Lin Nianhe first nodded towards Uncle Guan and then lowered her head to speak to Zheng Shan, "Shanshan, why don't you and your little brother watch the chicks for a while? I'll have a few words with Uncle Guan and be right back, okay?"
Zheng Shan silently withdrew her hand from Lin Nianhe's palm and moved a step toward Bai Xiaojun.
Lin Nianhe gently rubbed her head, sighing silently in her heart.
She said, "Shanshan, I'll be right back."
Zheng Shan turned to look at her, and after a moment, she lightly nodded.
This slight reaction left Lin Nianhe somewhat dazed. She tried to maintain her composure, pretending it was normal whether or not Zheng Shan responded to her.
Lin Nianhe followed Uncle Guan out of the cattle shed and after walking a few meters, Uncle Guan stopped in his tracks.
He extended his clenched right hand, opened it, and in the palm lay a crumpled banknote.
"I found this under my pillow last night," said Uncle Guan, "Shanshan's mother must have left it there."
