Chapter 48 - tightening the public security

"Call up the monitoring footage from twelve o'clock noon today," Mu Xiaoyao ordered as soon as she arrived in the monitoring room.

"Okay, Team Mu," the police officer sitting in front of the computer responded. He tapped a few keys, and soon the replay of the video from noon that day appeared on the screen. Mu Xiaoyao's expression darkened as her eyes fixated on the large display in front of her.

Before long, she spotted two suspicious figures. "Bring that image up!" Her pupils constricted as she pointed at the video footage from the gate of the detention center.

The police officer operated the controls, and the two figures appeared prominently on the screen. Although they kept their heads down, Mu Xiaoyao recognized Ye Chen and Xiao Han immediately. "Call up the surrounding surveillance footage to see where they went after leaving."

The police officers retrieved all the nearby surveillance videos, which showed Ye Chen and Xiao Han disappearing into an alley that lacked surveillance cameras, leaving their whereabouts unknown.

"Check all the cameras in Jiangbei City for me! Ensure we monitor the airports, highway intersections, and train stations. We cannot let these two escape!" Mu Xiaoyao said angrily. Ye Chen and Xiao Han had escaped from the detention center in broad daylight, which was a direct slap in her face!

"Understood, Team Mu."

After exiting the monitoring room, Mu Xiaoyao walked directly toward the director's office. On her way, she took out her mobile phone and dialed Jiang Che. With Ye Chen on the loose, it was highly likely that he would seek revenge on Jiang Che, and she needed to give him a warning.

The phone rang for quite a while before it was answered. "Officer Mu, what's the matter?" Jiang Che's voice came through.

"Ye Chen and Xiao Han have escaped, and they are likely to seek revenge on you during this time, so be careful."

"They escaped?" Jiang Che was momentarily stunned. He never expected Ye Chen and Xiao Han to break out of the detention center. These two were audacious! They still wanted to run away? It wouldn't be long before arrest warrants filled Kyushu for the pair.

"Please be cautious. I have something else to attend to, so I'll hang up for now."

Mu Xiaoyao nodded and said, her anger still simmering, not wanting to chat too much with Jiang Che. After hanging up, she walked to Wang Yang's office.

She knocked on the door, and upon receiving Wang Yang's permission, she pushed the door open and walked in.

"Captain Mu, what brings you here?" Wang Yang greeted her cheerfully. He seemed to be in good spirits, likely unaware of the recent events.

"I have some bad news for you."

"What bad news?" A bad premonition flickered across Wang Yang's mind as he noted Mu Xiaoyao's grim demeanor.

"Ye Chen and Xiao Han have escaped..."

"What?" Wang Yang was taken aback, staring at Mu Xiaoyao with bewilderment. "They were securely locked up this morning! How did they escape?"

"A police officer was on patrol when Ye Chen claimed that Xiao Han was having a heart attack. When he went to check, he knocked him out and took the keys to unlock Prison," Mu Xiaoyao recounted, her voice tinged with frustration.

"Have you notified the relevant authorities?" Wang Yang asked, concern etched on his face.

"We notified them and instructed them to intercept at various checkpoints out of the city." Wang Yang's good mood evaporated instantly, replaced by a serious demeanor. "We must not let them escape; we need to catch them!"

"Yes!" Mu Xiaoyao nodded. She understood Wang Yang's concerns; both Ye Chen and Xiao Han were dangerous individuals. No one knew what they might do after escaping, especially Ye Chen, a mercenary from the Black Continent.

"How many people know about this?" Wang Yang asked, narrowing his eyes.

"I just found out, so not many people are aware yet."

"This matter must be kept under wraps; public opinion cannot get out of control!"

"Yes!" Mu Xiaoyao nodded solemnly, aware of the implications of letting this incident spiral into a public relations nightmare for the Jiangbei City Detention Center.

"Increase security measures at the detention center. This sort of thing must never happen again!" Wang Yang waved his hand, dismissing Mu Xiaoyao. The urgent priority was to catch the two escapees swiftly; otherwise, he would have no explanation for the higher-ups.
