Chapter 80 - Ch 79 - Garp's Shock

The sun rose over Foosha Village, casting golden hues over the quiet town.

But today was no ordinary morning—because today, Garp had arrived.

His laughter boomed as he stepped off his ship, sending shivers down the spines of the villagers. They had long since learned to fear his presence, for every time he arrived, he would either wreck something or drag Luffy off to endure brutal training.

"LUFFY! WHERE'S MY GRANDSON?!"

Makino, ever the kind-hearted bartender, greeted him with a polite smile. "He's in the forest, training."

Garp's grin widened. "Hoh? Still working hard, eh? Good, good! This time, I'll finally make that brat into a Marine!"

He stomped through the village, heading straight for the secret treehouse in the forest.

Luffy was casually lounging against the tree, chewing on a piece of meat when Garp arrived. Ann and Uta sat nearby, idly chatting, while Kuina was sharpening her sword.

Garp stood before Luffy, arms crossed, his massive frame casting a long shadow over his grandson. His usual boisterous grin was replaced by a serious, expectant look.

"Alright, Luffy! Pack your things, we're headin' to Marineford! Time to make you a fine, upstanding Marine, just like your old grandpa!"

Ann and Uta sighed. "Here we go again..."

Kuina smirked. "This should be interesting."

Luffy, seated lazily on a tree stump, yawned and stretched. "Hmm? Sure, I'll go."

Garp blinked.

Ann and Uta, who had been watching nearby, turned their heads in unison and smiled at each other. Even Kuina, normally composed, raised an eyebrow.

Garp's face lit up like a fireworks festival.

"Wahahahaha! FINALLY! My grandson has seen the light! I KNEW you had the blood of a Marine running through your veins! We'll make an Admiral outta you in no time! Just you wait, Sengoku's gonna—"

Luffy raised a hand. "Hold on, old man. I've got conditions."

Garp's booming laughter came to a grinding halt.

"…Conditions?" His eyes narrowed. "What do you mean, conditions?"

Luffy smirked, standing up and cracking his knuckles. "Simple. I'm not gonna be your kind of Marine—I'll be my kind of Marine."

Luffy folded his arms. "First off—I'm only staying in the Marines as long as I feel like it. If I find it too annoying or boring, I'm out. No one's stopping me."

Garp's eye twitched. "YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST JOIN AND LEAVE AS YOU PLEASE?!"

Luffy tilted his head. "Yeah."

"THAT'S NOT HOW THE MARINES WORK, YOU BRAT!" Garp bellowed, veins popping on his forehead. "It's a lifetime commitment! Once you're in, you're in for good!"

Luffy shrugged. "Not me. I get bored easily. If things get too stiff, I'll just leave."

Garp clenched his fists. "What kinda nonsense is that?! You can't just QUIT the Marines!"

Luffy smirked. "You left."

Garp's fist stopped midair.

"W-WHAT?!"

"You left, didn't you?" Luffy grinned. "You were in line to be an Admiral, but you refused. They offered you more power, but you didn't want it. So you stayed a Vice Admiral instead."

Garp opened his mouth, then shut it.

Ann giggled. "Ooooh, gotcha there, old man~"

Uta snickered. "Checkmate, Garp."

Kuina smirked. "This is getting good."

Garp ground his teeth together. "That's DIFFERENT! I stayed in the Marines—I didn't leave!"

Luffy shrugged. "If I don't like it, I'm leaving. That's my first condition."

Garp growled. "Fine! What else, huh? What other ridiculous condition do you have?!"

Luffy grinned. "I won't follow orders I don't like."

"…Hah?"

"I hate people tellin' me what to do," Luffy said, rolling his shoulders. "If an order makes sense, I'll do it. But if it's stupid, I'm ignoring it."

Garp's mouth practically foamed. "THAT'S NOT HOW THE CHAIN OF COMMAND WORKS, YOU IDIOT! YOU FOLLOW ORDERS BECAUSE THEY'RE ORDERS!"

Luffy grinned wider. "You don't."

Garp stopped.

Again.

Ann and Uta gasped dramatically.

Kuina whistled. "He's really playing with fire."

Garp's face twitched. "What do you mean, I don't?"

Luffy smirked. "You ignored Grandpa Sengoku's orders whenever you like, don't you?"

Garp's fist shook. "…That was different."

Luffy grinned. "Nah. You just ignored orders you didn't like."

Garp clenched his jaw. "THAT'S—!"

"So, I'll do the same." Luffy yawned. "If an order's good, I'll follow it. If it's dumb, I won't."

Garp took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

"Alright. What's next, brat?"

Luffy grinned. "I won't give up my freedom."

Garp scoffed. "Marines have discipline, not freedom."

"Then I won't be a Marine," Luffy replied simply.

Garp's fists creaked.

"I'll take whatever mission I want," Luffy continued. "Do things my way. The Marines don't need to take responsibility for what I do—I'll do whatever I want."

Garp's veins popped. "LUFFY. YOU CAN'T JUST—"

"Didn't you do the same thing?" Luffy interrupted.

Garp froze for the third time.

Ann and Uta gasped again, enjoying every second of this.

Luffy grinned. "You never listened to the higher-ups. You did things your way. You only followed orders when you felt like it. So why can't I?"

Garp's fist trembled. "I'M GONNA PUNCH YOU INTO THE GROUND, YOU BRAT—"

Luffy just laughed.

Garp inhaled deeply. "Alright. Fine. What's your next ridiculous condition?"

Luffy's expression turned serious.

"Justice is justice. No exceptions."

Garp raised an eyebrow. "What?"

Luffy's gaze was sharp. "If someone commits a crime—even if it's YOU, Grandpa—I'll beat them up and throw them into Impel Down."

Silence.

Garp's eye twitched. "You'd throw ME in Impel Down?!"

Luffy nodded. "If you did something bad, yeah."

Ann, Uta, and Kuina all took a step back.

Garp's aura flared. "AND IF SOMEONE TRIES TO STOP YOU?!"

Luffy shrugged. "I'll treat them as an accomplice and kill them on the spot."

The air grew deathly quiet.

Ann and Uta froze.

Kuina stiffened.

Garp's entire face twitched. "You're kidding."

Luffy's eyes were dead serious. "Nope."

Garp's jaw nearly hit the ground. His dream had just turned into a nightmare.

"You brat... You—YOU CALL THAT BEING A MARINE?!"

Luffy grinned. "Yeah. Sounds fair, doesn't it?"

"HELL NO!!"

Garp grabbed his head, nearly pulling his hair out. What kind of Marine says they'll ignore orders?! What kind of Marine says they'll quit whenever they feel like it?! And what kind of Marine talks about throwing a Vice Admiral into Impel Down?!

Garp was about to argue, but then he paused.

No matter how much he tried, Luffy wouldn't budge. His will was unshakable.

"Tch... Fine!" Garp finally spat, rubbing his temples. "Let's get to Marineford first. Once you're in training, I'll straighten you out!"

Ann, Uta, and Kuina stared at Luffy, bewildered.

Ann leaned in. "Luffy, are you actually gonna be a Marine?"

Luffy chuckled. "Nah. I'll mess around for a bit, then leave when I get bored."

Kuina smirked. "You're gonna make their lives hell, aren't you?"

He grinned. "Of course."

Uta sighed dramatically. "The Marines have no idea what's coming, do they?"

Luffy just laughed.

But as Garp dragged Luffy onto the Marine ship, Kuina took a deep breath and stepped forward. "I'm coming too."

Ann and Uta blinked in surprise. "Huh?"

"Ann, your dad's Gol D. Roger. Uta, yours is Shanks. The Marines would never let you in," Kuina said firmly. "But me? I can join. And I want to be with my captain."

Luffy smirked, nodding approvingly. "Good. I need someone to keep me entertained."

Ann pouted. "Tch. And here I thought I'd get a front-row seat to Marine chaos."

Uta crossed her arms. "Don't think you can just run off and forget about us, Luffy."

Luffy ruffled their hair with a grin. "Relax. I'll visit when I feel like it. No need to miss me too much."

As the Marine ship set sail, Garp stood with his arms crossed, feeling triumphant. "With training and discipline, I'll make Luffy into a true Marine!"

But what he didn't realize was that it wouldn't be Luffy who changed.

It would be the Marines.

Because soon—

Monkey D. Luffy was about to turn Marineford upside down.
