Chapter 6 - The Beginning Of The End

Alex was still just beginning to understand this world, on top of him being immortal, and the fact that he appeared about 10 years younger in this world. He checked his status, and it was:

"A polymath, huh. I see."

Alex, then, began to move out of his Dimensional Portal, which is what he decided to call the space which he had been teleported into by the judge which modified into a blank, white surface.

What he saw before him was completely new to him. It was... so clean. Nature was left unharmed, the water trickling down as the birds flew overhead.

The smell of rain emitted intoxicated Alex, due to the reason that he lived in a highly populous area, where sceneries such as this were difficult to find.

The morning dew looked as refreshing as ever, as that it might act as a coffee to start your day off with. Insects fluttered all over the place, with gracious, elegant, and intricate movements.

"Wow. I'm gonna plan out a blueprint for my house. If that exists in this world, that is." Alex was instantly won over by such a human-less world.

He began wandering around, with seemingly no idea of where, what, and why.

As soon as the sun fell, he saw a city in the distance.

"Ugh. I was hoping for a village, or something like that." Alex continued, "Though it's not like I can live in a world that isn't intellectually advanced in one way or another. Imagine living in a world with no toilet paper. Ew."

Alex said, "Well, there's nobody to even talk to. I shouldn't care in the slightest bit. I might get mentally disturbed if this goes on."

Although he had been walking for a while now, the city didn't seem to get any closer. "Eerie." Alex felt strange.

"Gosh, my legs are gonna hurt from all the walking." He was tired at this point. Imagine how bad he must feel to walk even more.

Just then when that thought hit him, he saw a small hut from his peripheral vision. "That's camp for today."

He didn't know who resided there. He hoped to meet an old man who was generous enough to let him stay there. But what he found instead was a big, burly, manly man.

"Hey, dude. Can I, um, stay here for tonight?"

Alex asked. He was asked back, "Big tiddies or a big butt?" Apparently his name was 'Aoi Todo', meaning scarlet rosemallow east hall. Whatever that meant.

Alex shut the door in response. He decided to stay out for his first night, a terrible mistake, indeed.

For the first few seconds, he felt like he was being watched. He thought of going back to that weirdo's house. But he wouldn't steep that low, so no.

He was also in constant deep thought about how he got here, and the fact that he retained the memories of the previous host of this body.

He had the same name as Alex's, and the same last surname. They both had the same parents and lineage, in comparison to their looks, structure and name.

However, the only thing that differentiated this Alex to the previous one, was that he had an abusive childhood.

Alex thought, "What if different timelines do exist? What if all of this is just a web, sometimes (though rarely) there being strands of string overlapping each other?"

He thought of a theory that existed on the previous world he was in.

The timeline of the world took into effect as a strand of string. And there was God. God was referred to as a spider.

The spider casually moved around, creating strands of string, constantly overlapping each other.

Imagine one strand of string was the world we live in. It extended indefinitely, only stopping when the world came to an abrupt termination.

We, the people living inside this path, can only travel across this string as long as we are alive. And imagine, one step costs us 50 years of our lifespan.

Another thing, us and the web have a size ratio of, for ratiolisation1:1000. Conceptualise it. Sometimes, the string overlaps with another one, causing eerie errors, that us humans call "glitches in the matrix".

The action that was supposed to take place in that timespan, took place in ours. Sometimes, they fit in. Other times, we get creeped out by those actions, as they should be impossible as of moment.

And in some extremely rare scenarios, we laugh and smile, as they are "miracles" or "unexpected goofy moments" to us. Imagine a higher being, carelessly straying off this strand, into another one.

But humans cannot. Why? We don't know where a string overlaps. Sometimes, we might get extremely lucky and get transported into another dimension or timeline.

Other times, humans fall into the abyss. Void. Devoid of emotions, animals, people, places, plants, colours, light. They float around for eternity, hoping they interrupt a strand and escape this suffering.

This is all a theory, keep in mind.

SCREECH

Alex heard a screeching sound, and that was enough to force him into run. As fast as he could. He sensed immediate danger.

He sprinted to the nearest tree he could think of, and climbed it. Thankfully, he had joined Boy Scouts in his previous life. So that meant he knew how and what to do in survival situations similar to this.

A few minutes later, there was a rattling noise inside the bushes. Oblivious to it, since he was getting drowsy and all of his senses were weakened.

He dozed off.

A few hours later, he woke up, seemingly after hearing a loud thumping noise. Looking down, he saw green.

His vision was obscured by green. A few seconds after he saw green, the adrenaline inside him finally gave up.

He had just fallen out of a 40 ft tree, but he had only climbed 20 ft, latching onto the branches. The tree was quite sturdy.

Instantly, he felt pain. If he did this stunt in his previous world, there was no doubt that he would have, at the least, suffered concussion.

Not hurting much, however, due to his refined body after ascension, he sat upright. Then, after taking a few moments to recollect what had previously happened, he took a large stride.

A stride big enough to cover a hippo's back, he fell. "What the happened to my legs?" he thought.

Apparently, he had forgotten how to walk. Ridiculous. How could he have forgotten one of the first few things he had learnt?

Alex didn't panic. Instead, he wiggled his legs to see if there was feeling. There was.

Then, he wiggled even more. It felt odd, very much indeed. After clenching his feet, he was grossed out for some reason.

Then he stared long and hard at his feet. His feet were shorter than usual. Then he realised, "OHHHHH, I have a different body. This makes sense. How come in the novels protagonists just ignore their new body and begin to level up? So, this isn't all butterflies. Got it."

"System,"

{Yes.}

"Can you stop with all the logistics? It's hard to remember. So what I'm basically saying is, summarise the stats window or do something that doesn't need me to say 'system' everytime?"

{Got it. Updating..}

"Much better. Thanks."

{All the information will now be sent directly to your brain. To prevent headaches or worse, the neurons inside your brain have been upgraded to the max.}

...

Alex didn't feel anything.

Thinking whatever of it, he started to exercise to get a better feel of his body. His hands felt refined, his feet were smaller and much more suited for cushion. All the extra fat in his body was now mere information in the system, being replaced to stats as extra energy.

The sun was now directly above Alex's hair.
