Chapter 88 - Original Daelan POV
There I was, minding my own business, wandering the cold emptiness of my mental plane, when I felt it—an intrusion. A ripple, barely there, but sharp. Like a single drop falling into still water.
Strange.
Curious, I reached for the disturbance. Maybe I'd been cursed again. Wouldn't be the first time. But instead of a trap or attack, I found her.
The goddess.
Walking, searching, for something. Someone.
I watched her for a while from the shadows, silent. Envy gnawed at me like an old wound reopening. She wasn't mine. Not this one. She belonged to him.
But gods—what I wouldn't give to be on the receiving end of that gaze.
She saw me eventually. I stepped out, twirling a strand of her hair between my fingers. Silk. Of course it was.
"I know where he is," I told her, smiling lazily. "But what's in it for me, goddess?"
Her eyes narrowed, wary but not unkind. "What do you want?"
I sighed dramatically, stepping back.
