Chapter 21 - Night Action

At noon, during rest time, in the Training Camp dormitory, Liens lay on his bed and entered the instance.

By judging the time Wooly and the others left the dormitory, Liens continuously adjusted the start time of the instance and finally found the exact moment Wooly and his group began their actions last night.

"Take me with you."

Liens reached out and grabbed Wooly, who was just about to get up from his bed, and whispered to him.

In the darkness, Wooly turned his gaze to Liens, feeling a bit confused, but he couldn't engage in a question-and-answer conversation with Liens there at that moment.

It was better to leave the dormitory first.

So Wooly quietly led Liens out of the dormitory. They walked to a spot not far from the dormitory, where many people had already gathered.

Wendell and a few others from their dormitory should also be there, as Liens had seen their beds empty before leaving.

This spot was in a dark corner between the buildings, much dimmer than the open areas illuminated by moonlight, making it difficult for people to see them hiding there.

There were many such places in the Training Camp, so it wasn't conspicuous.

After arriving there, Wooly pulled Liens aside and quietly asked him, "What exactly are you thinking?"

"I probably know what you guys want to do, so I want to join too," Liens responded softly.

"You know?! What do you know?!"

"Do you know that if we fail, we might all die?"

"Do you know that even if we succeed, many of us will die in the process?"

"This is an action with a very high chance of death, do you know that?"

Wooly was somewhat agitated, but he still tried his best to control himself and keep his voice low.

He didn't want Liens to die like this, because Liens was the "tombstone" he had found for himself.

Wooly also wanted to live well, as his father's last words instructed, but he knew that people couldn't avoid death; it was only a matter of time.

Now he had "cowardly" chosen death, but he still hoped that someone living would remember him, remember their family.

Would that also count as a form of "living" for him?

"Even if I don't participate in this action and thus survive by clinging to life."

"But in the future, can I really keep clinging to life through training?"

"You know, we've only been in this Training Camp for 7 days, and the training intensity has already started to increase."

"If we get through this time, when will the next increase be? To what extent will it increase? And the time after that, and the time after that?"

"Graduation is nowhere in sight; can I really make it through?"

"And by then, if I find myself unable to hold on, what should I do?"

"Now, at least, it's still an opportunity. If there are enough people, there's always hope of escaping."

Liens responded to Wooly, not only trying to persuade Wooly but also expressing some of his own confusion about the future.

Even with his instance ability, he didn't know if he could survive until graduation.

No one knew what the future held, and that uncertainty drove Liens to constantly strive and work hard.

Hearing Liens's words, Wooly also fell silent. He, too, had joined this action for the same reason.

And what right did he have to interfere with Liens's choice?

In this situation, it was both Liens's choice and his, Wooly's, choice.

It was just that he had previously thought highly of Liens, believing he might survive, but he didn't expect that the person he thought highly of didn't think highly of his own chances.

"Sigh…"

Wooly sighed helplessly and said no more.

Then, Liens and Wooly stood silently in place, waiting for the arrival of others.

The wait wasn't too long. With a voice, the operation officially began.

"No one else should be coming. Let's start."

It was a rather deep voice. Because the light was dim, Liens couldn't see who had spoken.

Then, one by one, people successively exited the dark corner.

"Since you've decided to participate in this action, I'll explain our plan to you."

Wooly didn't rush out but waited until the others had left before explaining to Liens.

"Because time was too tight, we couldn't prepare a detailed plan, but there was no other way, as many people couldn't hold on any longer."

"Moreover, the later it gets, the worse everyone's condition will be, which would greatly reduce the success rate of a direct assault."

"Our plan is very simple: first, someone will sneak to the gate and try to open the Training Camp's main gate."

"If he succeeds, he will return and tell everyone. If he fails and is discovered, he will loudly make a 'woo' sound to warn everyone."

"At that point, those who want to force their way out can take the risk and break through together, while those who don't want to risk it can choose to sneak away."

"Of course, if he doesn't make any sound for a long time, it's the same choice."

"You can continue to take the risk, or you can choose to leave."

Wooly explained their simple plan to Liens, which basically relied on everyone's self-awareness.

No wonder Wooly said this was an action with a very high chance of death; this was probably the funeral he had prepared for himself.

After explaining, Wooly carefully led Liens to a dark corner of a building near the gate.

Although Liens didn't see the others, he figured everyone must have arrived in their own way and were carefully hiding nearby.

Waiting and waiting…

As a "woo-woo" sound, distinct from the Training Camp's horn, rang out, Liens knew the moment of decision had arrived.

He didn't hesitate, quickly rushed out of the shadowy corner, and ran towards the gate.

Wooly did the same.

Everyone did the same; at that moment, figures from all directions ran towards the gate.

Liens was not the first to reach the gate. When Liens arrived, someone was already using his body to confront the guard's iron sword.

Bright red blood flowed from that not-so-strong body, and that splash of red was particularly striking under the pale moonlight.

The person whose body was pierced didn't fall down in pain; instead, he frantically hugged the guard, preventing the guard from pulling out the sword.

The others used their hands and feet to surround the disarmed guard, as if retaliating for the guards' constant beatings during training.

This scene didn't happen in just one place, because there wasn't just one guard.

Shouts, screams, cries…

All sorts of sounds mixed into a chaotic noise that spread into the distance.

Liens ran to a man lying on the ground with a guard's long sword stuck in him, wanting to pull out the long sword.

The man lying on the ground, his eyes already glazed over from excessive blood loss, perhaps sensed Liens's intention and said to him in a weak voice:

"Brother, pull it out. Use this sword to kill a few more of those sons of bitches."

After speaking, it seemed to stimulate the wound, and more fresh blood gushed from the pierced area, followed by blood vomit ing from his mouth.

Liens didn't hesitate. He pulled out the long sword, and at that instant, the blocked blood spurted out, staining a large area of the ground red.

"Friend, I sincerely hope you can escape. At least that will prove…" that we weren't doing something useless.

With the massive loss of blood, his last words remained unspoken.

However, his words were meant only for himself, as Liens rushed into the melee the moment he pulled out the long sword.

Relying on his decent swordsmanship, Liens took down the surrounded guards one by one with a single sword stroke.

Since there weren't many guards to begin with, Liens and his group quickly dealt with all the guards defending the gate.

There was no time to celebrate, nor time to tend to the wounded brothers.

Because everyone knew that the commotion here would quickly attract guards from other areas, and even the instructors.

They quickly came to the front of the gate, wanting to combine everyone's strength to break open the gate and escape.

Just as Liens and his group were about to use their long swords to destroy the wooden gate, a thin light screen appeared on the gate, blocking their sword swings.

The appearance of this scene stunned everyone present; no one could understand the principle behind it.

Many thought of "magic," but thinking of it didn't mean they had a way to solve it.

Unwilling to give up, everyone raised their long swords again and continuously attacked the gate, but no matter how they attacked, the light screen showed no signs of disappearing.

Was this the reason the instructor said, "They will definitely not succeed"?

Liens thought of what the instructor had said that morning.

"It's useless. With your strength, you cannot break through this magic barrier."

A voice sounded, one that was very familiar to everyone present: the instructor's voice.

Rewind time a bit.

At that time, Liens and his group were surrounding the guards.

Meanwhile, in another part of the Training Camp, the instructor and the cultural studies teacher were conversing in a room.

Before them was a crystal ball "broadcasting" the situation at the Training Camp gate.

"Marvin, have the side effects of the potions you formulate increased? It hasn't even been 10 days, and someone already wants to escape."

The instructor looked at Marvin, who had gray hair and wore glasses, with a slightly meaningful gaze and said.

"Alchemy potions can sometimes vary from person to person, and the family wants to lower costs. What can I do? I can only adjust the formula of the Stamina Potion."

"It's good enough if the new formula has the original effect. More side effects are normal; at most, it just slightly affects the brain, making people prone to extremes."

Noticing the instructor's gaze, Marvin still explained calmly, then turned his attention back to the crystal ball.

Seeing the "broadcast" screen change, Marvin reminded the instructor, "Hmm… it seems your soldiers have been killed. Those Slaves are quite capable."

The instructor also saw this scene, and he said with some dissatisfaction, "Useless. Holding long swords, yet they can't even kill some Slaves. What a disgrace."

"Forget it, I'll handle it!"
