Chapter 8 - The Prophecy Awakens

At 14, Magnus faced his first real test. Arnold and Tracy took him to a remote location, where they had set up a series of challenges designed to test his control over the crystal's power.

The final challenge was the most difficult. Magnus had to use the crystal's energy to create a barrier strong enough to withstand a powerful force. As he focused, he felt the energy surge through him, stronger than ever before. The barrier formed, shimmering and solid, but the force was relentless.

Just as he felt his strength waning, Eleanor stepped forward, her own energy joining his. Together, they strengthened the barrier, and the force was repelled.

When it was over, Magnus collapsed, exhausted but triumphant. Arnold and Tracy looked at him with pride. "You did it," Tracy said, her voice filled with admiration.

Eleanor smiled at him, a genuine, warm smile. "We did it," she corrected.

Magnus felt a surge of gratitude. For the first time, he felt like he truly belonged.

At 15, Magnus's training had reached a new level of intensity. He could now summon the crystal's energy with relative ease, creating barriers, healing minor wounds, and even manipulating objects with his mind. Arnold and Tracy watched him with a mixture of pride and something else—something Magnus couldn't quite place. It was as if they were waiting for something, biding their time.

One evening, after a particularly grueling session, Arnold called Magnus into his study. The room was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of old books and burning candles. Tracy stood by the window, her arms crossed, her expression unreadable. Magnus felt a knot of unease tighten in his stomach as he sat down.

"Magnus," Arnold began, his voice solemn, "it's time you learned the truth about the crystal—and about your role in all of this."

Magnus leaned forward, his heart pounding. He had always known there was more to the crystal than he was being told, but he had never pressed for answers. Now, it seemed, the answers were coming whether he was ready or not.

Arnold continued, "The crystal is not just a source of power. It is tied to an ancient prophecy, one that foretells the rise of a being who will wield its energy to protect the world from an impending darkness. This being—this conduit—will be the only one capable of fully tapping into the crystal's power and using it to seal away the darkness forever."

Magnus's eyes widened. "You mean… me?"

Tracy nodded, her expression grave. "Yes, Magnus. The crystal chose you. From the moment you arrived here, we knew you were special. You are the key to fulfilling the prophecy."

Magnus felt a surge of emotions—pride, fear, and a strange sense of destiny. "But… what does that mean? What do I have to do?"

Arnold's gaze was steady, almost unnerving. "You must continue to train, to grow stronger. When the time comes, you will face the darkness and use the crystal's power to seal it away. But be warned, Magnus—this will not be easy. The darkness is powerful, and it will test you in ways you cannot yet imagine."

Magnus nodded, though his mind was racing. He had always known his training was leading to something big, but this… this was beyond anything he had imagined. He felt the weight of the revelation settle on his shoulders, heavy and unrelenting.
