Cherreads

Chapter 59 - Weaver War (3)

Surrounded by Myra's red mana acting as a shield, Myra and Ira pierced the veil into the other world.

There was nothing but buttes, hoodoos, and pillars, and the endless stretch of dry sands mixed with barren soil. Here and there, sparse grass or a random solitary tree stood, sickly and twisted, but nothing more.

Immediately from the ground, hundreds of acidic balls crashed into her shield. Sticky webs, sharp needles, and poisonous mist all launched simultaneously at them. Ira's flames bellowed out, scorching scores of insects and wasps with a single breath, incinerating many projectiles while her shield absorbed the rest.

'Do it,' Atlas's voice resonated in her mind, and Myra finally reached for the power she had kept contained.

In mere seconds, the hot, scorching sun was blotted out by a red mist, and her dark skin turned shimmering red. Her black hair became translucent, and ruby eyes shone through.

"Fly North! There is a gate not far from here!"

When Myra spoke, her voice resembled Selena's. Countless voices, some wailing, some angry, all overlapped her own in a horrifying cacophony.

Xag, who could hardly believe what he was seeing, shrieked in terror from his domain as he realized how dire the situation had become. He had no creature that could best a Demigod, let alone an Eldritch Demigod.

To solidify his nightmare, the blood-red mist that hovered above and blotted out the sun descended upon his beloved insects. Their agitated movements, their salivating anticipation for a feast—all vanished as their bodies crumpled.

Their innards evaporated, and all that remained were exoskeletons. A desert filled with thousands of corpses. Some were even among those who had received Xag's divine blessings and had pursued Myra and Ira.

"A terrifying sight. You could have annihilated their forces alone, Myra," Ira rumbled in compliment, but Myra sighed tiredly.

"No... that took too much out of me. Even with the essence I absorbed, it'll take time for me to recover."

Her red mist form slowly evaporated and she returned to her dark elf form, clutching onto Ira's back in exhaustion.

Around them, fresh forces still mindlessly charged forward. While their numbers were greatly diminished, this was still a dangerous situation as Ira took evasive action again, heading toward the northern gate she mentioned.

"Hold on tight, soft-skin!"

-----------------

Black ichor exploded outward in every direction as Selena stumbled forward in screaming agony. Her giant, gnarled, twisted hand crushed scores as it landed and flailed through the hordes of monsters.

Selena, the Eldritch Abomination, was beginning to die.

She was less than a hundred meters from the gate, and her body could no longer produce enough spawn to deal with the remaining insects.

The dragonfly-type creatures, which used the babies on her back for their next spawn, only provided fresh essence for her to create new creatures. The insects of Xag's world, even those with his Primordial gene, were lesser than those on An-Ki.

Within seconds, black dragonflies emerged, and malformed, black-streaked sand-ants and sand-termites broke free, but against the enhanced enemy, they were easily dispatched.

"My children… but I was so close to revenge…"

"So close to revenge… so close…"

Her gnarled hand reached out as her form collapsed before the gate, her wails echoing while the insects tore into her. Some were even suicidal enough to jump inside her massive body to rip at her before dying.

"This is the end, my children. I am sorry…"

"Sorry, mommy…"

As her twisted mind began to fade, a black mist suddenly rose from the ground and enveloped her body.

"Is this a wise idea, Weaver Atlas?" Wisp's voice echoed skeptically. "To use your last divinity to heal a world catastrophe instead of aiding Myra?"

"Selena doesn't have sight of Myra anymore," Atlas answered confidently. "She only knows she's in that portal, in the world beyond. She will scour the world and massacre the enemy to find her."

Atlas smiled and tapped his fingers against the console.

"Xag's world can be her playground until the next Weaver War."

Renewed screams echoed across the battlefield from Selena.

"Why won't you let me die?!"

"Let her die!"

"This is your fault!"

"Let us die after this, please?"

"Please, Tenebris!"

Selena's body bubbled like a boiling pot. Dozens of renewed pustule sacks burst open, and a fresh horde of maddened creatures dropped from her like a pot boiling over.

Instead of rising again to her standing form, however, she screamed violently, and her body lunged forward across the ground with terrifying speed. She moved like a crab, breaking through the portal in less than five seconds and leaving a trail of monsters behind her.

The remaining forces from Xag were dwindling, and becoming smaller every second.

Xag, terrified and pulling at his antennae, screamed, "No! That was my prize! My precious swarm, my essence!"

Still sprinting at a speed that far surpassed even Ira, her monstrous form moved miles inside and climbed up a butte. With deafening booms, her hands slammed into it and dug into the rock beneath.

Her body expanded, still spilling forth monsters in endless scores, only faster now as her core body became a giant pulsating mass of amorphous flesh. Her outer skin was still like before, with smaller black bubbles moving in and out in waves and giving life to monsters.

What happened next, however, stunned both Xag and Atlas.

The outlying edges of her body became smooth like black tar and highly viscous. It spread out, while the majority of her body remained atop the butte without shrinking.

Morphing. Spreading. Covering every surface with no hint of slowing down. Every pillar, hoodoo, and sandstone spire became its own nest, lined with bubbling pustule sacks. Some popped, revealing goblins or insects, and were quickly replaced by a new one ready to hatch.

"Holy shit," Atlas breathed. "She's making the land her own!"

"Do you see that?!" Atlas couldn't help but point with shock. He knew it could happen, and even hoped for it, but still wasn't ready to see it when it began.

From her core body, now surrounded by hundreds of meters of black ichor, a Primordial Dragon with a completely smooth body and ruby red eyes burst forth. Then another. And another.

"This is the end of me!" Xag screamed, collapsing in despair in his control room with despairing chitters. "Stop this! Spare my larvae!"

Xag's Weaver assistant, with its oversized fly body and compound eyes, froze in place. Its body locked up and began to glow.

"Disappointing."

Meanwhile Atlas paled, completely unaware of this.

"Ah, fuck."

Her domain spread farther and farther with the horde of Primordials, dragonfly-type, dragons, and every other species she had consumed, growing in number.

"Wisp...? Please tell me I've won so I can close off this world… Wisp?"

He watched the horde spread. Devouring, massacring all forms of life, and expanding her domain. Within a minute, he was certain her forces would reach the gates and create an entirely new problem.

"Patience, Weaver Atlas. You must think calmly about your reward."

"We have a bit of a problem if I don't decide quickly!"
