"I could see everything, clear as day.
The delicate eyebrow pencils on the dressing table, the wing abandoned by some unknown insect beneath them, and… the maid with her hand on the doorknob, anxiety written all over her face.
But that maid was clearly outside the door.
Hewinia froze.
She saw clearly the hesitation in the maid upon hearing her voice, wanting to come in but wary of offending her; even the subtle expressions were unmistakable.
"Miss, are you alright?"
"I… I'm fine, you may go."
Hewinia spoke subconsciously, then immediately realized that her tone didn't match Hewinia's usual manner and that such an explanation would only make the other party more suspicious.
But to her surprise, upon hearing her words, the suspicion in the eyes of the maid outside turned into confusion, yet it was brief, and soon her face became expressionless. She withdrew her hand, bowed respectfully, and after a simple "Yes," she left.
