Isolde's POV
My fingers trembled as I put the final crystal in the circle. The tracking spell was nearly complete. All I needed was one drop of my blood to trigger it.
The small cabin the Queen had given me sat at the edge of the Syndicate's land. Far enough from prying eyes, close enough to keep my cover. Moonlight streamed through the windows, casting long shadows across my desk.
I pricked my finger with a silver needle and watched as a perfect crimson drop fell onto the center crystal. It glowed bright purple, then faded to a quivering blue. The other crystals lit up in sequence, making a map of energy in the air.
There. Three bright spots of light – Kieran, Ronan, and Caius. All still at the Shadowfang house. And between them, the brilliant red glow that was Sienna.
I smiled. The Queen would be pleased with my report.
A floorboard creaked behind me.
I spun around, magic crackling at my fingers, ready to strike.
