"Rooaaar!!!"
A pillar of white-hot flame engulfed the Ursaring head-on. In an instant, no matter how tough its body was, a searing pain pierced deep into its nerves, causing it to let out a howling scream of agony.
Heatwaves surged in all directions as the Arcanine's white fire pillar—unleashed from its maw—quickly vanished once its energy was exhausted. The white flames surging around its body also rapidly died down.
Such an explosive use of firepower instantly triggered the side effects of Overheat, weakening the fiery aura around Arcanine significantly.
Meanwhile, the Ursaring standing at the cave's entrance now looked like someone out of a disaster zone. Its fur was completely charred, its skin was heavily burned, and a pungent smell of roasted meat wafted from its body.
Even so, despite taking a full-force Overheat from Arcanine head-on, this Ursaring didn't fall. Instead, the pain only seemed to enrage it further. Its bloodshot eyes burned with madness as it struggled to its feet and charged recklessly at Arcanine.
Perhaps it was due to its Guts ability being triggered by the burn, combined with its unleashed rage, but Ursaring's aura didn't weaken—instead, it surged wildly. Its speed became shockingly fast, almost unbelievable.
This wasn't the behavior of a heavily wounded patient—it was the charge of a berserk, furious bear-dragon.
A terrifying pressure exploded from Ursaring's body, so overwhelming that creatures within a hundred-meter radius collapsed to the ground, trembling. Even those who resisted felt as if a boulder had crushed their chest, making it hard to breathe.
"Guerrilla tactics. Don't engage head-on."
Seeing that the Ursaring hadn't gone down and had even become more powerful, Sato's eyes lit up sharply. He wisely refrained from ordering Arcanine to engage in close combat and chose the most rational strategy instead.
At the same time, he released his Ariados and commanded it to carry him up the nearest tall tree.
Ursaring's base Attack stat was a staggering 130—already incredibly high. Now, with the Guts ability triggered by its burn, its attack power received a further 50% boost.
(Note: Guts – When affected by Burn, Paralysis, Poison, or Sleep, Attack increases by 50% and the burn's attack halving is ignored.)
There was no sugarcoating it: Ursaring's offensive capability was now explosive. Even a pseudo-legendary Dragon-type wouldn't come out unscathed from a direct clash.
As Sato's current only main force Pokémon, Arcanine was too valuable to risk in a physical brawl against this rampaging Ursaring—unless Sato had lost his mind, there was no way he'd allow that.
Even though the rampaging Ursaring had become abnormally fast, itwas still sluggish compared to Arcanine, who had mastered Extreme Speed.
Obeying Sato's commands completely, Arcanine immediately darted away, widening the distance, and then began kiting Ursaring with blasts of Flamethrower.
"Raaaargh!!"
Unable to land a hit, and constantly pelted by Arcanine's flames, Ursaring roared in frustration, swinging its claws wildly at everything in sight.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of deafening crashes echoed out.
The terrain around the cave entrance was soon completely destroyed by the frenzied Ursaring. Boulders and trees alike were shattered into debris by its massive paws.
But this state of berserk fury couldn't last forever. Its injuries were grave, and repeated exposure to Arcanine's fire attacks only worsened them.
After about half an hour, with a final cry of anguish, Ursaring—scorched black and bleeding all over—finally collapsed from exhaustion into a massive pit it had created itself.
"What a savagely resilient beast... Even with such severe injuries, he still managed to rampage for nearly half an hour. I underestimated you. Go, PokeBall."
Seeing that Ursaring had finally fallen, Sato quickly rode Ariados down from the tree, approached the pit's edge, pulled out a black PokeBall from his belt, and tossed it at the fainted bear.
Sato had originally thought this level 44 Ursaring was simply decent, but the fact that it'd survived Arcanine's Overheat and still held out for nearly half an hour proved it was extraordinarily powerful.
Moreover, its willpower was terrifyingly tenacious. Without that kind of iron will, there was no way it could have fought like that while so gravely wounded and burned.
With all that in mind, Sato resolved to capture it—even if this Pokémon wouldn't be battle-ready for a while and might become a burden, he had no regrets.

With a satisfying thunk, the PokeBall clicked shut. The red light in its center dimmed after a few shakes—the capture was successful.
No sooner had he caught the Ursaring than Sato released it again. He pulled out several burn ointments and two large rolls of medical bandages, and immediately began treatment.
Ursaring's injuries were extremely severe—not just general trauma, but full-body burns. Without immediate care, it likely wouldn't survive the night.
It took about twenty minutes. With sweat dripping from his forehead, and the help of Arcanine and Ariados, Sato finally finished treating Ursaring using five bottles of burn medicine and two full rolls of bandages.
"Whew… It's done. If only Bellossom were here—this wouldn't have been half as messy or exhausting."
Looking at the bandage-wrapped Ursaring lying like a big rice dumpling, Sato wiped his brow and couldn't help but lament how important Bellossom, the team's medic, was to the squad.
Ursaring's body was indeed sturdy. Once given timely treatment, its life signs gradually stabilized. After Sato poured a few potions into it, its vitality slowly began to recover.
Seeing that the bear was starting to pull through, Sato returned it to the PokeBall and then led Arcanine toward the cave Ursaring had lived in.
This was a cave inhabited by a lone Ursaring, and naturally, its environment was abysmal.
Rotting, half-eaten berries littered the floor, alongside piles of decomposing bones and both dried and fresh dung. The stench—a sickening blend of rotten fruit, decay, feces, and urine—was overpowering.
Sato and Arcanine couldn't last more than a few seconds inside before they both retreated, gagging.
It was hard to imagine how Ursaring had managed to live in such a filthy place and still look so… content.
"Arcanine, use your flames to purify all this filth."
As soon as they stumbled out of the cave, Sato shouted to the retching Arcanine at his side.
Without hesitation, Arcanine forced down its nausea and unleashed a white pillar of fire straight into the cave.
In an instant, the cave turned into a blazing inferno. Everything foul inside was consumed by the flames—reduced to ashes.
