Kai's POV
Marie Kinney smelled like steel polish and cinnamon.
It wasn't creepy that I inhaled her scent, was it?
Because I expected judgment and insults from the Luna instead in twist that shocked my entire body, I found myself crushed against her like I was the best thing to have happened to the world since sliced bread.
"Kai, right? Bronc's hasty call to me was dreadful—all jargon and moping. But he mentioned your eyes!" She leaned back, grinning. "Said they're the color of a storm. Perfect for this family."
"Call?" I shot Jack a look. His ears flushed red.
I didn't know he called home to tell his mother about me. I wondered what he said. Or what Luna might have heard about me.
Perhaps, she found out that I caused the Gala to come to a scandalous end when her son was forced to defend me.
I needed to explain.
