Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: The Black Maid and the Foreign Residents

Back in his room, Lin Fan walked over to the chest and began organizing the items in his travel backpack.

He had brought back a lot of things this time, so he planned to craft a few more chests and sort everything properly.

Lin Fan took some oak planks from his backpack and made twelve small chests, then combined them into six large chests.

He sorted out the minerals and placed them all in one chest.

The other chests were designated as follows: one for food, one for weapons and tools, one for enchanted books and potions, one for miscellaneous items, and one for monster drops.

As he patiently organized his backpack, Heloi curiously explored the house, looking around excitedly. It was her first time here, so almost everything felt new and fascinating to her.

Like a child, she touched this and that, inspecting everything closely. Meanwhile, Lilian, exhausted, simply collapsed onto the bed.

Seeing the two of them being so adorable, Lin Fan couldn't help but smile.

While sorting his items, he glanced at Lilian and asked,

"Tell me about the Nine-Story Monster Tower."

Hearing Lin Fan's voice, Lilian lazily sat up from the bed.

She thought for a moment before speaking.

"Actually, the residents of Blue Star are not the first ones to arrive in this world." Lilian looked up at Lin Fan.

Her words made Lin Fan pause his actions.

"What do you mean?"

"A couple of years ago, over a billion people logged into this world. When they arrived, they were just like the residents of Blue Star—unable to survive, unfamiliar with crafting recipes, and speaking in a strange language.

This group of people might not have come from the same world as you, but they definitely came from a similar one, as your ways of speaking are quite alike," Lilian said calmly.

Her words sent shockwaves through Lin Fan's mind.

He never expected that people from other planets had also logged into this Minecraft-like world.

"And what happened to them…?"

"Not many of them survived. Just like you, out of over a billion people, only about a quarter made it through. Some of those survivors established their own villages and managed to live on in this world.

So, not all villagers are native inhabitants. Take the fishing village, for example—many of its residents are actually outsiders.

However, since they have already integrated into this world, they don't seem much different from the original residents."

"I never imagined… that it was like this." Lin Fan took a deep breath, his expression complicated. He looked at Lilian.

"And then what?"

Lilian got up from the bed and started organizing the items in her own backpack, placing them into the chests.

"Then… the survivors of that group—those who were timid—stayed in this dimension, while the braver ones ventured into other dimensions."

"There are other dimensions?" Lin Fan was truly shocked by this revelation.

Although he had speculated about this when he obtained the Fire Elemental Armor Set, hearing Lilian confirm it still felt unbelievable.

Lilian nodded and took a deep breath.

"Yes. Directly above us, ten thousand blocks high, there is a floating island. That place is considered another dimension, though just a lower-tier one."

"You've been there?" Lin Fan asked in surprise.

Lilian nodded.

At this moment, Heloi walked over.

"Actually, this isn't too hard to understand. I wouldn't really call it a different dimension," she said crisply. "I come from the Twilight, and that place could also be considered another dimension."

"The Twilight Forest?"

"You actually know about it?" Heloi looked surprised.

Seeing her reaction, Lin Fan immediately understood what they meant by "another dimension."

Places like the Twilight Forest and the Nether were considered separate dimensions to Lilian and the others.

All of these dimensions required portals to enter. The key difference was that the Floating Island had people living in it.

It was a completely different world, meaning the way people fought and survived there varied greatly.

"I've been to the Twilight Forest before, but when I went, there were no humans there," Lin Fan replied.

Hearing this, both Heloi and Lilian froze.

"No humans?"

"The Twilight Forest has been inhabited by humans for over ten thousand years. Are you saying you've lived for over ten thousand years?" Lilian asked in shock.

Humans had taken root in the Twilight Forest for millennia, slowly thriving and building their civilization. By now, the forest had a history of ten thousand years.

If Lin Fan said he had been there when there were no humans, then just how long had he been alive?

Lin Fan wasn't sure how to explain it.

He couldn't exactly tell them he had only been there in a video game, could he?

"Uh… don't worry about that. Let's get back to the topic of the Nine-Story Monster Tower," Lin Fan quickly changed the subject.

Lilian was still curious, but since Lin Fan clearly didn't want to talk about it, she didn't press further.

"I have an older sister. She's also a maid."

"A sister?" Lin Fan looked at Lilian in confusion. "Didn't you say you were the only omniscient maid in the world?"

"That's correct," Lilian replied. "About five thousand years ago, maids were everywhere, especially in desert regions where they existed in large numbers.

Anyone could easily obtain countless maids just by offering cake or sugar. They were highly functional and easy to tame.

But because of this, they were driven to extinction.

Now, there are only two maids left in the entire world—me and her."

Lilian paused for a moment, taking a deep breath.

"But she's different from me. Three thousand five hundred years ago, she killed her master and suffered a backlash.

Normally, she should have died. But somehow, she survived all these years by consuming the hearts of monsters.

However, in doing so, she lost the ability to form contracts with humans.

So, in a sense, she's not truly a maid anymore."

She looked up at Lin Fan.

"Right now, across all dimensions, I am the only maid capable of forming a proper contract. That's why I say I am the last omniscient maid."

As she spoke, a trace of sorrow flickered in Lilian's eyes. After all, she had witnessed the deaths of all her kin.

Even after so many years, thinking about it still made her feel sorrowful.

She took a deep breath.

"Last year, the Black Maid returned with a man. That man was supposedly one of the foreign residents who logged into this world two years ago.

At the time, I didn't pay much attention to it, but then they entered the Nine-Story Monster Tower.

And once they went in, they never came out.

I was worried for a while, but when nothing else happened, I stopped thinking about it.

But I never expected that this year, the Nine-Serpent King disappeared along with them…"

Lilian's voice was quiet, but Lin Fan couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine…
