"I bought a house!" Naruto announced excitedly to the legendary Sannin.
The three of them glanced at him, unimpressed.
"What's wrong? Is your house falling apart?" Tsunade asked with a raised brow.
"...Isn't this something to celebrate?" Naruto frowned, feeling a bit deflated.
Tsunade scoffed. "Why would it be? As a Senju princess, I've never had to worry about housing."
Orochimaru remained indifferent. "I inherited my parents' house."
Jiraiya, however, clapped him on the back, grinning. "It's definitely something worth celebrating! Treat us to some barbecue!"
"Damn freeloaders..." Naruto muttered but relented.
At the barbecue restaurant, Naruto eyed the three legendary shinobi across from him. A grin spread across his face.
To his left—Orochimaru, absurdly ripped, his usual lanky frame replaced with chiseled muscle. Eight-pack abs on a snake man? Unbelievable.
In the middle—Jiraiya, unchanged, his wild mane as unruly as ever.
And to the right...
"Hey, why are you sitting across from me, Tsunade? Come sit next to me!" Naruto patted the seat beside him.
The Sannin all collectively sighed.
"War is coming," Naruto stated, his usual playful demeanor vanishing. The three immediately tensed.
"You've noticed, haven't you? The increased activity between Konoha and Amegakure... Tensions are rising. The Daimyō is hungry for expansion. His eyes are set on the Land of Wind and the Land of Iron. The Land of Rain is just an obstacle in the way."
Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru exchanged wary glances.
"So? What does that have to do with Konoha?" Tsunade frowned.
Naruto sighed. "Do you really think Konoha is just a village that takes on missions for money? We are the Fire Daimyō's military arm. We might pretend to be neutral, but in reality, we are bound to support his ambitions. Even if the Third Hokage preaches peace, he won't be able to refuse a direct request for military aid."
Tsunade clenched her fists. "Why? My grandfather built this village to protect people, not to serve as a tool for war. My granduncle died in the First Shinobi War. And now history is repeating itself."
"That's why the three of you should stick with me on missions," Naruto said seriously. "I don't want you dying on me. Take these next few days to prepare. We'll be heading to the battlefield soon."
Within days, the Fire Nation's army mobilized. Konoha's shinobi were sent ahead, their duty to gather intelligence and eliminate threats before the main force arrived.
Naruto, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru moved with the troops.
Tsunade walked beside Naruto, watching tens of thousands of soldiers march. "I always thought the Second Shinobi War was just between villages. But this... this is a full-scale invasion."
"Ninja wars are never just about shinobi," Naruto replied grimly. "Villages fight, but the true war is waged by nations. The samurai, the foot soldiers... they are the ones who suffer the most. Our job is to make sure they don't get slaughtered by enemy shinobi."
"Water Style: Waterfall Basin Jutsu!"
A massive wave crashed toward the marching army, an ambush from enemy shinobi.
Sarutobi Shikama, the commander, didn't flinch. "Earth Style users! Earth Flow Wall—now!"
Hundreds of Konoha shinobi slammed their hands to the ground, raising massive barriers of stone to shield the army.
"Archers! First wave, fire!" a general barked.
Arrows rained down, cutting through enemy ranks. Distant screams rang out.
"Keep marching!" The general's voice was steady. Death meant nothing to him—just another day in war.
Jiraiya swallowed hard. "Hundreds of people just died in a single exchange..."
"This is just the beginning," Orochimaru murmured.
By nightfall, they reached the outskirts of the Land of Rain. The army made camp, setting up defensive formations.
Inside the war tent, Sarutobi Shikama addressed the high-ranking shinobi. "Tomorrow marks the start of ninja combat. The enemy's forces will be waiting with traps and ambushes. Our job is to clear the way."
He turned to Naruto. "Namikaze, you're leading a squad of 1,000 chūnin. Your team—Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru—will advance through the eastern highlands. This is a direct order from the Third Hokage. Show me what you're capable of."
Naruto nodded. "Understood."
"Akimichi Daisuke, you'll take the central plains. Nara Shikakazu, Yamanaka Inori—you'll secure the western front. Hyūga Koji, your Byakugan will be crucial in the scouting operations. Inuzuka Ryou, you'll provide tracking support."
Shikama's voice was calm, commanding. "Rest tonight. We move at dawn."
Back at their tent, Naruto smirked at Tsunade. "Hey, wanna see something cool? I—"
BAM!
Tsunade knocked him out cold and dragged him away.
Jiraiya and Orochimaru exchanged looks. "...That was expected."
The next morning, the assault began. Naruto's team led the way, hundreds of shinobi darting through the forests of the Land of Rain.
Explosions rang out.
"Detonating tags! Evade!" Jiraiya barked as kunai rained from the trees.
Dozens of shinobi fell in the chaos. The first battle had begun.
"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"
A giant serpentine dragon of water crashed into their formation. Tsunade gritted her teeth, hands glowing green as she rushed to heal the injured.
"We're losing too many people," Orochimaru observed. "We need to push forward."
"Agreed," Naruto said. "Jiraiya, let's go. Tsunade, stay behind and keep them alive."
By nightfall, the battlefield was littered with bodies. Hundreds of Konoha shinobi had died.
Jiraiya sat by the fire, face grim. "So this is war..."
Naruto stared into the flames. "People will always fight. Greed, power, hatred—it doesn't matter. The only way to end war... is to be stronger than it."
Tsunade looked down at her bloodstained hands. "I hate this."
"Then survive," Orochimaru said. "You can't change the world if you're dead."
Weeks passed. The war raged on. The Konoha forces pushed deeper into the Land of Rain.
On the central battlefield, the armies of the Land of Fire and the Land of Rain finally clashed in open combat.
Naruto's unit had broken through the rainforest, heading for Amegakure itself.
But just as they advanced, a thick, toxic mist rolled in, covering the battlefield in a shroud of death.
"Poison gas! Fall back—"
The war had only just begun.
