Chapter 229 - Counterintelligence Measures

Even when I wanted to talk to Layla, the presence of spies was a serious nuisance.

Just the fact that I had contact with her—someone tied to Middle Eastern royalty—was likely valuable intel for any spy.

Lately, the spies seemed to be tightening surveillance. Air and Cloche had been on edge, so it was safe to assume we were being watched constantly.

"Where would be the best place to meet Layla? Bringing her here might attract too much attention."

"That's true. Just her moving around is already eye-catching. Why not invite her to our café? We don't have to worry about bugs there."

"We could shake our tail first and then head to the shop."

"Yes. That area doesn't have much foot traffic, and obvious surveillance would draw suspicion. Since it's our own café, they can't exactly pose as customers either. And if they come in without thinking, we might even be able to identify them."

"Right. We've been scanning for bugs every time ever since you told me."
