Weaving through the sea of tents, Shem had his thoughts preoccupied. It's strange how often an individual can get used to loud noises. The occasional gunfire far away from their location melting away from the forefront of his mind. But, that was not what he was focused on; rather, he was deliberating what they would do once they got out of the tent.
'It's obvious we can't trust the military anymore, so now what?
We can't keep trekking it with the bike either.'
Further considering his predicament the ringing noise of bullets grew louder, closer urging both of the siblings to move faster through the neat rows of tents, though it was hard considering they had to move diagonally, something that the tent setup was not good for.
Still though, it was not a long journey until they reached the edge of the large circus tent. Shem's face held a look of surprise over the fact that no interruptions or unfortunate hindrances arose. But it's not like he would complain.
Taking the win, both siblings inspected the tent edge, a thin piece of fabric that kept the wind out.
'Another win! It's not even attached to the ground, all we have to do is crawl out.'
No words needed to be exchanged between the two as Lorey went first, crawling under the tent carefully. The ground below was clean, green grass. 'No need to worry about my clothes or getting dirty as well.' He thought, lightly chuckling to himself. Following Lorey underneath, Shem got his first glimpse of the sun in what felt like ages. It shined down on him with its normal, intense glare like any day, as if an entire apartment complex worth of people were not brutalized.
Sighing Shem looked around, trees gleamed in the morning sun and dew was present on the grass. The gunfire could still be heard in the background, but had faded into the occasional pop, just like the last few kernels of popcorn in a microwave.
Shem flinched as he looked towards the bench across and off to the left of him.
'Shit, poor guy.'
A person sleeping on the bench, presumably a homeless person, lay in a sleeping position, one arm splayed off the bench while the other hugged a blanket close to their body. The unusual sight came from their legs, both of them in fact had been separated from his body, blood slowly oozing from the wound into a sizable pool underneath his corpse.
Seeing his gaze, Lorey turned towards the sight before taking his hand in hers once more.
"Come on, let's move."
Leading him forwards, Lorey guided him away from the circus tent, into the park for a few hundred meters before turning to head towards where they parked the bike. Even though they would need a different vehicle, they still needed to get far away from here.
Surprisingly, they did not come across any more dead people during their odyssey through the park, only silence, but even that faded with the absence of gunshots. Soon, birdsong filled their ears, snapping them out of their focus.
Reaching the motorcycle, both siblings didn't have their helmets, but that didn't matter in their minds, all they wanted to do was get away from the park as fast as possible. They mounted the bike quickly, same as always-Lorey driving and Shem behind. But before they could ride off, both siblings heard running and looked back, it was Corvo.
