Chapter 49 - Dead Dungeon

"DO YOU HAVE THE CORE?!" (Justin)

"Yes, Fuck! Have it right here." (Kyle)

Kyle dodged an attack while shouting, as buildings seemed to come alive, as lamp posts and rubble attempted to strike at them.

"THEN WHY THE HELL IS THE CITY STILL ALIVE?!" (Mark)

Mark bent back as a pole nearly decapitated him.

"Hey, think of this city as its body, we might have to get out of the city with its heart to kill it, a body can't live without a heart in its chest, artificial or not! Or else we might have to destroy the core first!" (Anna)

Anna yelped as Greyson lifted Anna and started to run.

"NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT!" (Greyson)

"WHAT THE FUCK MAN!" (Kyle)

They all ran together, still shouting at one another.

"WHY DON'T WE JUST CRUSH THE CORE NOW?" (Mark)

"HELL TO THE NO! WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE DO THAT WHILE STILL IN THE CITY! I DON'T PLAN TO DIE BEING CRUSHED TO DEATH!" (Anna)

City buildings crumbled, caving into themselves to block their path as they ran, forcing them to make tight turns and quick stops as they weaved through the city.

"Left!" (Justin)

Justin shouted directions, his tactical mind seeming to work to lay out a path of escape as they made it out of the city. A wail came from the buildings as the city shook.

"I don't like that." (Mark)

"None of us do, Kyle, break the orb." (Anna)

"Aye, Captain." (Kyle)

Kyle held the orb to the ground and nodded to Mark. Mark approached, holding his hammer before swinging it down, shattering the core. The city went quiet before visible cracks formed along all the buildings. And it started to shatter and crumble into pieces.

"Okay, I'm glad we weren't in the city." (Mark)

"I am so glad I'm paranoid." (Anna)

"Huh?" (Kyle)

"What?" (Anna)

"I thought you were one of those people who claimed that they aren't paranoid even though they are." (Kyle)

"It's the apocalypse, I'm allowed to be paranoid." (Anna)

"Point taken." (Kyle)

"Also, did you seriously make a SpongeBob reference?" (Anna)

"Ha, you caught that?" (Kyle)

"I would have to live in a hole for my entire life not to have known the reference." (Anna)

"Cool, what's your favorite episode?" (Kyle)

"Kyle, I said i would have had to live in a metaphorical hole for my whole life, doesn't mean I ever watched it." (Anna)

"You have had no childhood." (Kyle)

Anna gave him a look and smirked.

"At least I can say I had a life in my generation rather than watching a show that has been going on and off for almost sixty years." (Anna)

"It's a classic." (Kyle)

"It has been scientifically proven to be brain rot." (Anna)

Kyle and Anna kept up their banter till Justin cleared his throat loudly.

"Sorry to intrude, but Mark has something to say." (Justin)

Anna frowned imperceptibly but kept a neutral expression.

"It gives us several options again."

[Congratulations on completing your quest and your party's quest.]

[We will enact your evolutions after you select your winnings. Thank you for the engaging entertainment.]

[Safe haven: You can use the dungeon core to form a barrier around a set area to prevent monster attacks. This barrier can block monster attacks from levels 50-300. Any Higher and the barrier will shatter. This barrier will last for 30 years after being placed, 30 years unless it is broken, then the dungeon core will become inert and shatter, as it will permanently be destroyed. This barrier diameter is approximately 850 feet.]

[Gamble of Growth: You and your group will be randomly granted one item per dungeon participant. If it is an item, it will be a growth item that will level with you as you get stronger. The items offered range from Equipment, Spells, Potions, Potion recipes, Crafting equipment, and weapons. The rollout will be random, so the items may not suit you or your group. The dungeon core will shatter once each item is summoned into being.]

[Foundation of multiple: each member of your group will be granted a single skill at random. If you already have the skill, they will fuse to upgrade them to the next level. When your group members get granted a skill, the core will shatter.]

[Elixer of Agility: Your group currently lacks the attributed skill to access this option.]

[Collasal shift: This spell will allow the controlled destruction of earthen materials. Only one person will be granted this scroll. However, this ability requires an affinity to cast. If none of your party has an affinity for earth magic, the scroll will refuse to integrate into your soul.]

[Auto build: This skill will start at the lowest level. It will allow the instant construction and manipulation of a building. This skill will be granted to all members of the party. There will be restrictions on using this ability.]

[Can always find you: This skill will be granted to a chosen party member, allowing them to sense and locate any rare level living dungeon. Living dungeons only appear at random or won't manifest for several centuries.]

"Sorry, but Collasal Shift is a no, I'd rather not waste it on something that none of us may get." (Greyson)

"Can always find you is a no again because they might not manifest during our lifetime." (Justin)

"No to Safe Haven." (Anna)

"No elixer again, but we all are at the right level for it this time." (Mark)

"We did Gamble of Growth last time, so we might as well choose either Foundation of Multiple and Autobuild." (Anna)

"Vote again?" (Justin)

"Works for me." (Greyson)

Mark shrugged with a calm expression on his face as he nodded slightly.

"Agreed." (Anna)

Kyle shrugged but moved, getting comfortable as he sat on the ground.

"Well, my Choice is Foundation of Multiple." (Greyson)

"Auto build. I don't mind the tents, but a roof over our heads, I don't care if I can only build something out of the materials available. Besides, monsters have been acting more aggressively at night, and I'd rather have a wall of earth than a wall of cloth to protect us, and it would make setting up camp much faster." (Anna)

"Foundation of Multiple." (Justin)

"Auto build. I never liked camping that much, and I think it would be funny to have people arrive to see a random house in the middle of a beach or something else." (Kyle)

Mark looked like he had taken a bite out of a lemon.

"Auto build then. Maybe we can use it in combat." (Mark)
