Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Evolution, Evolution Again!

"Blaziken, use Flamethrower!"

"Charmeleon, counter with Flamethrower!"

The battle between Robert and Red intensified as their fire-type Pokémon unleashed powerful flames, colliding in midair with a deafening explosion. Without hesitation, both trainers ordered their Pokémon to charge at each other once more. Blaziken aimed a Fire Punch, while Charmeleon countered with Metal Claw. Their attacks clashed repeatedly—Blaze Kick against Iron Tail, both combatants refusing to back down.

After several fierce exchanges, Blaziken's movements began to slow. Seeing an opportunity, Charmeleon swung its Iron Tail with full force, striking Blaziken and sending it crashing to the ground.

"Charmeleon, finish this!" Red commanded.

Robert clenched his fists, knowing that Blaziken's stamina was nearly depleted. From the start of the battle, it had been forced to push itself beyond its limits, while Charmeleon still had enough energy to keep fighting at full strength.

Blaziken panted heavily, struggling to get back up. Charmeleon, sensing victory, inhaled deeply, gathering fire energy in its throat before releasing an intense Flamethrower toward its opponent.

"Blaziken!" Robert shouted anxiously, hoping it could dodge or counterattack.

However, Blaziken didn't flinch. Instead, it stood its ground, staring at the approaching flames with determination. Even in defeat, it refused to show weakness.

With a loud boom, the flames engulfed Blaziken. As the fire dissipated, Blaziken was left kneeling on the battlefield, its eyes swirling in a daze—knocked out.

"Blaziken is unable to battle!"

Red's Charmeleon let out a triumphant roar, exhaling smoke from its nostrils while small flames flickered in its mouth. It basked in the thrill of victory, but suddenly, its body was enveloped in a dazzling white light.

"It's evolving again?" Robert was stunned, barely believing what he was witnessing.

Was this even fair?

Did Red's Pokémon evolve after every battle?

Robert had been training Pokémon for years, yet he had never seen such rapid progress. Even the bug-type Pokémon he had caught—known for their fast evolution—didn't evolve this quickly. Watching Red's Charmeleon transform before his eyes made him feel as if all his years of training were being mocked.

As the white light faded, Charmeleon was gone. In its place stood a towering dragon-like Pokémon—Charizard.

Its orange-red skin had lightened to a brighter shade of orange. Its cream-colored belly stretched from its lower jaw to the tip of its tail. It now had thick, muscular limbs with sharp claws on both its hands and feet. But the most striking feature was the large, powerful wings that had grown from its back, their inner membranes a deep blue-green.

Charizard let out a deafening roar, flapping its newly formed wings with excitement.

Robert took a deep breath, still trying to process what had just happened.

"Even though I already said this earlier, I'll say it again—congratulations, Red. Your Charmeleon has finally evolved into Charizard."

Red smiled. "Thanks, Robert. I have to give credit to you. If it weren't for this battle, I don't think Charmeleon would've evolved so soon."

"Are you serious?!" Robert almost laughed at the absurdity. "Every time you battle, one of your Pokémon evolves! What kind of ridiculous luck is this?"

Red simply shrugged. "Maybe my team just thrives on strong opponents."

Robert sighed but managed a grin. "Well, I guess I should thank you too. This battle was valuable for my Blaziken. Even though we lost, it gained experience that will make it stronger next time."

"That's the spirit," Red said.

After chatting for a while and exchanging training tips, Red accepted the 1,000 Pokémon Coins he had won from their wager. Before parting ways, they promised to battle again at the Indigo League Conference.

As Robert walked away, Red turned his attention to Charizard, who was still admiring its new form.

"How do you feel, Charizard?" Red asked.

Charizard let out a deep roar, lifting one claw to signal that it felt amazing. It stretched its wings proudly, flapping them a few times to get used to their size.

For a long time, Charizard had been envious of Red's Pidgeot and Beedrill, watching them soar effortlessly through the skies. But now, it had wings of its own. Finally, it could fly too.

Charizard turned to Red, eyes filled with determination.

Red chuckled. "You want to take me flying, don't you?"

"Aoao!" Charizard nodded enthusiastically.

Red smiled, placing a hand on Charizard's thick neck. "Alright, but before that, let's focus on getting used to your new strength. We've got tough battles ahead."

Charizard gave a fierce growl and nodded. No matter what challenges lay ahead, it would fight alongside Red, never backing down.

The bond between trainer and Pokémon had only grown stronger.

And with Charizard by his side, Red felt more ready than ever for the battles to come.
