Chapter 35 - 35. Changing times

–– Observer POV ––

Clara Ali Ollivander's actions always had monumental impacts. While some would say, that she did not realize that, they could not be more wrong. Clara is intelligent, well any Ollivander is if I am being honest, so she would notice the impact of her choices, whims and schemes before they could even play out.

But that was not the weird, scary thing. No, she was more intelligent than even most Ollivanders, though she thought of it as normal. She always was like this and would always be like it. It was just her daily life.

One small action, which disrupted her relaxing time on new year's eve, felt like divine intervention to Sirius Black. He was treated, could for the first time in over 15 years relax, not needing to look out for hexes, assassins, political conspiracy or anything else, just deeply relaxing, sometimes meditating and slowly getting better.

Having one of the best healers in Britain and an accomplished and respected mind healer to boot, was just the cherry on top. They fixed him right up, from a scrawny disheveled man to a fit, sound by mind man, who had relearned patience. They had done so much for him and he did not know how to repay them.

That was one of the few things still plaguing him. Another was guilt, having failed his duty as Harry's godfather and as a good friend of James Potter and Lily Evans Potter. He had failed everything he held dear, losing most of the same. His parents, his adoptive parents, his whole family, his best friends, his colleagues and so much more.

It was made even worse through Henry Flacks assistance. He remembered everything, his occlumency having for the first time starting to fulfill his potential, talent in the art. He relived every detail, any telltale signs, discrepancies, everything on repeat, replaying his whole live over and over again, searching for ways that he could have changed things. The Prewett's deaths, Longbottoms fate, Bones families destruction, his families split.

He found ways, hundred and thousands of ways, but all were only possible due to his future knowledge from a later point in time. He found three things, that he could have changed. Not shirking the responsibility of being the Potters secret keeper, not chasing after Peter Pettigrew that fateful night and sending Severus Snape into the shrieking shack on a full moon night, fully knowing that Lupin would transform there.

He had read any and al newspapers he could get his hands on while in askaban, most months if not years old sometimes. Through that he knew, that Severus Snape survived the war, even in his perilous situation as double agent. He also knew what happened after, from Severus getting a position as potion's professor at Hogwarts, to his induction as slytherin head of house and even to his run in with Clara Ali Ollivander, though her name was not revealed in the newspaper article.

But who else would it be if not that weird small girl, who seemed to just skip around Hogwarts, while changing the fates of thousands, if not millions? Hogwarts alone seemed so much more vibrant than before, though he could only look out of his window. At the start, he did not have one, until Henry insisted that it would help in his healing, so Hogwarts reluctantly added one. It was probably the heaviest warded window of the whole castle, but he would not complain.

For the whole week he had been at Hogwarts, he had begged to speak with her again, hoping to pay of at least one of his outstanding debts and he succeeded. He now owed a pure favor to Clara, sworn on his magic with no conditions or strings attached. She could force him into servitude for all he cared, it would not be bad to serve people of those powers. He even offered Clara exactly that and more, for a single promise, to help Severus Snape out of his current predicament.

–– Clara POV ––

I was annoyed, first being coaxed by Henry and then persuaded by Mr. Black to help him pay of a past debt. So I visited the hospital, being escorted to Snape's room, an auror in front, one of the few who knew what really happened: „So, came to finish him off? I cannot allow that sadly", he joked. I brushed him off: „Quite the contrary, though unwilling", I said, before entering the room, wasting no more time before diving into Snape's mind.

It had changed during the time of his coma, fragmenting more, getting unstable. I pushed in a piece of mental energy inside, his own fighting mine, until it realized that I was flicking his mind, though in a very rudimentary way. And after a while, Snape's consciousness came back, out of the shell his mental core was. He started to talk, before I interrupted: „I am not here to talk with you. You now have a choice. I have a contract drafted, that you will never again use the mind arts against any other person. If you break that contract, you will die. You can either promise me to sign it, before I wake you up, after which I will not press any charges and tell the aurors, that you never used legilimency on any other student than me or you refuse and I will just leave you as you are. Decide, now", I ordered, having learned a bit about this way of talking: „I will take that contract. But why the change of heart?", he inquired and accepted the proposition, though he was anything but pleased by it.

I did not answer yet, first waking him up from his coma, he sitting up straight in the bed, breathing heavily, before I promptly gave him the contract, which he signed without looking, detailing both secrecy about our dealings and his new vow and shackle. I turned to leave the room, before deciding to answer his question: „No change of heart. I did not and never will care about someone like you. Mr. Black though needed to pay of an incurred debt to you, after he had sent you straight into the maws of a transformed werewolf. If you want to thank anyone, it would be him, if you ask me but he said that I should say that he doesn't need your thanks nor forgiveness. He only needs closure, which he now has. Live a good life, Severus Snape. And never forget, that your arch enemy is the reason you have it." I left, only giving the auror a signed statement, that I would not press charges and that to my knowledge, Severus Snape had only used legilimency on any student but me, though I did not tell him the reason for it. The aurors would naturally do their own investigation, possibly a questioning with veritaserum, commonly known as truth potion.

The reason in the end was just plain curiosity. As bad as his mastery over the mind arts was, he still had the passive sense to be able to categorize others mastery, though a very rough and untrained version. He had apparently never seen a mind such as mine and wanted to investigate, which backfired heavily on him.

Curiosity killed the cat.

–– Observer POV ––

The questioning under veritaserum came to be, Severus Snape being released out of custody the same afternoon, though he was set on a watchlist on madam Bones protest, some swearing to have heard her curse: „That weird girl, always messing with my department!"

The public never heard about his release until years later, as at the same time the combined might of Dumbledore, Slughorn and the Ollivanders, who reclaimed their Wizengamot seat, initiated a prompt retrial for SIrius Black, the testimony of Peter Pettigrew and gringotts copy of his godfather oath being unmistakeable evidence to his innocence. Fudge only got the news on the next day, his faction only getting called in for an emergency session of the Wizengamot, with no extra information. This way, none of them could stop the show from happening, Sirius black being proven innocent in his long overdue trial, the dementors recalled to askaban, Hogwarts finally free of their effects.

What followed was a nationwide shitstorm for months, retrials for any inmates in askaban, who had not had a trial before and so much more. The ministry lost the control over the newspapers, a slew of death eaters were convicted, many more less serious crimes being revealed and consequently trialed. There was a lot of dirt to drag up and that journalists did. No more censure and propaganda, just the plain truth, Fudge having no chance to win the next election.

Protected by all that chaos, Sirius took back his heirship and subsequent lordship of house black, fixing up their outstanding debts, repairing houses and manors and also starting to court the love of his live, his soulmate apparently, though it did not look too good right now due to multiple problematic factors.

The first meeting between godfather and godson started with uncertainty and ended with many many tears, a close bond slowly blossoming over the next years. No more Dursleys for Harry too. Using his money productively, Sirius anonymously funded an orphanage network, which hoped to be a save place for magical orphans, while also searching the whole of Britain if not the world if they had the manpower, for mistreated magical children and animals, such as Harry Potter.

In his capacity as Harry Potters godfather and current guardian, Sirius Black also started suing the hell out of any products who used Harry's name, shutting them done permanently and buying up most merchandise in circulation, before burning them in a huge pyre, though that was not publicly known.

On the forefront of these lawsuits was Ted Tonks, new lawyer of house Black, husband of Andromeda Tonks nee Black, who was invited to rejoin the family Black together with her family, no longer being outcast due to her choice of husband. She obviously accepted after a bit of persuasion by lord Black (a tearful hug).

All of this only possible due to the intervention of a weird little girl, who merely skipped around Hogwarts, most thinking her none the wiser, the pride and elation from her actions for hers, only hers, to bear.
