Cassidy
Morning came faster than I wanted it to.
The light filtered through the curtains in soft golden waves, far too gentle for the ache still echoing in my chest from yesterday. I blinked up at the ceiling for a long time, letting the weight of memory settle.
The dining hall. The way Kieran had picked me up. My own betrayal of composure. Damon's laughter chasing me down the corridor like a taunt I hadn't been prepared for.
I rolled onto my side and groaned into the pillow.
"Still thinking about him?" Mara's voice startled me. She was already perched on the edge of my bed, holding a mug of something warm that smelled of cinnamon and nutmeg.
I narrowed my eyes. "Have you been sitting there long?"
"Long enough to watch you scowl in your sleep." She smirked, handing me the drink. "You're lucky you're cute when you're angry."
I took the mug and muttered a thanks. The warmth seeped into my fingers, and I let out a soft sigh. "I made a fool of myself yesterday."
