"Because not everyone wants Amara to get help," I said, looking up at the darkened sky. Night was coming, and with it, more risks. "Some want her power for themselves."
I pulled out my map and studied it. "There's an old witch path about half a mile east. It might still work."
We walked through the thick forest, pushing past branches and stepping over fallen logs. My mind raced with thoughts of the last time I'd been in these woods, twenty years ago.
"You never told me how you know Seraphina," Zara said, breaking the quiet.
I sighed. The girl deserved to know the truth if she was going to risk her life on this journey.
"We were friends once," I said. "Before she became Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. We trained together under the same witch elder."
"But werewolves hate witches," Zara said. "How could she become Luna?"
