Chapter 13 - Veiled Equations

Mr Escareno's pov-

It was the last lecture of the day and I was genuinely, really happy that it involved Olivia. She was weak at my subject and I offered her extra tutoring to help her out. What I didn't know was that I'd get too attracted to her. She's half my age and I do feel guilty sometimes but you know how you can't really control how you feel. That's how I feel. I still remember it being my first day of my job here. I was deployed by Boss to keep an eye on this girl he's obsessed with. And then, I laid my eyes on her. She was cute, had a funky personality, but what stood out the most to me was her smile. Her aura always had me attracted to her. I tried to keep my distance, I really did but I couldn't. I'm weak for the women I like. I recently started to notice her behaviour towards me had changed. She wouldn't look at me directly in the eye when I'd talk to her but during the class, she would stare at me as if I don't notice her. Only if she knew how much she stands out to me. While I teach her, I noticed how she clenches her thighs when she's nervous. Ughh, just how much that turns me on. I really don't know how to control myself around her anymore.

Suddenly, a laugh brought me out of thoughts as I shouted angrily in response- "I want no unnecessary noises in my class. Am I clear?!". To which I see students nod and getting back to the work I just gave them. Honestly, I never thought I would get used to the whole teaching thing. I had math as my major when I was in college, which was ages ago. Then I met Ezra. He was just a kid back then. His family had some business relationship with my family. As he grew older, he took a lot of responsibility of his father's empire at the young age of 17. His mother soon after that left them for another man. That was the turning point of their family. Everything just fell apart after that. Ezra's dad secluded himself after his wife ran away. He didn't even talk to Ezra and Noah at all. He would be away for business trips all the time. Ironically, he still is. He takes care of their expenses but barely ever talks to them. I felt bad for the young kids going through all that and as moral responsibility, offered Ezra to work for him. I also needed a high paying job which a math degree apparently didn't offer. And that's how I ended up working for him. Who knew my math degree would end up being of use after all.

I scanned the classroom and noticed that Eve had her head down. I got worried for her. If something happens to her, Ezra would kill me for sure. To make sure she's alright, I made my way towards her seat. I lightly tapped her shoulder and she woke up with a jolt. Thank god she was just sleeping. I've noticed that she's a little lost these days. Maybe something is going on with her and Ezra. But I never ask him about his personal relations. Eve had missed a really important topic and Ezra wouldn't like her failing math. Especially when I'm the teacher. So, I told her to go to room 306 after the class. Room 306 is part of the restricted area of the building. I sent her there so Ezra feels better for her safety.

The class soon came to an end and everyone left, except Eve and Olivia. I quickly called Ezra to update him about the whole situation. Making sure everyone was away at a good distance, I start as he picked my call-

"Boss, Eve dozed off in my class so I had to arrange extra class for her so she doesn't fall back in accordance to the other students. Also, to ensure her safety, I asked her to go to room 306. Do you want me to help her in studies or do I look for someone else?".

Ezra growled in response. His voice never seems to not intimidate me. Just yesterday, he was a kid and now he's turned into this scary, young man. "nobody gets near my darling but me. And I wouldn't want you to get personally involved with her for now. Ask Noah to help her. They're in the same classes so it wouldn't seem suspicious either. Also, Noah has managed to maintain exceptionally good grades as you told me once, so it only makes sense to ask for his help. You know, he wouldn't decline. The kid's too kind" . Saying this, he disconnects the call. I really don't get these brothers sometimes (all the time). Well, Noah it is then.

Nerd's pov-

Sitting alone in the library, I was trying to finish all the work I was supposed to complete yesterday. But I was somewhere else, mentally, trying to wrap my head around the events that took place last night. I don't understand my brother at all. He doesn't care, not about me, not about dad, he cared for no one. But that was until last year. Things changes after this mysterious girl caught his eye. But I didn't know he would go to this extent for her. I've never seen him so passionate about anything or anyone, ever. Me and Ezra at a point of life even shared women because we thought it was better than fighting over one, of course with the women in question's consent. But when Ezra started to avoid answering my questions about this girl, I knew something was different. It honestly got me a little curious but I let him be. And somewhat, I'm relieved that he got something to care for, after so long.

After our mother left, Ezra broke. I was still young, too young to understand or care, but to him, mom was everything. He became an addict, drank day and night, used god knows what sort of drugs and well, dad, he was too drunken on sorrow to care about his own sons either. I had no one to look after me when I needed adult guidance the most. That's the reason I immersed myself into books and studies so much and became the "nerd", that's what they call me. But books were there for me when no one else was. Books did what most people couldn't, they stayed, they didn't run away or abandoned me. They're forever.

Anyways, it wasn't something completely out of nowhere that something happened in the alley. These sorts of events take place at the alley all the time. That's what it's known for. But the thing that was weird this time around was Ezra's involvement. You see, my brother, Ezra, has always been patient with fights or something that involves violence. He always plans his moves before attack. But after what happened last night, I know things are only going to go down hill after this. Ezra isn't the type to back down from a fight. He'll fight back with all his will. God know what'll happen now.

As I was lost in my thoughts, I noticed Escareno walking in. I raised my head towards his direction and nod towards him. Weird. Escareno never talks to me personally at college so we don't raise suspicion of any sort. He'd only talk to me if it's completely necessary. His presence made me curious of his motive to approach me. I raised my eyebrow at him, questioning to him the reason of his presence. He continues,

"Noah, I need your help a student of mine, Eve. She's in the same math class as you. She has been having some issues with studies and also didn't attentively attend today's lecture. I want you to help her if possible. I can't trust other men around her".

Interesting, I thought. "I can't trust other men around her". What's that supposed to mean?. And Eve, well, she's been on my mind lately too. After the classroom incident, I couldn't stop thinking about her. Maybe this is destiny. Me getting to be with her, alone. "of course. Why not?", I said without thinking much. It's not everyday that you get to spend time with your crush. Yes, crush. I admit that I've come to like her, just a little, or a lot. I admire her from a far, and she's just beautiful. Escareno cleared his throat, noticing that I had zoned out. He then, after getting my attention, replied-

"Thank you so much. She will meet you in room 306". And with this, he bowed and left.

Wait, room 306. No, maybe I heard wrong. That can't be right. That room is in the restricted area of our college. Me, my brother and Escareno are the only ones who have access to it. Our dad bought that wing for me to study without any disturbances and for Ezra to attend any emergency meetings. Even the headmaster has no access to that place. And now that he wants me to teach her there is just.... weird. Just then, the bell rang, indicating that it was time for me to go to room 306. I packed my books and left.
