Chapter 344: Nico Robin
"What's going on?! Didn't I say to take good care of her? How did things go wrong in just a few minutes?"
Charlotte rushed over the moment he received the news.
Everyone made way for him at the door of the delivery room.
"It seems she went into premature labor due to excessive grief,"
Illyana said, glancing toward the room before turning to Charlotte.
"By the way, why did you bring back a pregnant woman? Don't tell me you have ulterior motives. We all have our eyes on you, you know."
Charlotte rolled his eyes and quickly explained the situation.
After hearing the full story, Illyana reluctantly believed his version of events.
"Nechin already has someone helping her deliver the baby. I believe we'll hear the result soon,"
Illyana added as cries of pain echoed from the delivery room.
Charlotte looked toward the door, visibly anxious. He was genuinely afraid something might go wrong and result in Nico Robin dying before she was even born.
"Waaah! Waaah!"
Before long, the wails of a newborn rang out from the room.
Charlotte let out a sigh of relief.
The women around him found his reaction… odd. It wasn't even his child, so what was he so relieved about?
"Charlotte, you look way too happy. Don't tell me that baby in there is your love child?"
Illyana looked at him suspiciously.
Charlotte's smiling face stiffened.
"That's impossible! Don't say nonsense like that—she just lost her husband!"
he quickly whispered.
Only then did Illyana drop her suspicions.
"Captain! It's a girl! Congratulations, Captain! You've got a baby girl!"
The maid who assisted with the birth, unaware of the real situation, rushed out cradling the baby with a beaming smile.
The air around them instantly froze.
"Don't spout nonsense! That's not my child!"
Charlotte immediately cut her off.
The maid sensed the mood shift and wisely shut up, taking the baby back into the delivery room and placing her in the crib.
On Charlotte's ship, they lacked many things—but baby supplies weren't one of them.
Once the mess in the room had been cleaned up, Charlotte brought his wives in.
Upon seeing the woman lying in the bed, the ladies breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Her complexion was darker—likely from sun exposure—and judging by what they knew of Charlotte's preferences, he didn't like tanned or dark skin. He always preferred fair and smooth.
Charlotte looked at Olvia lying pale on the bed and didn't know what to say.
Thankfully, Illyana was more thoughtful.
"Miss, your child has been safely delivered. She's healthy and perfect. Congratulations!"
Illyana gently brought the baby to Olvia and laid her beside her mother.
The newborn, who had been fussing, immediately quieted down.
"Look at that, she already recognizes her mother!"
Illyana cooed as she played with the child.
As a mother herself, she was very skilled at handling babies.
Olvia looked at her baby girl with glowing motherly love.
"Have you thought of a name for her yet?"
Illyana asked while continuing to entertain the infant.
Olvia immediately recalled her husband's final words:
"Don't let us ruin the child's childhood."
Those words, filled with love, struck her heart deeply.
"Nico… Nico Robin,"
Olvia whispered softly, giving the child her surname.
"Nico Robin? That's a beautiful name. Isn't that right, Robin?"
Illyana said, affectionately gazing at the baby. Her own kids were growing up and becoming less cute, and now she found herself wanting another child.
She sneaked a glance at Charlotte.
But realizing there were too many people around, she quickly waved her hand.
"Alright! Shoo, everyone! Give them space! Don't crowd around! Only a few of us need to stay. Nechin, make some strengthening medicine for our guest to recover properly!"
Following Illyana's lead, Charlotte also left the delivery room. The others followed him out.
The room finally quieted.
Illyana and the women chatted with Olvia, telling her about the Rockefeller Pirates and their journey.
Olvia listened in silence.
—
Half a month passed quickly.
Charlotte stood in the captain's quarters, gazing at Olvia on the deck, lost in thought.
It had been half a month since she came aboard. Thanks to Nechin's care, Olvia recovered quickly—her previous internal injuries were healed, and she was now full of energy.
Her emotional state had also improved significantly, no longer overwhelmed by grief.
"Captain! We've reached Ohara!"
A report pulled Charlotte back to reality.
Looking out, he saw an enormous tree rising from the center of the island.
"That must be the Tree of Knowledge, huh?"
Charlotte blinked to the deck and stood beside Olvia.
Olvia was startled, then quickly responded,
"Yes! That's the Tree of Knowledge of Ohara. It holds all the world's books!"
Her pride was unmistakable.
Charlotte stared at the massive tree, then glanced at the baby in Olvia's arms.
His expression turned complicated.
Olvia didn't notice—she was beaming as she looked toward her home island.
The ship slowly approached Ohara.
And the colossal vessel immediately drew everyone's attention on the docks.
Among them, a few shadowy figures discreetly retreated.
They entered a hidden corner and began making calls.
Charlotte saw it all from afar.
"What a shame,"
he murmured.
He couldn't change anything. Even if he killed every agent on the island, another batch would come.
Ohara's destruction was fate—something Charlotte could neither stop nor reverse.
Even someone like him, wanting to learn the truth, would be hunted by the World Government. What chance did Ohara have?
Without enough power, chasing knowledge beyond one's means only leads to one end: death.
Ohara had dug its own grave.
Yet all this would fall upon one little girl—how tragic.
In his previous life, whenever Charlotte thought of Ohara, he thought of Nico Robin.
So young, yet burdened with endless hate.
A 79-million bounty placed upon a child, hunted endlessly, surviving a world filled with malice.
The ship gently docked.
Charlotte jumped ashore.
To be continued…
