I was going insane.
The moment I realized she had vanished right under my noselost. Yes, I was furious with her. Yes, she betrayed me. But damn it… she escaped. She ran from me.
No one had ever done that before and lived to talk about it.
It wasn't just betrayal anymore. It was the fact that she left while I still cared.
I didn't chain her up out of hatred. I did it because I couldn't stand the idea of her walking away. I wanted her to stay. With me.
My jaw clenched, teeth grinding as I paced the room like a caged beast. The air felt suffocating, thick with rage. I grabbed my pistol and fired into the air, the sound exploding through the hall like a war cry.
My useless men flinched but didn't dare speak. I turned slowly to face them, my glare sharp enough to cut bone.
"You let her out," I growled. "You let her go."
They dropped to their knees instantly, trembling like damn leaves in a storm.
