Chapter 4 - The pain hidden deep inside the smile

Hi, I'm Kim Hana. I'm 29 years old, born in the Republic of Korea. Married with two kids—two little cuties who are twins. And yes, I know you're probably confused about how I fit into Luna's story, but don't worry—it will all make sense soon. With that said, let me get straight to it.

My family wasn't rich or poor—we were a happy middle-class family. But it all came to an end when a greedy woman kidnapped my father and faked his death by making people believe he had committed suicide. Ever since that day, my family was broken. My mother died of stress just a few weeks after my father's burial, and I was left with only my oppa, Youngho (my hero).

Youngho started taking part-time jobs immediately after starting varsity because the little inheritance our parents left us was running out. Seeing him work so hard every day, I made myself a promise: I would study hard and provide him with a better life. And I kept that promise.

After completing high school, I left the country to study abroad after receiving a scholarship from one of the most prestigious universities in England.

After completing my bachelor's in pharmacy, I decided to study cardiology and become the best in the field. During my second year, a very dangerous virus broke out—one of the deadliest the world had ever seen. It reduced the global population by 20%. But lucky for me, I loved studying viruses, especially those unknown to the world. It turned out this virus was of the same genus.

It took me six months, with the help of my best buddy Lee Minseok—the most brilliant hacker I have ever known. Before he died, he helped me become someone powerful. He made me the richest woman in the world. Yes, you heard me right—I became the richest woman in the world because of my knowledge and his skills. He was the craziest and smartest person I ever met.

With him by my side, we negotiated with the top 20 countries to give me the five largest lands, ten hospitals, twenty large empty buildings, and ten billion dollars in exchange for the cure. They agreed—but they were hesitant because they thought I might be planning something, since I asked for less than they expected.

After an hour of negotiation, I finally convinced them. That's how I became an international diplomat—and how YM Pharmaceuticals and Hospitals came to be.

Long after, Minseok died of late-stage lung cancer. It was a shock to me because he was always happy and smiling. But I learned the happiest face can hide the deepest sadness, and sometimes the saddest face is the one that smiles the most.

I became a broken glass with a lost course. Before I could even share my pain with the only person I had left, I got into an accident that caused me to lose all my memories. But that didn't stop me from completing my degree. Memories are petals of life—and I was a flower without petals, a body without a soul.

One day, while scrolling through the news, I came across a story about a man named Kim Changho—a famous designer hiding his real identity—who had been kidnapped by a money-thirsty woman who faked his death and enslaved him for years.

I was okay until I saw his pictures. I froze, and tears started flowing from my eyes. I didn't understand why, but there was a pain in my chest I couldn't explain. It felt like my heart was being pierced by something, and then everything went black—as if the light was switched off.

Wait, did I really die of a heart attack? I wondered as I looked around.

But this means I'll be seeing Minseok again, I thought, and smiled—only to be interrupted by a flashback.

"And don't think about taking your life and joining me, because if you do, oh! So help me Lord, I'll bring hell to every afterlife you choose."

Those were Minseok's last words.

Damn it! That crazy asshole will surely do it, I thought before everything went black again.
