Inside a cave.
Boldore steadily led the way forward, its massive and heavy rocky body moving slowly but with a sense of reliability.
Silas stayed completely behind Boldore, bending slightly to reduce the portion of his body exposed to danger.
"Blazeee…"
Blaziken followed behind, speaking in a soft voice, asking why its boss was being so cautious. With the strength it and Boldore possessed, there shouldn't be any opponents around here strong enough to pose a threat.
"Steady, we need to be steady, understand? You're always reckless. Look at Boldore—so calm and dependable!"
Silas was exasperated. He didn't understand why, despite being someone who always planned ahead, his first two Pokémon both had such impatient temperaments.
If Blaziken's impulsiveness could be attributed to its Fire-type nature, then what about Pidgeot? That guy was always flapping its mouth. Even earlier while flying overhead, it wouldn't shut up for a second. He needed to find a way to make it a custom muzzle or something.
"Blazee…"
Blaziken argued that with its current strength, even that Rhydon from before or the Nidoking and Nidoqueen couple would get pounded into the ground if they showed up again.
Silas rolled his eyes. "And what if all three of them show up at once? We're here for revenge this time, we need to take them out one by one. Got it?"
Blaziken nodded as it punched away a clueless Zubat that had tried to charge in. It accepted Silas' explanation. The boss was in charge—its job was just to fight.
It was a bit strange though. Wild Pokémon usually feared the strong and avoided conflict, and Boldore and Blaziken were not exactly small or weak. Yet this Zubat still charged in like an idiot.
Silas reached out and patted Boldore's side, signaling it to halt.
He dug through his backpack and pulled out the positioning map he had left from before. After checking it, he realized they were close—very close—to where the Rhydon should be.
Yes, his plan was to take out the Rhydon first. He wasn't sure if it was still around, but it probably was. Rhydon weren't the migratory type—they could stay in one place for a very long time.
Compared to the Nidoking and Nidoqueen couple,Rhydon had the stronger individual power. But since it didn't have any allies nearby, it would be easier to deal with.
The other lackeys, while just grunts, would be a problem if they swarmed together.
Continuing forward, Silas soon spotted the broken cave opening that Blaziken—back when it was still a Combusken—had destroyed earlier.
The place was a mess.
The entrance that had once been blocked by rocks had been violently blasted open. Debris and stones were scattered everywhere.
"Hm… height about 1.8 meters. Judging from the pressure patterns in the footprints and the size of the toes, body weight should be around 110 kilograms.
Seems kind of underdeveloped."
Silas stood at the entrance, glancing around. Occasionally he would squat down to examine something on the ground, muttering nonstop.
"The way this corner was bashed in, hmm…"
He pulled a ruler out of his backpack. "Diameter 10.2 centimeters. Four centimeters smaller than the male standard. So this big guy's a female, huh? No wonder she looks slightly more delicate."
"There's an injury on her left foot. Based on how her body applies force, she clearly doesn't use any punching moves.
From the texture of the stones and soil, her control over her abilities seems pretty decent. Makes sense—Rhydon's intelligence does increase after evolution.
Still, does evolving from quadruped to biped really boost brain development? I thought Rhydon wasn't known for its memory."
Silas rambled on, one sentence after another. It had become a habit ever since he arrived in this world.
Due to his precocious nature and a learning pace far beyond his peers, he had never really had anyone to talk to.
Not that no one tried to interact with him—it was just that he found other kids too childish. After all, his mental age was more than twenty years older than his physical age. It was hard to relate to childish games.
Back then, even adults worried Silas might grow up withdrawn, unable to live independently, or become the target of bullying. But when they saw how at ease and self-sufficient he was, they eventually let go of their concerns.
Originally, he had a habit of speaking while reading or studying, analyzing things aloud. But he later realized this could be disruptive in public places—especially quiet spots like the library.
So over time, that habit shifted. Now, when he was out adventuring in the wild, he would unconsciously mutter to himself while analyzing wild Pokémon's behavior and physique.
After all, he rarely encountered people in the wilderness. The world was simply too vast. And with his own Pokémon on alert, it was quite safe.
"Hm?"
Lying on the ground, Silas seemed to notice something. He crouched and crept toward the side of a cave.
Pinching up a bit of dark gray powder, he brought it to his nose and sniffed. "This stuff's... kinda weird."
There was no trace of energy coming from it, but it looked suspiciously like Moon Stone powder.
"Don't tell me this big guy thought the Moon Stone was food, gnawed on it, and then... passed it out the other end."
Looking at some strange rock-and-earth formations off to the side, Silas made a guess and couldn't help feeling a bit helpless. What a waste—truly a shame.
But there wasn't much to be done about it. Though Moon Stones didn't benefit Rhydon in any way, rocks that naturally emitted energy waves were highly prized by Ground- and Rock-type Pokémon. Not just Rhydon—many species viewed them as delicious treats. Upon seeing such rocks, they'd instinctively eat them.
If their teeth were in good condition, they could grind down and digest the rocky part of evolutionary stones. As for the energy inside—well, that would dissipate along with the crumbling of the stone.
"Alright, that gives me another reason to lecture him. Wasting resources isn't acceptable—we have to make good use of everything."
Muttering indistinctly under his breath, Silas crept into the cave with his Blaziken.
Boldore, his other Pokémon, had been left outside to stand guard. It was too heavy and couldn't move silently. If it used Gravity to assist its steps, the wave of energy from that would be far too obvious.Rhydon would surely wake up.
So for now, Boldore stood ready outside for support and surveillance.
Silas and his Blaziken tiptoed into the Rhydon's den. According to its habits, it should be napping around this time.
Sure enough.
Lying with its back to the cave entrance was a Pokémon that resembled a dinosaur. Its entire body was gray, and a sharp drill-like horn jutted from its forehead. It was fast asleep.
Several pointed spikes jutted from its back, aimed right at the cave's entrance. A thick collar of armor wrapped around its neck, protecting its vital areas.
Even in its sleep, its powerful tail kept swaying and occasionally thudded against the ground with a muffled sound. That tail was Rhydon's tool for maintaining balance.
After observing for a moment, Silas and his Blaziken silently retreated.
"Why?"
Blaziken looked puzzled. This big guy was asleep—wasn't this the perfect chance to strike? Watch me knock it down in a couple of hits! Why not attack?
