Chapter 188 - Chapter 0188: The Flying-Type Master of Pallet Town

Kanto, Pallet Town.

Lush greenery and warm sunlight bathed the town, a place caressed by the winds of beginnings.

In a neatly arranged yard, a graceful woman hung out the laundry, wiping the sweat from her brow as she glanced up at the second-floor window.

"That Ash Ketchum… he's not oversleeping again, is he?"

Delia placed her hands on her hips and sighed. "Mr. Mime, could you go check on him, please?"

"Mr. Mime!" Mr. Mime saluted, leaving the broom aside and marching upstairs with its peculiar gait.

Knocking on the door with a series of thuds, there was no response.

Mr. Mime leaned against an invisible Light Screen, tapping on the door like it was playing a piano.

"Mr. Mime?!" (Still not awake?!)

At the same time, a loud thud echoed from inside the room, as if something had been thrown.

Mr. Mime's expression changed, and it instinctively covered its ears.

The next moment, a panicked scream came from the room.

"Ahhh!!! I'm gonna be late!!"

...

Ten minutes earlier.

A young boy lay sprawled on the bed, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.

A Pikachu was curled up adorably on the boy's stomach.

"Pikachu~~ Pikachu~~" Pikachu murmured in its sleep.

On the boy's bedside table, his mobile phone displayed a paused game screen.

From the joint production of Devon Corporation and Pokémon Studio—

The game was none other than the recently released Angry Pidove.

"Pikachu… Taillow's about to evolve… just two more levels…" the boy mumbled in his sleep, drooling.

"Pikachu…" Pikachu rubbed its eyes, echoing the boy's words.

Just then, the alarm clock on the bedside table went off.

The Pidgey inside the clock popped its head out, only to be grabbed by a pair of merciless hands.

Still half-asleep, the boy gripped the alarm clock and assumed a classic pitcher's stance.

"Go! Poké Ball!"

Thud!

The alarm clock smashed against the wall, shattering into pieces.

The boy jolted awake.

Blinking his sleepy eyes, he looked out the window at the already high sun.

His face fell.

Oh no, I'm late again!

"Ash Ketchum, what are you yelling about? It's the weekend!" Delia pushed the door open, looking slightly annoyed.

Ash Ketchum blinked, sitting cross-legged on the bed and scratching his head sheepishly. "Sorry… I almost forgot it's a day off! Hahaha!"

"Pikachu~~" Pikachu, sitting in Ash's lap, mimicked his gesture, scratching its head awkwardly.

"You!" Delia placed her hands on her hips, scolding him. "Every time something big happens, you get so excited you can't sleep!"

Glancing at the dark circles under Ash's eyes, Delia sighed. "Alright, what's got you so worked up this time?"

"Well… I was hoping to get Red's autograph while I'm back in Pallet Town," Ash said, lying back down on the bed dejectedly. "But I can never seem to catch him!"

"You'll run into him eventually," Delia smiled encouragingly. "After all, isn't your goal to become the strongest Pokémon Master?"

"That's right!!"

Ash sprang to his feet, lifting Pikachu onto his shoulder. He looked out the window and declared boldly, "I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town! My goal is to become the strongest Pokémon Master!!"

"Pikachu!!" Pikachu clenched its tiny fists, its eyes shining with excitement.

Outside the window, a flock of Pidgey flew by, utterly unimpressed.

"Alright, hurry up and get some breakfast," Delia said, covering her mouth with a smile. "If you're quick, you might even get to visit Professor Samuel Oak's grandson today!"

Ash's eyes lit up.

Blue Oak might not be Red, but he was still a well-known Senior.

Even though I haven't met my rival yet…

A duel with two Seniors like this…

Just thinking about it gets me excited!

"I'm getting up right now!" Ash grinned.

Delia turned to leave, and Ash quickly grabbed his still-warm mobile phone from the bedside table.

Part of the reason he couldn't sleep last night was because of Angry Pidove.

The graceful flight paths of the Flying-type Pokémon, the satisfying impact of "Aerial Ace"…

Everything about it was utterly captivating!

"I really want to catch a Flying-type Pokémon, Pikachu," Ash murmured, sitting cross-legged on the bed.

"Pikachu?" Pikachu tugged at Ash's sleeve.

"Oh, you mean Pidgeot?"

A hint of regret flashed in Ash's eyes, and he smiled wryly. "That guy has its own companions to protect… There's nothing I can do about that."

"Pikachu." Pikachu patted Ash's cheek comfortingly.

"Alright!" Ash rallied, his eyes burning with determination.

"I've decided! When I get to Hoenn, I'm definitely catching a Swellow!"

"Pikachu!" Pikachu jumped up excitedly, its body crackling with electricity.

Thunderbolt!!

"Ahhh! Pikachu, stop!!"

Downstairs.

Delia rested her chin on her hand, smiling. "Pikachu and Ash really are close, aren't they?"

"Mr. Mime!" Mr. Mime grinned and gave a thumbs-up.

...

Pallet Town, Oak Research Institute.

Crystal was helping Professor Samuel Oak clean up the messy backyard.

"Thanks for your help, Crystal," Professor Oak scratched his head. "Those kids… they were up all night playing!"

"It's a rare gathering," Crystal smiled. "You seemed to enjoy it too, didn't you?"

Professor Oak crossed his arms and chuckled.

"When you're old, you just want to spend more time with young people and feel their energy!"

"By the way," Professor Oak asked, "where's that troublemaker?"

"You mean Gold, right?" Crystal covered her mouth with a laugh. "That guy heard Natsume-sensei is coming to Johto, so he's been training strategies all night!"

"Natsume-sensei…"

Professor Oak thought for a moment, then nodded. "Ah, I think Professor Rowan mentioned him. He's his assistant, right?"

"Huh?" Crystal blinked. "Isn't Natsume-sensei a Strategy Master?"

Professor Oak was taken aback.

Balancing both training and research…

That's quite similar to Blue Oak.

Just then, Blue Oak passed by the yard, and Professor Oak waved him over.

"Blue Oak! A young Trainer is coming to visit you this afternoon. If he challenges you, go easy on him, alright?"

"A young Trainer?" Blue Oak frowned slightly. "Can I refuse?"

"Hahaha, he's a Trainer from Pallet Town too. Out of his batch, he's the only one who made it to the League Tournament!"

Blue Oak frowned, thinking for a moment. "The one who made it to the top eight in the Johto Conference?"

Professor Oak nodded. "You've heard of him? That's perfect."

Blue Oak nodded. "His name's Ash Ketchum… His battling style is reckless, but he's got a lot of creativity."

He's quite similar to Gold, Blue Oak thought to himself.

"That's right," Professor Oak laughed heartily. "I heard his goal is to defeat Red!"

Blue Oak was slightly surprised.

"That's interesting," Blue Oak smirked. "I'll go meet him."

That young Trainer, Ash Ketchum, was still a rough gem.

From a strategic perspective, a fast, high-attack style would suit him best.

Flying or Fighting… I could recommend those as training directions.

"By the way… I should ask Natsume-sensei for advice."

Blue Oak murmured.

...

Natsume had no idea.

Those beautifully illustrated Flying-type Pokédex entries had planted the seeds of becoming a Flying-type Master in the hearts of countless young Trainers.

In the chat group, Lance also showed interest in the game.

Lance: @Natsume-sensei, why isn't Gyarados in the game? Gyarados is a Flying-type too.

Natsume: "How am I supposed to launch something that big with a slingshot?!"

Wattson: "You could make a sequel! Like replacing the slingshot with a cannon or just throwing Poké Balls!"

Natsume: "Oh, got it. Time to make some DLC!" Natsume thought, jotting down another great idea.

Gold posted a picture of Togekiss.

"My phone's been taken over by Togebo," Gold sighed. "I had to type this on my computer."

"By the way, Natsume-sensei, when are you coming to Johto?"

Natsume: "Once the promotional stuff is done, I'll be there."

Gold grinned.

Even if I can't beat Natsume-sensei in games…

In person, it's a whole different story!

"Partner, let's keep training!" Gold shouted.

Meanwhile, Blue Oak privately messaged Natsume-sensei.

Blue Oak: "Natsume-sensei, could you explain high-speed strategies again?"

Natsume was slightly surprised.

High-speed strategies?

What does that have to do with a sneaky player like me?!

"There's a promising young Trainer in town… he leans toward that style," Blue Oak explained. "Also, simulated battles would make it more intuitive."

Natsume stroked his chin.

I've taken so many breeding notes from Blue Oak without much in return.

High-speed strategies… I do have some.

For Blue Oak to be this interested… this kid must have some serious potential.

"Once I'm done with this busy period," Natsume nodded.

"I'll make time to stream and showcase a high-speed strategy!"
