A few loose stones tumbled over the edge of the cliff as a boot came to a stop near the precipice.
Lawrence had been the first to arrive at this very spot. From where he stood, he could see a mansion far below, nestled deep within the valley's shadows. It stood eerily still in the pale moonlight.
Moments later, Maverick arrived with Willie, Abigail, and Russell trailing close behind. Maverick and Willie dismounted without a word and approached Lawrence, while Abigail and Russell remained on horseback.
Lawrence arched a brow, tilting his head toward the mansion below.
"That mansion," he muttered.
Maverick and Willie followed his gaze. Neither spoke. They simply nodded in quiet agreement.
Lawrence crossed his arms. "So, what's the plan? We observe, or go swinging?"
Willie didn't answer immediately. He gave Lawrence a sidelong glance, then stepped to the cliff's edge, peering down into the blackness.
