The early afternoon sun filtered into Cael's office, casting long shadows across his desk. He hadn't moved for almost an hour. His mother's words from the meeting kept echoing in his mind like a broken tape recorder.
"You're not her true mate… and even if you are, we can't tell because her wolf is locked."
"I need you to be the typical you for once. Lead with logic, not your heart."
Cael leaned back in his chair, head tilted to the ceiling.
Logic.
That word that used to be his bane of existence, his creed and law, now felt like an heavy weight to him.
Everything inside him was screaming to run to Elisa, to explain, to hold her. Gods, he missed the way he felt utterly at peace and happy with her.
He let out a tired sigh and rubbed his eyes.
But then he thought of the so called prophecy... the supposed power and gift. And worst of all... what might happen if she were not completely certain and she was mated.
