The purple and blue lightning bolts collided in the sky, producing a deafening roar.
In this world, there is no such thing as "the left side always loses in wave battles." The purple lightning unleashed by Durnehviir was stronger and gradually suppressed the blue light, gaining the upper hand.
As the two dragons flew closer, just as the purple lightning was about to strike Odahviing, Wright stood on the dragon's head and, seizing the opportunity, unleashed a mighty dragon roar from his mouth. The soundwave struck Durnehviir's head, knocking it off course and tearing away a large chunk of flesh. The purple lightning spat from its mouth also shifted direction, creating a long, straight line in the air.
Seeing this, Odahviing took a deep breath and released all the blue lightning, directing it all towards the green dragon's body.
The scorched flesh continued to peel away as the giant dragon moved through the air, and half of Durnehviir's head was left in bones. However, it showed no signs of pain, continuing its ferocious movements. As it flew past Odahviing, it bit fiercely, tearing away a piece of bloody flesh.
Wright swung his great sword with all his might, sending blood-red sword energy into the giant dragon's body, leaving multiple gashes. Some of them were blocked by its tough bones.
At the same time, the magical runes on Odahviing's body triggered an explosion, the shockwave directly deflecting Durnehviir's head. After a brief descent, it flapped its wings and quickly caught up.
The two dragons passed each other in mid-air, only to turn around and charge again. After undergoing Wright's specialized training, Odahviing was more agile in the air and quickly aimed its head at the green dragon: "Krii~~Lun~~Aus~~" Dragon's South: Marked for Death, which drastically reduced the target's defense.
Durnehviir had just turned in the air when it saw a magical attack coming its way. Realizing it couldn't avoid it, it opened its mouth and disappeared in an instant, reappearing in front of Odahviing's left side, shooting a blast of purple dragon flame.
"Whirlwind Sprint," a technique that allows the user to rapidly advance a short distance.
"It sure knows a lot! But Odahviing knows it too!" Wright muttered as the purple dragon flame approached.
Odahviing used the same dragon language magic, making its body teleport a short distance and crashing heavily into the green dragon's back. The two dragons began wrestling mid-air, biting and clawing as they fell.
"Ha! Ah! Ah! Ah!" Wright seized the opportunity to leap onto Durnehviir's back, slashing wildly with his sword.
The two dragons tumbled down through the clouds, with Wright's various magic spells exploding on the green dragon's back. Chunks of flesh were blown away. As they neared the ground, the two dragons immediately separated and flew off in opposite directions. Wright used his Mage Hand to grab Odahviing's head and returned to the dragon's back.
Wright placed his hand on the dragon's scales and cast a healing spell, looking at the green dragon from afar, its bones exposed and leaking wind. He spoke to the dragon under him: "At this rate, we'll never win. Even if we tear all its flesh off, it can still keep fighting with just a skeleton!"
"Then hurry and think of something!" Odahviing didn't have time to say more before resuming the magical battle with Durnehviir.
The magic exchanged between the two dragons lit up the sky: blue thunderstorms, golden-red fire meteors, purple lightning, and ice crystals that exploded and reflected light, changing the color of the night sky. Sometimes they teleported through the air, chasing each other in long lightning streaks; other times, they engaged in close combat, tearing at each other's flesh.
Amidst the chaos, a glowing humanoid figure leaped between the two dragons, launching blood-red crescent moons that flew out, surrounded by various multi-colored magical attacks on the green dragon.
Flashes of lightning and thunder filled the air as magic exploded, accompanied by the roars of the dragons and humans. The two combatants, sometimes plummeting from the clouds, sometimes shooting upward through the sky, at other times slamming into the ground, flattened small hills with just a few moves, with debris and dust flying everywhere.
Wright made a mistake. When jumping back onto Odahviing's head, he was slightly slower and was bitten by Durnehviir.
"Ah!"
One of Wright's legs was caught in the dragon's teeth, and he used his hands to brace against the jaw, pushing with all his might to try to break free. Durnehviir, having grabbed Wright, spiraled in flight. The sky and ground spun uncontrollably, and Wright couldn't discern up from down.
The red-white giant dragon quickly approached, biting the green dragon's neck in an attempt to force it to release Wright, but the green dragon ignored the attack, focused solely on killing Wright.
The force of the dragon's jaws was enormous, and the speed at which it closed was terrifying. Wright knew that if he tried to jump free, he'd be caught. Seeing the purple magic gathering in its throat, Wright immediately shouted: "To the sea!"
The two dragons, still locked in a mid-air struggle, flew over a small mountain. Their wings shattered the mountain peak, and their tails dug deep trenches in the flat plains before soaring upward.
Wright braced against the giant jaws, shouting a Dragon Soul Tear, while Odahviing seized the opportunity to grab its wings and bite its skull. The two dragons, with Wright, slammed into the sea west of Meeren, creating a splash hundreds of meters high, mixed with steaming hot dragon blood.
The sky and ground finally calmed, but the battle continued beneath the sea.
Will translate this in the next message.
Wright used every magic at his disposal: Bend Will, Marked For Death, and Unrelenting force.
The Bend Will spell had already been broken. If it was cast again, it only made the green dragon's consciousness fall into a short slumber for less than a second. Before Wright could control it, the effect wore off.
The Marked For Death, which could significantly weaken defenses, had little effect on it. The green dragon's body had already perished; its power came from its soul, not its muscles and bones.
The only magic that had any effect was the Unrelenting force. However, underwater, where the water weakened its power, Wright used it to counter the magic sprayed from the dragon's mouth.
A large amount of seawater began to freeze, forming massive icebergs at the joints of Durnehviir's head and body. It realized that the cold magic was effective underwater, and it unleashed icy dragon flames from its mouth at Wright.
The direct destructive power of the icy dragon flames was smaller, but its limiting effect was greater. Wright took the hit head-on, breaking free from the dragon's mouth.
His dragonbone leg armor on the right leg had been bitten into pieces. Wright tore it off and began healing the wound. The deeper they went into the sea, the darker it became, and large sheets of ice appeared on the bodies of the two dragons. Occasionally, Durnehviir unleashed lightning bolts, which were immediately absorbed by the seawater, indiscriminately attacking both dragons and Wright. Durnehviir didn't care!
Wright, using his ice spear combined with wind magic, made it spin rapidly, and with a single strike, it shredded the green dragon's flesh, leaving a two-meter-wide hole in its body.
The previously calm sea surged violently. Icebergs rose from the seabed, emerging onto the scalding-hot Slaves' Bay waters. Occasionally, flashes of light from the seabed illuminated the translucent icebergs.
Bang!
The red-white giant dragon, dragging red seawater, shot straight up from the surface and flew into the air, golden magical energy flowing to the wounds on its body.
Whoosh~~
On the coast, a giant dragon, barely hanging on to a bit of flesh, now a mere skeleton, slowly crawled onto the shore. The seawater on its body turned black, and when it fell to the ground, it resembled black sludge, no longer soaking into the sand but sticking together. The massive skeletal dragon head raised, with purple soul fire in its eye sockets, glaring angrily at the giant dragon in the sky.
Wright needed to heal both Odahviing and himself. He had no immediate plan to fight Durnehviir again, as he couldn't come up with an effective counter.
Durnehviir took this opportunity to break the Dragon Soul Tear, allowing itself to soar back into the sky.
"Odahviing, fire is most effective against undead creatures, but it's too large and strong. Our fire won't cause much damage!" Wright said, gripping the dragon's horn and gazing at the huge skeletal structure on the ground.
"What about other attacks?" Odahviing circled around the skeletal structure in the sky.
"The Bend Will spell worked well the first time, but it barely had any effect the second time. It already broke the magic!" Wright said anxiously. The giant dragon's size made healing it require massive amounts of magical energy. Now, his own magic was nearly depleted, and only a little was left to ensure his survival.
"Then attack the soul!"
"Easy for you to say! There aren't many magic spells that can target the soul, and it's not just standing there like a fool waiting to be hit!" Wright thought for a moment and then came up with a plan. "Odahviing, you continue fighting it up close. It's now just a skeleton. I'll climb into its neck and attack beneath its skull!"
Odahviing didn't respond but immediately turned and began accelerating toward the ground, flapping its wings fiercely.
Another two massive spells collided. Odahviing helped block Durnehviir's magic. Bang! The red-white flesh dragon and the larger skeletal dragon began battling fiercely.
The skeletal dragon no longer had flesh to bite, so Odahviing could only bite and twist its bones, while it itself was constantly torn apart by the skeletal dragon's claws, spilling hot blood and flesh.
Wright wedged his great sword into the slot behind his armor, using Mage Hand with both hands to grab the giant bones, risking being thrown by the tremendous force. He pushed forward and soon reached below the skeletal dragon's skull.
Looking ahead, he saw the dragon's mouth opening. His vision quickly focused on Odahviing's skin, knowing the giant jaws would soon snap shut and tear away large pieces of flesh. Wright knew time was running out.
He felt the smooth, icy, and bone-chilling dragon bones above him. Blood for magic. Wright cast a basic alteration spell. A white magical light surrounded his body, and the rapidly depleting magical energy began to grow quickly, but his life force simultaneously diminished.
Wright started to feel dizzy. "Not enough!"
The white light grew brighter, and then blood began to seep from his wounds, turning into blue magic energy that flew back into his body.
"Not yet! Ha!" Wright yelled loudly.
Puff~ Puff~ Puff~
The wounds that once healed now burst open again. Large amounts of blood were drawn out and converted into magic energy.
Wright's body, glowing with white light, had a transparent dragon head emerge from his shoulder. Then, a second one shot out from his abdomen, followed by a third and fourth.
These were dragon souls absorbed by Wright. As his life neared its end, his control over them weakened. They began to regain simple awareness, like a desire to escape. The farther the ethereal dragon heads were from Wright's body, the larger they grew. Without bodies, the dragon heads created long light trails as they roared and struggled to break free from the weakened dragon bloodline's soul-binding force.
"Is this the right way to attack the soul?" Wright stopped casting spells, his limbs too weak, his vision a blur of white, and his consciousness barely coherent. All his focus now went into releasing the dragon souls.
Twenty-one dragon souls connected to Wright's body, their heads leaving behind white lines that spiraled around him, their roars causing him immense pain. These ethereal sounds attacked his very soul.
Wright fought to keep his awareness intact. Once he regained a flicker of clarity, he used his right hand to cast a low-level healing spell on himself.
"Die!" Wright opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
As Wright's life force waned, the dragon souls began to spin, trying to escape. But now, as Wright's life force revived, the pull from the souls began to draw them back.
With only simple awareness, the dragon souls began to experience a range of emotions—regret, anger, unwillingness. The ethereal souls stopped pulling in one direction and began to lash out, each head moving frantically.
The bones offered no resistance to them. One dragon head pierced the skull and bit down on the soul flame in Durnehviir's skull. The soul flame scorched the dragon soul, making it even more violent. The dragon's sharp teeth dug deep into the soul flame, piercing into Durnehviir's soul.
The soul flame spread along the dragon soul's body and onto Wright, making his soul begin to burn with pain.
"Ah!"
One by one, the dragon souls latched onto the soul flame.
This was the moment! Wright cast his most powerful healing spell on himself, and as his body quickly healed, he dashed out from under Durnehviir's jaw.
The dragon souls, still tethered to the soul flame, tightened their hold as Wright's vitality surged. The pressure grew stronger, and Wright, using all his might, clung to the dragon's jawbone.
"Odahviing!"
Hearing this, the red-white giant dragon took a hit, blood spraying from its neck. It bit into the skeletal dragon's jaw, snapping it shut, pulling Wright into its mouth. With all its strength, it tugged, ripping twenty-one strands of ethereal souls from the skull, including a purple soul flame.
AHG~~~
The skeletal dragon's roar was accompanied by the scream of its soul. It struggled in agony, releasing a final surge of magic, a triple-enhanced shockwave ready to burst.
Odahviing saw the impending danger and quickly turned, retreating.
Boom~
A massive explosion of magic blasted, sending Odahviing and Wright flying into the sky before crashing to the ground.
The explosion created a huge magical sphere in the valley. The shockwave radiated through the valley, shaking the ground. The impact spread over the sea, causing the water to boil and churn. The shockwave passed over Meereen, where all buildings, except the pyramid, were destroyed.
Sensing that Odahviing's tongue was still moving, Wright absorbed Durnehviir's soul into his body. Its soul was unique. The absorption process wasn't slow and gradual, like after normal death, but forceful, and it came with an overwhelming flood of knowledge. This sudden influx left Wright reeling. After touching his tongue and casting a high-level healing spell, he collapsed into unconsciousness.
Odahviing climbed to the top of a mountain, looking at the massive crater two kilometers wide. The central dragon bones had already shattered and scattered into pieces.
"The explosion wasn't even that powerful!" Odahviing spat Wright onto the ground. Noticing that Wright was still breathing, it lay down beside him to rest, waiting for him to wake up.
