Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

Michael's POV,

We were heading to the Omega's room. We knocked on the door to alert the omega.

"Can we come in?" Alex asked. He has a hand on my waist, and he hasn't left it since he sat beside me on the bench, and for some reason, I am glad he didn't. I hate depending on others because it makes me feel weak, but for some reason, I am trying to lean on him. I want to, but it's hard. It's hard to depend on anyone for anything after everything I have seen and been through, but I am trying, for him and I hope he knows that.

The omega opened the door with a worry etched on his face. He moved aside to let us come in, and we walked in.

"Is there any problem?"

"No, we just wanted to talk to you. Please sit," Michael said in a gentle voice, knowing that the omega might have been through the same things I did, and he didn't want the omega to be triggered in any way.

"Okay," the omega said hesitantly and sat on the bed while Alex and I stood a little far away from him, as if not to intimate him.

"We are here just to talk with you, nothing more. Please relax," Alex said. The omega nodded, but I could see that he still had his guards on.

I went and sat beside him, I didn't touch, but I was not sitting far away either, I was still in touching distance.

"What is it that you want to talk to me about?" he said, looking back and forth between me and Alex.

"Let's start with your name. What's your name?" I said, as gently as I could. My work was only saving the omegas, not talking to them. We had other people who did that, other people who talked to the omegas we rescued. I never did that, and I have no idea how to do that.

"My name is Cole," he said in a small voice but loud enough for me to hear in this silent room.

"Okay, Cole. Can you tell us how you ran away from the council?"

"Someone helped me run away," he whispered, once again.

"Who?" I asked.

Alex is just standing there with his hands crossed and letting me do the talking, like I am good at it. I want to drag him here and make him talk to the omega because he's good with words, but I know that I can't show any sudden moments, especially aggressive moments, in front of Cole.

"My mom... She let me out." I nodded. "Do you think she means wrong?"

"I have no idea, Cole, but we have to let the council know that you're here. What if they are finding you?"

As if my words triggered something in him because he immediately gripped my hand tightly, and from the corner of my eye, I saw Alex uncross his hands and was almost ready to attack Cole if he tried to hurt me. I like it. My mate is willing to hurt anyone who tries to hurt me, but at the same time, this makes me not want to tell him about my past, because I know he won't back down, and it's useless because I killed the head alpha.

I kept my hand on Cole's.

"Is everything okay? What happened? Did the council do something to you?"

"Mom said that if I come back to the council, then they will give me to the future alpha of my pack, and I don't want that," I frowned. I frowned hard.

"Cole, they would never do that. They captured them because of the heinous acts the pack did towards me. The council would never give you back those people."

"Re-really?"

"I am sure. How about this? You stay here until you feel safe, okay? But we will have to contact the council. There are a lot of wolves your age, omegas, betas, and alpha, maybe you can play and talk to them, okay?" he nodded hesitantly. "And if you feel unsafe or anything, then you can tell me, or Alex." I pointed at Alex. Cole looked at Alex and then immediately at me, and nodded with a look in his eyes that I knew all too well.

I got up from the bed and looked at Cole. "If you need me, then my room is down the hall. Alex and I share a room, so if you come looking for me and see him opening the door, don't be surprised, okay?" he nodded at my words.

I gently tucked him to bed. "You should sleep, now, if you feel hungry, then let me know, okay? Me or anyone here, okay?" he nodded at me, and then Alex and I left.

"Do you think he will be okay?" I whispered to Alex when he wrapped his arm around my waist again, the moment we stepped out of the room.

"I don't know, but we should inform the council about him," he whispered back and pecked my head. I nodded, but then I saw Sebastian nearby.

"Sebastian, why are you still here? Shouldn't you be home by now?"

"Um.... bye!" and he ran away.

Alex and I gave each other a weird look but went to our room because we are dead tired, right now to question his weirdness.
