The dim light of the small clinic cast uneven shadows on Carlos's sharply defined face.
"You've been on the move all day."
Carlos's voice was deep, "Go back and rest."
Yet Emily Parker had already pulled over a chair to sit down. Today, she was wearing a loose beige knit sweater, and her rounded belly cast a gentle curve under the light.
But her gaze was sharp as a knife,
"Carlos, we are husband and wife."
She looked up, her eyes staring straight into Carlos's,
"I don't want our child to bear a baseless crime from the moment they're born."
A tremor ran through Carlos's heart. Countless times in the past, whenever he faced various challenges, there was no one by his side. But now, Emily had reached out her fair hand and grasped his tightly.
"Okay."
In the end, he only managed to say one word, yet it carried more weight than any lavish vow.
The blue glow of the laptop screen illuminated their faces.
