The fourth change of the torches came around, I could cut the tension with one of my claws. Nervousness yet a sense of readiness radiated from each soldier. The way they held their halberd and how polished their armor was a clear indication that they were soon starting the raid.
The raid that would create the chaos needed for me to escape the grasps of my prison, my route to freedom for however long.
As I watched from my cage in a room, one of the doors was open allowing me to watch them, I guess it was mildly entertaining.
They were wearing full steel from head to toe, some of them had these weird feathers on top of their helmets. It looked to me like it could show rank since the feathers were on "veterans" or some people that clearly have been in battles before.
One of the feathers, a bright red one was on the soldier that told the kid, uh, Reshi? what the arch hunters were and suggested that he could train him after the raid, which was the thing I needed to decide.
So you can consider that he helped 2 souls that day.
I could hear the chatter among the soldiers, some were nervous but most were new soldiers worried about their first raid while the veterans expressed a lot of trust in Minvera's plan and some even comforted the nervous ones.
While there were some who just smiled among smaller groups with equally unnerving smiles. But every soldier there was mostly chatting among each other.
Some were sharpening their tools of murder while some shined their armor until it could blind anyone who looked at it at the wrong angle, which happened quite a bit.
Every time I tried to look at my reflection when a soldier came close enough for me to view their armor, a blinding flash always hit me, and it didn't help that no one walked past me enough for me to get a good peer at myself.
They mostly walked around on a ship, which meant that I would have to fly across the ocean to find an island. And judging from the view, the ocean is incredibly huge. But my sight seeing was cut short as the door slammed shut.
The chatter quieted down a bit so I could barely hear it. That left me alone in this room with almost nothing to do or watch.
I could only prepare my plan, and study the movements of the soldiers I saw before. I would be waiting until they marched to the island to begin the raid, then from there I would break the seal on my cage which was becoming smaller by the day due to my growth.
Once I was out of my cage, I would grab a peek at the map on the table so I could figure out where the nearest island that wasn't being raided was.
Then maybe fill myself up with any food I find and water. After that I can only push myself to reach there. It was going to be a journey that truly tested me.
But I can begin prepping now. I stretched my wings to the walls of my cell, then brought them back to my back before pulling them into different directions. After quite some time of doing that, my wings began to flap quietly, only doing the motions.
I kept doing that until my wings began to feel the burn. I reached my talons towards the lock on my cage and slowly and as quietly as I could, one claw grinded against it.
I had to make sure no one could walk into here while I did it or I could be risked being put into a new cell. One shot, one mistake and that's the end, but if I can play this well, I will be free.
High risk, high reward.
My body began to heat up as my heart raced. It felt amazing like my entire body was in sync. When I broke out of my egg, before I hit the ground of course, I felt invincible, just like now.
My jaw arched into what I can only assume to be a smile. My wings vibrated like they were already ready to take flight across the water. My tail, my limbs, and my skin felt like they just been pumped full of energy and were just waiting to fire.
My eyes and ears scouted like it was the first day I saw light. Every inch of the room I was in, the cage that held me suddenly felt so alive. It was like every fiber of myself was ready.
I kept slowly making the lock thinner until I could hopefully break it with a good head smash or two. It would be the best case scenario for me.
-An hour or two later-
After the sounds of soldiers marching and Sezrick's voice shouting orders, and how currently the ship is dead silent except for the occasional what sounds like a giant boom.
I breathed in, my chest expanding as my body wiggled with new found energy. I rushed horn first into my cage door, and with a resounding clank I was falling out of my cage. It felt like a much smaller fall than my previous escape.
It was thanks to my growth, I reckon that I grew almost twice my size, but it is not the time for this.
I looked ahead towards the table then with a flap of my wings, I soon found myself on top of the table that I once was birthed on.
4 days since my first escape and I have already grown so much. The map had these little figures on it and it didn't take long for me to locate the ship that I was on.
And after a bit of additional scouting I found a suitable island that I could fly to.It was north and roughly 50 "miles" away. Whatever miles were.
Bracing myself for what I can only assume will be a journey on its own, I leaped off the table and grabbed the door handle on my way down.
The deck was empty but I wasn't going to risk it, my head turned left and right before I ran my legs to the right.
"I hope this is north." I hype myself up before taking flight. The wind seemed to carry me as I flew.
It caused a great feeling of excitement for me to bloom. This trip was going to be a lovely change from my previous predicaments and I am sure going to welcome it.
