Both of them carried helmets, raincoats, and protective clothing, and asked Chen Shaonan and Duan Shumei to analyze them based on their knowledge of physics and chemistry, to see how they could make these items both more aesthetically pleasing and safer.
Chen Shaonan and Duan Shumei examined the items and ultimately concluded that the helmets already provided excellent head protection and that theirs were the best military grade. In Chen Lang's words, even in a game, these would be considered Level 3 Head, so there was basically no possibility of further upgrades.
As for aesthetics, apart from hand-painting them, there wasn't much that could be done to beautify them—they couldn't be made smaller. How could such a large object look good?
