Chapter 52 - Colorful Madness

That night I stayed at my uncle's house; I talked a bit with Ilay and Elvis, but Michael was nowhere to be seen. We joked around, played around, and even cooked our dinner all together.

It was a pleasant experience seeing them all trying to come up with dishes to cook while also being completely inexperienced.

When the next day arrived, I woke up next to a familiar face. My personal maid was standing next to the bed; she was silently using a cotton swab to clean her cat ears. She seemed pretty thorough and rough with them as she was cleaning.

Huh? Didn't I leave you… Wait, fuck, it's true. Where were you yesterday? Did I mistakenly leave you at school yesterday? Oh, does this mean I'm in trouble?

Next to me was Leonhart, deep asleep, snoring without a care in the world, wrapped tightly in pretty heavy bedsheets.

"Oh, good morning, young master! You woke up earlier than usual; did you have a good sleep?" She greeted me in her usual cheerful tone; nothing was unusual.

So, was I able to get away with it scot-free? Nice!

"Yeah, I was able to enjoy my stay here, so what's in store for me today?" I asked as I stretched my body and got out of bed.

"The usual, we're going to have to return to the mansion to quickly wash you up and get you ready for your remedy classes, then we have some tutors coming in the evening for some supplementary classes in the evening." She responded.

Ugh, every bit of happiness I had now is gone… I am tired just listening to this god-awful plan; I can't even imagine what it's like to actually live it.

I sighed and followed her outside; from then on, the usual routine followed. But there were odd things that didn't match up. Both the pig and Leonora were missing from school. I could already imagine why the pic was missing but not the heir who the arena belonged to.

Everyone behaved as usual, as if nothing had happened the day prior, talking about games, vacations, and other things.

Another odd thing was how during the lesson I was able to perfectly follow what the teacher was saying; I already knew it and could predict what he was about to say.

Is this the effect of the bullet when used on myself? Isn't this extremely convenient? No, no! There has to be a catch; no demonic weapon would be this convenient, or is it this convenient because it sucks so much as an actual weapon?

As the teacher went by, explaining the names of the country, I was debating on whether or not I should continue to use that weapon on myself.

If I shoot too many bullets at myself, I could end up like that other guy…

The mere thought was enough to make shivers run down my body.

But… but, if I can dose it well, I could skip studying entirely. But to know what the limit is, I have to test it out on that poor maid once more… I don't really feel like doing… Ugh, so complicated…

"Lucifer Jittermeist! Is the lesson not to your liking?" The teacher suddenly called out my name.

Huh? Why me? Everyone else is minding their own business right now; no one is following the lesson! Why me specifically, at this point? Admit it! You hate me!

"N-no, I was just—"

"Enough with the excuses; can you tell me the names of the five great nations of the surface?" He said while fidgeting with his computer to cut off access to the internet.

I sighed; it was an easy question to answer, at least now. In order from biggest to smallest were Kaelvorn, Lysara, Vordren, Thalris, and lastly Erezkal.

Each of them had suffered great losses ever since the appearance of the Fracture over a hundred years ago and are now struggling, trying to recover from the damage done by either the demons or the loss of territory at the hands of the massive rapture that appeared on the surface.

The teacher didn't look all too pleased by my response; perhaps he was hoping for me to fail, but not today, even in my worst performing subject. The power I had was simply too perfectly suited for these kinds of situations.

More or less the same thing happened in every other lesson, although the teachers in those cases were picking on me and interrogating the whole classroom. I was always able to answer correctly, leaving some of them satisfied or impressed even in small cases.

Even the other classmates were looking at me with shock.

That's right! I'm no longer on your level! I'm a step above you! How does it feel? Someone who got here managed to surpass you in just a couple of days.

"How did you manage to memorize all of those things in advance? Did you pretend to be dumber than you are during the evaluation test?" Lyjah asked while Ron was visibly trying to stop him from speaking any further.

"I just applied a little more effort than usual, that's all." I replied.

Hehe, feeling jealous? I bet so; maybe if you beg me, I'll let you in on the secret, so long as you don't hold demonic weapons. This might actually be possible; I still don't know the side effects, but I doubt it's going to be something significant.

"So, does this mean you have some free time to join us?" Lyjah asked.

"Oh, probably, I would have to ask my mother, what are you going to do?" I asked in return.

That's when Lyjah exploded with enthusiasm, proudly messing with Ron's screen to show me what he wanted to talk about.

Apparently a large facility was about to be added permanently to the city, a new floating island about to be assimilated; in it was the place Lyjah desperately wanted to show me.

"We're going to go hunting!" He proudly announced.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked for clarification almost immediately.

The knowledge granted me by the many movies I saw made me think they were going to hunt a bunch of humans for sport, but instead that wasn't the case; it was much worse, at least in my mind.

They were crazy enough to bring back a bunch of species from extinction and took care of them without letting them grow attached to humans so they could still run away when hunted.

They more than likely had the technology to do all of that in virtual reality; doing it in person seemed extremely wrong in my eyes.

Lyjah showed me a bunch of images of the animals brought back from extinction; some of those were birds, some were a lot more colorful than others, some couldn't even fly but were extremely tall, possessing giant legs, some were many species of deer, and other horned mammals.

"So, when will this facility open?" I asked them.

"Oh, in about a week, we're just going to train using virtual reality. I heard it's pretty difficult to hunt, so we want to be as prepared as possible." Ron explained.

If you can do it in virtual reality, why do you even… you know what? I'm not even going to get mad about this… I'm just… I don't know.
