Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Chaos Heart

"You think this will work?"

"Maybe."

Selina and Wren were bickering.

In Wren's hand were ten ascended soul shards, each brimming with energy and brilliance. Wren sighed and then using his hand, he crushed them all at the same time.

Wren closed his eyes, feeling the ecstasy of his heart being fully saturated.

[You have gained 4 void fragments.]

Wren opened his eyes slightly, but then...

[Your darkness is rampaging....]

His eyes suddenly opened with shock.

"Aghhh..." Wren groaned.

An unimaginable amount of pain was flowing throughout his body.

It was as if thousands of needles were pinned deep in his body, in his heart and burning metallic rods were struck in his brain.

Clutching his heart, trying to subside it's pain.

He looked towards Selina, her expression was blank.

She was lost somewhere.

'T-the fuck? Ugh.. this pain is so...so-'

-thud!

At the same time both of them fell to the ground.

[Your darkness has become more chaotic...]

The sound of the spell sounded more menacing for some reason.

Wren passed out from pain, but he will recover soon.

Same can't be said for Selina though...

She was lost in somewhere.

***

Darkness and Nothingness.

Selina was surrounded by it.

Words didn't escape from her mouth, as she didn't possessed one.

'Where...am...I?'

Her thoughts sounded broken and hazy.

In a place filled with nothingness, she drifted alone.

'I think I am in spiritual form.'

She was right, her body didn't possessed any shape, it was only her soul that seemed to exist in this plane.

'Nothingness...this place is the Void perhaps.'

Wanting to explore more of the region, Selina willed her form to move forward.

'Am I even moving?'

She couldn't tell, there was nothing in the void for her to compare and find out.

But there was nothing she could do, except moving or willing to move forward, not that she know what was happening with her.

If only there was a thing or a even a source of light, she could perhaps tell it.

But in the everlasting void, only darkness was there to welcome her.

Or she thought, as suddenly... the void seemed to become chaotic.

Then she saw it, ripping the very fabric of nothingness, a gate appeared.

It was not very far away from her.

'What the hell is that?'

The gate...no...it was a portal.

Then...

Something or someone stepped out of it.

-crack!

Before Selina could clearly see it, the nothingness around her crumbled.

"Wakey Wakey." A voice echoed.

Selina eyes opened.

She could feel her head slightly elevated from ground.

'Is my head resting on something smooth.' She thought.

Her gaze analyzed her surroundings, before her gaze settled on someone above her head.

Looking down at her, was Wren.

His expression looked normal.

'Wait Wren...head elevated...smooth.'

Her thoughts were correct, her head was indeed lying on his lap.

Noticing her expression, Wren smirked.

"Smooth enough?" He asked teasingly.

Selina jerked her head up, and sit a few steps away from him.

"Keeping the jokes aside, are you good?" Wren asked.

Selina sighed.

"I am not." She replied.

Wren nodded slightly.

"I was quite surprised when I saw you both unconscious on the ground, what happened actually?"

Sunny who was hidden in shadows, walked out.

His voice was that of concern.

"My soul core was saturated, since it is a special one, it caused me to faint from exhaustion. As for Selina, we don't know the reason."

Wren replied with a calm voice.

But Sunny was a master of deception and lies, he knew Wren was hiding something but chose not dwell further.

'Yeah...I am not interested...not at all.' Sunny thought.

Wren walked over to Sunny, and put his arm around him.

"Let's have a talk outside." He said.

Sunny looked at Selina slightly, noticing her expression.

She looked a little stressed.

Without saying anything, both of them left.

Selina who was left behind, sighed.

Her expression returned to normal, it was not very hard to change her expression to deceive Sunny.

She dismissed the cloak, and unbuttoned the top two button of her shirt.

It felt refreshing.

For some reason Selina was feeling a little suffocated.

Maybe it was due to her recent experience, or just the atmosphere.

Not that she knew.

"So what do we have here..." She muttered as she opened her runes.

Selina eyes widened.

"This...what the hell?" She muttered.

Under her violet eyes, the runes displayed.

Name: Selina.

True Name: Apostle of the Abyss King.

Rank: Dreamer.

Chaos Heart: Dormant.

Chaos Fragments: [0/5000].

'Isn't this too much?' She thought.

Void fragments were very hard to obtain, and now that their soul core or the void heart has saturated and turn into chaos heart, saturating it would be more difficult.

It would be even difficult than the process of obtaining shadow fragments.

'Maybe it has some perks.'

Selina wanted to test her theory, but it wasn't possible right now.

She needed to be an Awakened.

Though she was still satisfied, it was a good thing that the evolution of their heart didn't took place during the battle.

'That idiot should thank me... now that I remember they went out fifteen minutes ago.'

Indeed the two of them were out for a very long time.

The two of them were in a heated argument.

***

Walking with his arm around Sunny, they exited the ruined cathedral.

-whistle!

Wren let out a low whistle.

He enjoyed the brilliant dusk, or maybe he was enjoying the darkness slowly enveloping the Forgotten Shore.

Sunny was beside him, and from his expression it seemed he didn't liked the current environment around them.

No one would like it after all, that very darkness brought abominations with it.

"So what you wanted to talk about?" Sunny asked.

Wren tilted his head towards his direction.

"Nothing, just wanted to enjoy this... scenery."

At his response, Sunny's face contorted.

"Nothing?" He asked in a frustrated tone.

Wren nodded.

Feeling his frustration reach its peak, Sunny turned around to leave.

'I guess I need to be serious.'

Wren mentally sighed.

"Sunless." His voice was deep and calm.

Sunny halted his steps.

He turned around, to him it seemed that Wren was now serious.

"You were right. We have something we need to talk about." Wren said.

Sunny had his guesses of what Wren wanted to talk about.

"It's about Nephis, right?" He asked.

Wren stared at him, his grey eyes were serious.

He sighed.

"Yes. You are correct. I need you...to kill Nephis." Wren finally said it.

It wasn't hard for him to say these words, it was just that he couldn't bring himself to say these words in front of Sunny.

"What?" Sunny was confused.

"You... are joking right?" He asked with smile.

But Wren didn't replied.

Sunny's smile faltered.

"Right?" He asked again, even if he knew that Wren was seriously asking him to kill Nephis, he didn't wanted to believe it.

"No, I am not kidding Sunny, I want you to kill her." Wren replied plainly.

Sunny caught Wren by his collar, anger was visible on his face.

"Why you damn bastard? What has happened to you? You want me to kill our friend? Give me a reason." Sunny roared.

Wren used his hands to remove Sunny's own.

"I just don't want you to suffer." Wren replied.

Listening to his vague answer, Sunny anger was about burst out.

"I don't want to hear this bullshit...tell me or else I will kill you." He said with his killing intent.

At his words, Wren eyes' turned colder.

"You want to know why huh...okay I will tell you."

Sunny waited patiently.

"Tell me how can you believe someone who holds the leash of your life?"

At his words, Sunny's world crumbled.

"W-what?" He stuttered.

Wren smirked.

"You heard me right! Nephis knows your true name." He replied.

Sunny couldn't process things very well.

Wren didn't wait for him.

"It was Cassie, she somehow find out your true name, something even I don't know. As your friend I want you to stay free, remember what I told you during your first lesson? It was to doubt everyone, doubt this world, the people around you, your comrades, or the people who you call friend, doubt me too."

Sunny was silent.

Wren put a hand on his shoulder, and leave his final words.

"I will be going by now, doubt everything Sunny, doubt the Gods, doubt your Fate. These are my final words, I hope you save your freedom."

With that, Wren walked away.

Leaving behind a Sunny, whose emotions were going in a rampage inside of him.

Wren who was walking away from Sunny, had a...

Very creepy smile on his face.

'Got you.' He thought wickedly.

Wren was delighted with the commotion he had created.
