Ezekiel stopped at the base of the steps leading to the throne, his hands folded neatly behind his back. He offered a small, polite smile but said nothing right away. The weight of the question lingered in the hall, heavy and demanding.
The king's brows furrowed. "All of a sudden, you declare it—without council, without warning. What are you thinking?"
Ezekiel finally looked up, his expression unreadable. So he noticed… Good.
He bowed slightly. "Forgive me, Father. But everything I do… is for the future of this kingdom."
The king studied him in silence, his expression as still and cold as a marble statue.
The king narrowed his eyes. "Oh? And what exactly do you want to do for the future of this kingdom, Ezekiel?"
Ezekiel stood still, his hands clenched at his sides. Silence stretched between them like a drawn sword.
