Just as her aching arms were about to give up holding Chasey back, Chasey's pupils returned to normal.
Gasping for air, she gripped Lethia's arm and collapsed onto the floor. Lethia instinctively caught her, keeping her from crumpling further.
She hadn't expected her last words to hit Chasey that deep.
"Hey… you're back? Are you okay?" she asked gently, watching Chasey's dazed eyes flutter. Her fangs had vanished, replaced by cold sweat trickling down her temple.
Lethia clutched both their game manuals and blueprints under one arm and helped Chasey up, supporting her weight as they made their way to the room.
Halfway there, Chasey muttered something that made Lethia halt in her tracks.
"I… I could feel it." Chasey paused. "He… he's my mate."
Lethia was a bit taken aback by that sudden confession and had no idea what to say or do. So she just kept holding Chasey up as the girl stumbled toward their room.
