One older female staff with a somewhat authoritative demeanor spoke to Lu Ruisheng, slightly hesitant, "We are from the base investigation unit. Someone has reported Base Chief Lu for favoritism. We require your presence at the base for an investigation."
After finishing speaking, she added, "Don't worry too much, it's just formal questioning to confirm there are no issues, then you can return. We have to follow this protocol."
Lu Ruisheng looked at Gu Pan, "Let's go," as he wasn't worried because he had nothing to hide, and since they were being polite, cooperating with them wouldn't be a big deal.
Gu Pan felt the same; the base owed them quite a bit for their contributions, and they had not violated any laws. She nodded, "Alright."
