Primrose spotted something in the sky, a glowing ball of fire racing across the clouds.
It moved so fast that by the time she blinked, it had already vanished.
"So … that's the phoenix," she whispered to herself, a little amazed.
She had a lesson with Sevrin soon after, so after seeing the phoenix fly off with her letter to Moonshadow, she made her way to the library to meet the royal advisor.
Later that day, just before the sun disappeared behind the horizon, Solene came to her with a reply from Raven.
The Marchioness of Moonshadow didn't say much in her letter.
All the letter said was: "My deepest apologies, Your Majesty. Unfortunately, I cannot visit you."
Primrose raised an eyebrow. "That's it?"
There was no explanation. No kind words. Nothing more than a polite refusal.
Still, Primrose had a feeling she knew the reason. It probably had something to do with the Marquess.
Most likely, he didn't want Raven to leave the house.
What a jerk.
