Moreau Family pov
The Moreau family prepared for their extended stay in S City, a sense of anticipation mixed with underlying tension filling the opulent rooms of their Central City mansion. The departure, though planned, was tinged with the knowledge of Kail's early and solitary move.
Andre Moreau, his gaze sharp and calculating, adjusted his cufflinks. "Kail went to S City a month ago, a month earlier than scheduled. I suspect he's already begun observing his targets within the Tanaka family. He's a good reaper, efficient and precise." A hint of pride flickered in his eyes, though his tone remained detached.
Maya Moreau, her expression etched with a mother's worry, watched her husband with a silent plea. "I worry about Kail. He's so… distant. He's the only one of my children who can't express himself. Even as a child, he never cried, never smiled. Just that blank look, always. And even on the phone, he's just one-word replies, always distant. It hurts." Her voice was soft, laced with a quiet sorrow.
Shaun Moreau, his eyes fixed on his mother's troubled face, turned to his brother Issac, his voice laced with bitterness. "When is Mom going to realize that our little brother Kail will never be a normal person with emotions? No matter how many magic stones she gets, it's not going to work on him. Why does she even care so much about a son who's distant when she has us right here?"
Issac Moreau nodded, his gaze equally resentful. "You know he's always been her favorite, ever since he was born. And his illness didn't make it any better. She had him with her all the time when he was a kid. Kail would just stand there like a rock, and she would still love him more."
Zoey Moreau walked into the room, her expression hardening as she overheard her brothers' conversation. "You guys know that's not true," she said, her voice sharp. "You all know why Mom worries so much about Kail. It's because he can't feel or express his emotions like we can. And you know Mom doesn't have a favorite child. She sees Kail as a person, while you guys and Dad see him as a killing machine for the family business." She turned and walked away, her footsteps echoing through the hall as she went to pack her bags.
The family boarded their private jet, the sleek aircraft lifting smoothly into the sky. Andre had purchased a sprawling mansion in S City, a temporary residence for their stay.
"Someone call Kail and tell him we've landed in S City and are going to the mansion," Andre instructed, his voice authoritative. "Send him the location."
As the jet soared through the clouds, Maya's gaze remained fixed on the passing landscape, her heart heavy with a mother's unspoken fears. She longed for a connection with her son, a glimpse of the emotions she knew were locked deep within him. But she knew Kail was a man of his own path, and she could only hope that he would find his way, even if he walked it alone.
