Chapter 25 - Failure

"HAHAHA! Just give up Spirit, maybe then I will give you a quick death!" The masked man ridiculed with his broken voice.

Tilldoor stood up once more, his lack of Spirituality was evident to him, his muscles had started to decay.

TIlldoor needed to do something quick! He would either die to the Night, or the mysterious masked man if hadn't.

And dying would mess up his chances of being a hero.

He attacked 4 more times, each time leading to a failure.

As Tilldoor went to attack the still masked man again, the black haired guy that he crashed into suddenly went into help.

Bang!

The masked man had actually been shaken a bit! Tilldoor was happy they actually did something.

The masked man looked towards Orm, and let out a Tsk sound from underneath his paper bag.

Bam!

Orm was knocked towards the ground. Some of the blue roads beneath their feet had been smashed. Orm was bleeding from his head.

"No!" Tildoor desperately shouted. What was he supposed to do now?

That guy had been easily beat. Tilldoor had to do something. But what was something?

Bang!

Tilldoor got smacked towards the nearest building.

Was there anything he could do?

The masked man seemed more aggressive than before, he dragged the still down Tilldoor to the road, and stomped on him.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

"Rejoice. This is the best Spirits like you deserve."

A cold feeling enclosed Tilldoor, it was unbearable. It was slient and powerfull.

Was there anything he could do?

Why was life always like this? He would always mess up, fail, or humiliate himself in some way. Tildoor always just had to get up from it; he would always try his best not fall behind. But his best was just never enough.

In any actually serious thing he would be nervous and fail. And he himself knew that acting was never the character he wanted. He wanted to be a hero that his granny always talked about when he was a kid.

But could he ever? Was there anything he could do?

Tildoor was lucky that he at least had Alita, Eye, Oliver, Isabella, and even the newbie Emma supporting him.

He realized something, if he had no one, he wouldn't be alive. He wouldn't even win in the small things. Tilldoor felt a bit of light in the cold that covererd his heart.

Thud.

"You are a failure of a Spirit. It was fun to see you realize your disgusting self and give up." The masked man laughed. It was another in this ugly world that was tamed by him.

why wouldn't he be happy?

The masked man kicked Tilldoor a meter away from him.

Tilldoor thought to himself deeply on the cold floor, what was his Agony? That was the only thing that was holding him back from becoming a Wanderer. If one wanted to become a Wanderer all you had to do was reach the near end of level 3, and in the words of Alita, "Know your Agony's true face."

He always considererd himself someone who had a fated Agony, but he hadn't exactly known what it was. What was he?

"I really thought you had some fight in you."

Tilldoor remained quiet. The cold had nearly completely eaten the small light he had left.

"I can't believe it! This would be my first strong willed spirit that I conquererd. I tamed you monster, now the rest awaits." The masked man ranted.

Was there anything he could?

The air felt heavier, words that came from no where started to chant around Tilldoor's nearly compteltey decayed body.

'No. There is nothing I can do.'

The cold had eaten his light.

"I will always fail. I will never see the reward of hard work. I will forever be in the shadow of succes. Thats what your face looks like, dosent it Agony?" TIlldoor shouted manically, this was the only way out of his problems, to become a Wanderer himself.

He wished he got it wrong about his Agony. Maybe the light will return?

"What?" The masked man asked in confusion. Was he talking about him?

"It proably wont return though. I will never win, even against myself." Tilldoor shouted once more. Tears fell from his face, but he continued to shout, hoping that this was wrong. But he knew it wasn't.

"I will never be a hero. I'm sorry granny."

Tears fell from his like rivers. He now fully believed himself, whats the point of him trying anymore.

"Tssssss." Tilldoor heard a broken televison sound from his ears. Was this what Alita talked about to him?

He felt his body chaging, it hurt, but it felt blissful at the same time.

His decaying body had returned to normal.

And then it was over. Tilldoor felt way stronger. This was the acculamtion of all his hard work, the first step of his goal he was looking for.

But it didnt feel like that. It felt like he failed, like this was nothing, it had no meaning to him anymore.

There was nothing he could, but for some reason a tiny, tiny part of him still wanted to try. It wanted to prove this Agony wrong. There was a way to success for him, he just had to find it somehow. He could defeat Agony.

The cold in his heart had changed once again. It wasn't light, but it wasn't the same cold. It felt weak, but strong. His heart was suffocating, but it wasn't drowning in the cold. This was perseverance. against all odds, even himself. Tilldoor still wished to try.

There was something he could do.

Crunch.

The masked man crunched something that was in hands, after he saw Tilldoor was becoming a Wanderer. He really thought he finally tamed a tough one, now he had to use what that ugly woman left for him. It was the only one he had left, but he wasn't going to be stingy about. He knew that he could very much lose here.

Maybe he should've been more focused. All of this could've been avoided then. Oh well, at least he got some fun out of it.

Thud.

A headless body fell to the floor. Blood immediately filled the area of the road the body stood in.

Orm had finally woken up, he hadn't known how long he was out.

But as soon as he woke up he saw it. Tilldoor had been killed. The masked man had done it.

Orm felt his lungs shrinking. Tilldoor had died. He wanted to sleep again. To let a different outcome play when he woke up.

But, no matter how much he wanted to ignore it, Tilldoor failed to survive.
