Chapter 44 - Paying a Visit

After a while of commuting and drawing attention with her peculiar appearance, standing right before the front entrance to the Mandjet Medical Center's main hospital was the founder's daughter.

Callisto Mandjet.

The instant she arrived and her gaze glued at the building, memories of her in a bedridden state crossed her mind.

This was one of the instances that made Callisto frown at her ability to remember things very well.

She wanted to forget about it, but it doesn't seem like she had that choice to begin with.

Callisto's only choice was to fill her mind with something else along with those bitter memories.

Her goal.

"Now then..."

After taking a deep breath to compose herself, Callisto stepped forward.

Just like outside, her appearance immediately caught the eyes of the people present within the big reception area.

From what she could tell, it was all out of fascination. She could see it especially from the little ones.

"Mama, look!" The girl jumping excitedly whilst holding her mother's hand. "She has ears on top of her head! Is that real?"

Callisto watched the mother chuckle at her little daughter's excitement, her gaze lingering at the two a little bit longer than necessary.

She turned away from the two, heading straight for the reception desk right in front of her.

"Excuse me," Callisto called, immediately drawing the attention of the two workers present in the reception.

The two workers looked at the young lady and they were immediately taken aback by Callisto's appearance.

"Y-Yes," the female receptionist stuttered. "How may I help you?"

Callisto smiled at the lady. "I want to see—"

"Callisto?"

Callisto's words was cut off by hearing her name spoken from behind her. She looked back and found herself face to face with a familiar individual.

"Oh, Uncle Phillip!"

The female receptionist and her coworker greeted the doctor respectfully.

"Good afternoon, Doctor Phillip."

"Good afternoon Doctor Phillip."

Phillip responded to the greeting with a polite smile before turning his attention to the silver-haired lady.

"What brings you here, Calli," asked Phillip, a glint of concern in his eyes. "Did something happen? Are you unwell?"

Callisto smiled fondly despite the obvious concern Phillip was showing.

Throughout the years she had known Phillip, being a worrywart was one of the things that reminded Callisto about him.

"I'm all right," she answered the doctor. "I'm doing well. Look."

Callisto jumped around, showing Phillip how healthy she was and that there was no need to worry about her.

But underneath that energetic facade she was exhibiting, Callisto was hoping that Phillip would not catch on the fact that she had a secret she would not want anyone to know right now, especially Phillip and Raymond.

"Okay," Phillip said, his eyes following the young lady, worried that she might trip and fall. "I see you're doing well. You can stop now."

Callisto stopped at Phillip's command, facing him.

"So, what brings you here," Phillip asked one more time.

Callisto schooled her expression into a neutral one. "I'm looking to talk to Papa about something."

The way the young lady worded her response got Phillip raising a curious eyebrow. "Something?"

"Something about the EPT I'm taking soon," she lied, but Phillip had no way of knowing that.

Phillip gave the girl an understanding nod. "I see. The EPT, huh."

Knowing how he was, Callisto felt her lie was necessary. Otherwise, he might prove to be a hurdle in achieving the goal of her visit.

Not only that, he might also start asking her questions until she could no longer hide the truth about her golden eyes.

"So, where is Papa right now, Uncle Phillip? Is he busy?"

Phillip's gesture drew the young lady's attention above them. "He should be in his office right now. And I don't think he's busy. Should I take you to him?"

Callisto shook her head and hands at the doctor. "It's fine. I know where it is and I don't want to trouble you anymore, Uncle."

The doctor gave the silver-haired girl a pat on the shoulder, appreciating her thoughtfulness. "Well, I am busy thanks to your papa. See you later, Calli."

"Yes. Bye-bye!"

Callisto's gaze was glued on the doctor until he turned into a corner, a sigh of relief escaped the young lady's lips afterwards.

Callisto went on her own way towards the elevators. She came just in time to find one elevator with no people inside and immediately went in, pressed the floor to where Raymond's office was and the doors closed shut.

Being isolated in the elevator allowed Callisto to keep her nerves in check for what she was about to do, or rather, ask of her father once she arrived in his office.

. . .

Inside Raymond's office in the Mandjet Medical Center's main hospital, Raymond was simply sorting out documents he received just now when his phone rang from inside his pocket.

"It's me, Boss,"

It was the guy Raymond assigned to keep an eye on Callisto.

"How is it? Where is Callisto going," asked Raymond, continuing his sorting of documents.

"I just saw her enter the MMC main hospital's front entrance," said the guy in response to the father.

"What? She's here?"

"Yes. She's most likely on the way to you right as we speak."

"I see. Thanks."

"No problem, Boss."

Raymond paused his sorting of documents as he ended the call, his mind already formulating reasons behind his daughter's unannounced visit.

Could it be that Callisto is missing her father?

Raymond certainly would love to spend some quality time with his daughter. After all, it has been a while since they last talked to each other in person.

However, there could also be another reason for her visit.

Maybe Callisto realized something wrong with her, a bad effect caused by the operation just sprang out of nowhere.

Raymond hoped that his thoughts do not become a reality.

Knock, knock, knock!

The father's gaze snapped towards the door. "Come in."

At his command, the door was pushed open from the outside and in came Callisto with a bright smile

"Papa!"
