There was a time, not long ago when facing a single Legendary Pokémon pushed Kai to his absolute limit. He had to rely on tactics, numbers, and sheer luck just to survive.
But that was then.
Now, things were different.
Since the start of his journey, Kai had pushed his Pokémon relentlessly, training, evolving, bonding always preparing for moments like this. Not just to stay undefeated in competition, but to be ready for anything, especially the kind of chaos unfolding in front of him now.
With no one else around and nothing holding him back, it was finally time to reveal his trump card.
Reaching into his pack, he pulled out three Ultra Balls. They trembled faintly in his grip, resonating with the fierce energy contained within them as if the Pokémon inside could already sense the coming storm.
Kai raised his arm and hurled all three into the sky.
"Let's go—Zapdos! Articuno! Moltres!"
In a flash of light, the three Legendary Birds erupted into the sky.
Their cries echoed across the tower as they spread their wings, soaring high into the darkening heavens. With their arrival, the weather changed in an instant winds howled, clouds swirled, and the temperature plummeted. A storm was brewing, and it wasn't a natural one.
Below, Entei and Suicune looked up, their eyes narrowing in caution.
There was no mistaking the presence of kindred power.
These weren't just strong opponents. The Birds exuded an aura of myth and majesty equal to their own. But Entei and Suicune hadn't come to fight. They had been drawn here to investigate… not to become entangled in an all-out battle.
Still, it was too late for that now.
Kai's intentions were clear. These two weren't leaving without a fight.
"Strike now!" he commanded. "Take them down!"
The Three Birds responded as one blazing forward with piercing cries and elemental fury.
Caught off guard, Entei and Suicune split and darted in opposite directions, hoping to escape. But no creature bound to land could ever hope to outrun a predator of the skies.
In seconds, they were forced to stop and face the onslaught.
Back at Kai's side, Gardevoir, Gengar, and a battered Charizard returned to him. He recalled Charizard, letting him rest inside his Poké Ball, then backed away from the battle, guarded by his remaining two.
This wasn't a fight for ordinary Pokémon.
Kai had made up his mind if his Legendary Birds couldn't bring down Entei and Suicune, then he'd accept that fate. He wouldn't send in reinforcements. This wasn't about pride it was a test of might. If he couldn't capture them now, then they weren't meant to be his.
But deep down… he had confidence.
The Legendary Beasts were strong, but so were his Birds, and now they had a worthy fight.
From the moment the clash began, neither side held back. Entei roared, unleashing searing flames. Suicune summoned crashing waves. Zapdos electrified the air with roaring bolts of thunder. Articuno's cry brought freezing winds and shimmering hail. Moltres turned the sky red with firestorms.
The crystal forest around them shattered. The tower trembled under the force of their battle. It wasn't just a Pokémon battle it was a cataclysm.
Lightning struck. Fire burned. Water surged. Snow fell, only to melt again under waves of heat.
It was chaos.
But it was magnificent.
Legendary Pokémon weren't just stronger they were forces of nature. Even their mere presence shaped the environment. Entei's breath dried the air, sparking wildfires.
Suicune's steps soaked the ground, turning stone into mud. Articuno chilled the atmosphere to the edge of a blizzard. Zapdos made the air crackle with static. No move was wasted. No blow pulled.
And still… the fight escalated.
Back inside the Crystal Tower, Ash and the others had no idea what was happening above.
They were still locked in combat with the illusionary Entei when the ground trembled and a loud boom echoed above them.
"What the—!?" Brock looked up, startled. "Where did that come from!?"
The tower's crystalline walls blocked their view of the outside, but the force of the shockwave told them one thing: something enormous was happening.
Misty, more familiar with Kai than the others, didn't hesitate. "What else? Kai's fighting something up there."
Ash narrowed his eyes. "But what kind of Pokémon would—?"
Outside, the battle had reached a critical point.
The skies above the Crystal Tower had turned black. Clouds churned. Thunder rumbled. The pressure in the air changed.
And then—
CRACK!
A deafening bolt of lightning crashed down, striking the very tip of the tower. The crystal spire exploded in a storm of sparks and shards, raining debris in every direction.
And from the wreckage…
Raikou emerged.
The final guardian of Johto had revealed himself, forced out of hiding by the raw energy shaking the skies.
Leaping from the shattered spire, his claws scraped against crystal as he landed on the battlefield with a low, thunderous growl.
Kai watched him appear, calm and certain.
"I knew you were out there," he muttered with a grin. "You couldn't stay hidden forever."
And just like that…
The stage was set.
Three Birds.
Three Beasts.
The legends of Kanto and Johto were locked in a battle the world would never forget.
