do you any good, but it will be useful to the Traveler." Amber said, having a simple reward in mind that won't work for Paimon.

Paimon lowers her gaze and drops half a meter, a sign that she is sad about not receiving anything at all.

"But because you entertained me on the way back and beyond, I offer you two a traditional Mondstadt delicacy: Sticky Honey Roast." Amber said, not wanting to see the little fairy sad.

From Amber's perspective, offering a meal is no big deal, it would be like a little extra thank you for the help and good company.

"Sticky Honey Roast!" Paimon exclaims joyfully, his eyes shining and his stomach growling.

"You made a bad move, Outrider, if you feed the Little Fairy, she will chase you to the ends of the earth, demanding more food." Bruce said in a warning tone.

Paimon takes flight and stands in front of his traveling companion.

"Paimon is not a parasite, Paimon chases you for free food, even though he enjoys cooking, Paimon chases you because we are best friends." Paimon said in a serious voice, sounding like a child criticizing her brother/father.

Bruce doesn't respond to Paimon's words, instead he takes out a set of five different flavored lollipops from his pocket.

"What are they?" Paimon asks, looking hungrily at the food in the Traveler's hand.

"Emergency lollipops with different flavors, take one and be good until lunch, I don't want to see you start bothering anyone for food." Bruce said, bringing the sweets closer to the little fairy.

"Paimon accepts the deal." Paimon declares, taking a lollipop with a yellow wrapping, opening it and putting it in his mouth.

'I'm lucky I come from a family where the sweet tooth is hereditary, I have a huge stash of emergency sweets in every coat and bag of mine.' Bruce thinks, having literally everything in his coat pockets.

Bruce having four more sweets in his hands, decides to pass a lollipop in a red package to Amber because she is dressed in red, making a nice gesture.

"Thanks, but that wasn't necessary." Amber said with a faint blush, taking the lollipop and putting it in her pockets for later.

"Now that you girls have received a little snack, where are we going?" Bruce asks, not knowing where this Jean is or where Amber wants to give me her reward.

"Traveler, Paimon, you two come with me, we're heading for the high ground of the city." Amber said, leading the way again.

XXX

Within minutes, the trio is climbing up some long stairs, though Paimon is cheating, thanks to his floating fairy powers.

"This used to be a busy street. But with the recent Stormterror attacks, the usual crowds have disappeared." Amber said in a slightly sad voice.

"It's pretty obvious, disaster-stricken areas are always affected not only morally, but also economically. No businessman wants to invest in a place that can be destroyed in a day or two," Bruce said, having some experience when it comes to economics and the aftermath of a disaster.

"Aside from the local tavern by the city walls over there. They haven't been touched. If anything, their business is doing better than ever." Amber said, trying to look on the bright side.

"This is worse, people instead of using the little money they have left to buy basic necessities or do something useful, drown their sorrows in alcohol." Bruce said with a voice full of contempt.

"That's one way to look at it," Amber said, knowing the Traveler wasn't entirely wrong.

"BB, do you by any chance not like alcohol?" Paimon asks, noticing the contempt in his traveling companion's speech.

"I am a teetotaler, that is, a person who does not consume wine or other alcoholic beverages. I do not drink even on special occasions, such as weddings, funerals, baptisms." Bruce said, expressing his belief.

"I find that ironic. Mondstadt is famous for its wine production and exports, many tourists come here to drink freshly made wines. But you are a traveler who doesn't want to drink anything." Amber said, looking for joy where she can.

The group arrived at their destination, in the square in front of the Favonius Cathedral.

In the centre of the square is a large statue depicting the Archon Anemo, Barbatos, with a hood, two wings and cupped hands.

The Traveler looks up at the statue, noting the strong resemblance between the boy dressed in green and the depiction of Barbatos.

'Perhaps I won't need the help of the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius to find Barbatos.' Bruce thinks, continuing to observe the statue of Barbatos.

"I didn't make you a follower of Lord Barbatos." Amber comments, seeing that Bruce is staring intently at the statue of the Archon of Anemo.

Bruce snaps his gaze to Amber.

"I am no follower of anyone, be it human or god, I only obey myself." Bruce said in a serious voice, banging his walking stick against the ground, not liking being considered anyone's follower.

"You understand, you are an independent and free person, so why are you looking so intently at the statue of Lord Barbatos?" Amber asks, curious about what the Traveler wants to do.

At that moment Paimon finished sucking the lollipop.

"BB wants to meet Barbatos and the other Archons, that's one of the goals of his journey, besides finding his sister." Paimon said, no longer having any food to keep her mouth busy.

"That means you were serious when you said you wanted to interrogate the Seven Archons to find your sister." Amber said, her eyes widening.

"My goals are my obligations, so are my secrets. I have no reason or obligation to spill my thoughts to you, Outrider of the Knights of Favonius." Bruce said, using complicated words to say: I do not wish to speak of this matter.

"I will respect your privacy, we just met, it's already something that she told me about your sister." Amber said, withdrawing, not wanting to make any missteps.

The Outrider of the Knights of Favonius signals the two travelers to follow her near the edge of the square, where the entire city of Mondstadt can be seen.

"Mondstadt is beautiful." Paimon said, forgetting about the Mora and the Food because of this beautiful landscape.

'Mondstadt has its charm, but it is too small and primitive for my taste. However, the architecture of some of the buildings is worth remembering.' Bruce thinks with a critical mind.

Amber stood in front of the Traveler and Paimon with her hand near her Vision Pyro.

"So, the gift I want to give you is a wind glider!" Amber exclaims with joy, pulling out a glider.

Not many know, but the Vision doesn't just grant elemental powers, it grants its user a small "inventory" just enough to hold a main weapon and a few items.

Bruce keeps his stoic face emotionless, while Paimon watches the glider with interest.

"The Outriders use them to ride the wind, and the people of Mondstadt love to use them too. I brought it here to give to you, so you can experience it right away!" Amber declares happily, passing the glider into the Traveler's hands.

"Oh, you really are excited about these gliders, huh!" Paimon said, noticing Amber's energy.

"Well, that's because the wind is the heart and soul of Mondstadt! Well, enough chit-chat then! Let's get moving!" Amber said, wanting to see the Traveler take its first flight.

Bruce remained silent, holding the two-winged glider in his hands.

The Traveler does not seem to share Amber and Paimon's enthusiasm, which has been noted.

"Don't be afraid, a glider is easy to use, but you still have to follow my instructions." Amber said, believing that Bruce is a little afraid of flying.

Amber doesn't know how wrong she is right now.

"Don't mistake my lack of emotion for fear or anxiety." Bruce replies, taking no pleasure in being mistaken for a coward or anything like that.

"Do you happen to not like the glider, I admit it's not the prettiest glider of all, but it is well made." Amber asks, changing her approach.

"Looks are not a problem, I appreciate the gesture and that you want to make me feel good by showing me the magic of wind and gliders. But it's impractical." Bruce states, stating the facts as they are.

"Why would that be impractical? I've seen hundreds of people use the glider for numerous things." Amber asks, not seeing the problem.

"I am too heavy. The Glider will not be able to support my weight." Said the Traveler, confident in his words.

"Paimon is confused. BB is thin and slim like a girl, how could he be too heavy for the glider?" The little fairy asks, as she looks at the build of her traveling companion.

If someone looks at the Traveler, they would say that he is an effeminate, skinny boy who should eat more.

"Long story, long story short I'm heavy-boned." Bruce said, not wanting to tell Paimon one of his old adventures.

This story involves a murder in Canada, the famous X-23 girl, Adamantium, and secret laboratories in the Canadian mountains and Mexican desert.

"Paimon is getting tired of hearing the phrase: it's a long story. But Paimon knows it's the truth." Said the little fairy, in the two months they spent together, she has heard some of the Traveler's long stories.

One of them was divided into four parts, taking up four evenings to be told, and it talked about art smuggling operations, mafia wars, corrupt politicians and a pop star.

"If you don't want to fly, you don't have to make excuses, I'm not forcing you to do it." Amber said, crossing her arms, slightly offended.

Bunny Girl thinks the Traveler is making excuses for not having to fly the glider.

"I'll prove to you that I'm not a liar. I'll jump and you'll see that I'll fall like a stone thrown out of a window." Bruce said, not wanting to be known in Mondstadt as a coward or a liar.

"If you listen to my instructions, nothing bad will happen." Amber said with a small smile, believing she was right.

XXX

After some explanation from Amber, the Traveler launched himself off the edge of the square with the glider on top of him.

For the first five seconds, Amber smiles as she watches the Traveler's glider glide through the air.

Then, in the sixth century, the glider's wings fold into a U-shape and Bruce falls like a boulder.

"BB!" Paimon shouts, seeing his friend plummet toward the stone sidewalk.

"Paimon will save you!" the little fairy shouts, flying towards her friend with all her power.

"Traveler!" Amber shouts, wanting to fly to help the traveler, but she has just given away her glider.

The Planeswalker is not surprised by what is happening to them, he has foreseen everything.

When the glider's wings failed, Bruce raised his walking stick toward the sky and pressed buttons on the handle, activating internal mechanisms.

In an instant the end of the stick lengthens and then silver threads sprout, along with black slime, forming a huge umbrella.

The Traveler went from falling like a stone to a slow, Mary Poppins-style fall.

When all this happened, Paimon had just reached the Traveler.

"Little Fairy, do you think I would jump from such a height knowing that the glider would fail without having any other means of ensuring a safe landing?" Bruce asks, as he "falls" toward the main street of Mondstadt.

"Paimon is a little angry that you didn't give her advance notice of what you wanted to do. But Paimon is also curious about what else your staff can do." The little fairy said, as she flew along with her traveling companion.

XXX

The Traveler landed safely, keeping his staff in the shape of a large umbrella.

Amber didn't take long to catch up with him, having run through a bunch of stairs and streets.

"Now you think I'm too heavy for your glider?" Bruce asks, standing near the fountain.

"Yes, I believe you, you gave me a real scare." Amber said, having momentarily imagined having to help a Traveler with broken legs or worse.

"Paimon was surprised too." Paimon said, standing in the shade under the Traveler's umbrella which is large enough to cover 3 large people or 5 small people.

The little fairy is holding Bruce's "broken" glider in her hands.

"Maybe I should have gotten you a sturdier glider, maybe one designed for big, strong men," Amber said, having miscalculated.

"Don't worry, when I have time, I'll make some modifications to the glider, as you can see I'm quite the craftsman." Bruce said, pressing some buttons and returning the stick to its default shape.

"You certainly are a one-of-a-kind traveler." Amber said, having a strong feeling that she will never meet anyone like Belmont again.

"I've been called better and worse things." Bruce comments in a stoic voice, then… stiffens.

"The Dragon is coming back!" Bruce exclaims, managing to sense Stormterror's approach.

"Amber, don't ask questions, but you have to get the people to safety, now!" The Traveler calls out in an authoritative voice.

Before Amber could even blink, the sky darkens.

"Too late, my detection range is too short and the dragon is moving too fast." Bruce comments in a calm voice, watching as Stormterror approaches.

The dragon that has terrorized the area for months has finally set its sights on the city of Mondstadt.

"Don't just stand there and stare at the disaster, you have a role, you are an Outrider of the Knights of Favonius, you have to go and save the civilians." Bruce declares, placing a hand on Amber's shoulder and looking into her eyes.

"What will you do?" Amber asks, keeping her nerves steady with her training and experience.

"Everyone has their own role as a player." Bruce replies cryptically with a small smile on his face.

"Don't do anything crazy, once this attack is over I have to get you and Paimon to eat!" Amber exclaims, before running to help the defenseless find shelter.

XXX

Despite the darkened sky, the mythical beast flying around the city, the strong wind and the mass panic, the Traveler remains calm and walks towards the statue of Barbatos.

"Paimon, you don't have to stay near me. If you want, you can go with Amber and take cover with the others." Bruce said in a stoic voice.

The Planeswalker has never forced anyone to follow him, and he doesn't want to do that now, especially with the little fairy.

"Paimon will not leave you alone, you said that everyone has their role, mine is to stay close to you." Said the little fairy, determined to stay by her traveling companion's side.

"Your loyalty will be remembered and one day repaid little fairy, that is the word of Bruce Bel Bahamut Belmont." Bruce declares in a solemn voice, walking up the last step of the stairs, arriving at where the large statue of Barbatos stands.

Neon purple Circuit-like symbols have appeared on Bruce's legs, he is using magic to enhance his physical abilities.

With a single superhuman leap, the Traveler lands atop the hands of the Barbatos statue.

"I have noticed not only the coming of the dragon, but also your arrival, Archon Anemo, Barbatos, we saw each other a short while ago, just for a second in the forest. I do not know exactly where you are, but I know that you are here and that you can hear me." Bruce said, speaking to the statue of Barbatos.

"My real name is Bruce Bel Bahamut Belmont, I have gone by the names of Arkan, Bloodedge, Saver and now I am the Traveler. But I have always had the same thankless role of being a hero." Bruce said, turning towards the city of Mondstadt, watching as Stormterror is summoning several cyclones inside the city.

"I will repel the dragon and save the city of Mondstadt, in exchange I want to find you right here at midnight and speak with you, Barbatos." Bruce said, raising his right hand in the air, bringing the Black Cube back into everyone's sight.

The Artifact begins to glow, absorbing the magical energy in the air.

"Paimon hopes you know what you're doing." The little fairy said, floating after the Traveler, having for once lost the will to speak.

"When it comes to drawing the ire of women and monsters, they're among the best in the Multiverse." Bruce said, keeping an eye on Stormterror as he flies and terrorizes the city.

"Medea, thank you again for teaching me this spell. Daedalus Cube, Fire!" Bruce exclaims, snapping his fingers and pointing his hand at his target.

The Artifact shines with a powerful dark purple color, a complex magic circle appears in front of it, then the magical energy is expelled from the cube, through the magic circle is created ...

BLAST

A magic beam with the force of a heavy tank bombardment.

The purple laser shoots across the sky of Mondstadt and ends up hitting the dragon's face.

"You hit him!" Paimon shouts with joy, believing that the battle will be over with just one hit.

"Yes, I hit him, but I didn't defeat him, I just got his attention and anger." Bruce said, raising his hand in the air again.

"haaaaaaaaa!" The dragon screams in anger, starting to fly straight towards the statue of Barbatos, where the Traveler and Paimon are.

"What do we do now!?" Paimon yells, panicking slightly.

"Simple, you take the broken glider you're holding and strap it to my back, then I'll take care of the rest." Bruce said, keeping his eye on the approaching target.

Paimon didn't say anything, just hooked the "broken" glider to his traveling companion's back and hoped for a miracle.

"The Game is on!" Bruce declares, snapping his fingers, then the Black Cube kicks into action.

Black mud poured out from the Artifact like a small waterfall, completely covering the Traveler.

'haaaaaaaaa!" The dragon roars, standing only a hundred meters away from the Statue of Barbatos.

"Paimon promises on the Seven Archons that if BB wins, he will eat less." The little fairy swears, in a little prayer.

"Rise dark hero!" Traveler shouts, as the black mud solidifies and changes shape, becoming something else.

Paimon closes his eyes for a moment.

SMASH !

The sound of two heavy objects hitting each other.

BLAST !

The sound of a spell being cast.

FLAP FLAP !

The beating of two powerful wings.

Paimon opens his eyes, he sees two things:

The first is the Stormterror with a wounded snout, missing a tooth, flying in circles around the square in front of Favonius Cathedral.

The second is a person completely wrapped in jet black armor, made to resemble a knight or an angel.

This character holds in his right hand a kind of short scepter, on his back there is a kind of cloak that is divided into two bat-like wings. Above his head there is a kind of halo with a small Black Cube in the center.

"The wheels of fate are turning. Round One, Traveler VS Stormterror, Start." Said the Traveler, speaking from within the black armor.

'Paimon wonders what that Goddess thought, sealing the powers, but leaving such a weapon in his hands.' Paimon thinks, watching as a gust of wind appears from nowhere and carries them into the sky above Mondstadt.

Continues ...

- The Archon House - Date A Liyue.

A tale of stories centered on the Traveler and a Liyue character of a romantic nature.

If you ask me why I start from Liyue, the answer is simple because in Liyue there are Zhongli, Xiao, Xingqiu, Ningguang, Beidou, Shenhe, Yelan.

If it's a question of which nation in Teyvat has the most attractive men and women, in my opinion, it's Liyue.
