Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

"That makes ten." Bryan said as the titanic wolf finally collapsed from the onslaught of attacks.

After teaming up with Meng, their hunting efficiency had gone up to the point that the average level of their kills had stabilized around Tier 5 elite.

Meng's ice and Bryan's fire were natural enemies to each other but worked excellently against others. The repeated heating and freezing damaged the beasts to the point that they were able to overwhelm those with regenerative capabilities.

Lucy was finally able to focus on drawing aggro and defense so she was able to last longer. All in all, it was quite efficient.

'Now, if only we could find a healer or something similar.' Even among the various kinds of beasts, those with healing abilities were rare due to the fact that they couldn't survive on their own in nature. Most of the owned ones were specially cultivated and trained by humans.

"Meng, do you know any healer preferably one that is taking the test?" He turned around and asked.

"Ha? Why in the world should I acquaint myself with weaklings?" Meng was seriously confused which made Bryan unable to criticize him.

"Forget it." He shook his head. 'I'll work with what I have.' There was only half a day remaining until the exam was over. Bryan thought that they should end it there since they had exhausted themselves quite a bit.

….

"I guess it's time to release it." D looked at O as she said with excitement and let out a sigh and removed the remote. The headmaster had decided to entrust it with him and not O due to their… personalities.

'I hope no one dies. Paperwork is too much stress.' He thought and pressed the big red button on the remote and the field of the exam shook slightly.

'The best thing for any of them to do right now, is run.'

….

"What is that?" Bryan and his team were still far away from it. But it did not stop them from sensing the sheer power that it held.

It was a myth that transcended worlds. Something that stood at the top of the food chain no matter where it was. An exalted, honorable being that reduced legendary nations to mere myths.

A dragon. A true one and not the fake that Bryan had as his beast.

Standing at over sixty meters, it towered over the forest as even the largest tree only reached up to its calf. Just by standing, it placed so much pressure on the surrounding ether that Bryan felt his body creak under its weight.

'We have to run.' At this point, not a single one of the three of them thought about fighting it. Even their tamed beast had the same thoughts as their partners and masters.

All except one. Instead of fear, a completely different emotion appeared in Carl's eyes. It was hunger.

Beast could evolve their bloodlines in various ways. Bryan's ability utilized the very low probability of something happening and combined it exponentially in order to achieve a result. It was a method unique to him. But the general method besides growing stronger was simply… eating.

The higher the bloodline and strength of the meat the beast consumed, the greater the chance for the beast to undergo an evolution. For Carl, the dragon was simply a way for him to awaken his true bloodline.

"Hey, you better not be thinking what I think you're thinking." As his partner, Bryan sensed Carl's thoughts and shot him a look that said 'no'.

"What is it?" Meng noticed Carl's twitching and asked Bryan and the latter shook his head. "Let's just run." He picked up the lizard and the three of them started running at full speed.

"Help! Somebody help me!" just as they were about to leave the vicinity, a voice cried out for help and Bryan pace dropped.

'What do I do? If this exam is being monitored, then there is no way they'd just let someone die. But there is a chance that they might dock points if we abandon them. More importantly, that person's life is in danger.' Bryan opened his mouth to tell the team when he saw that the two of them had already started running back in the direction of the voice.

'…just like I thought. They are good people.' Bryan grinned and chucked the fear and his lizard into the air.

….

'Damn it!' Katherine looked at the tree that had landed on her leg with fear, desperation and anger mixed into a chaotic ball of emotions.

Next to her, trying to desperately lift the tree up was a small chihuahua. Its tiny muscles bulged as it let out a not-so-cute growl and the tree shook as the pressure on her legs eased up a bit.

'It's no use. Blessing's strength isn't enough. I've already exhausted his ether.' Katherine shook her head as the tree that had been rising dropped to the ground again, putting extra strain on her leg.

She groaned softly and looked at Blessing and opened her mouth. "Run away. If I die, find another master. If I don't, then come find me." She could already sense the beast gaining on them. Well, instead of walking, it was just adjusting its footsteps. But it was enough to cause a scene similar to natural disasters.

Blessing looked at Katherine and shook his head. Just like how she was willing to give her life for him, he too was willing to do the same for her. There was only one difference.

'The chance of me dying here is extremely low.' From the way that she had gotten here, one of the invigilators must have a spatial ability. It was only if something unexpected happened that she would die.

'I just pray that isn't the case.' She raised her hand and slapped it into the belly of the chihuahua and sent it flying away.

'This is all my hypothesis. I can't risk his life for that.' She smiled weakly and closed her eyes.

"Are you okay? Can you run?"
